Just wanted to congratulate you on passing your boards - that is a huge accomplishment! I’ve been following your channel since my senior year of residency and you really inspired me to give it my all this past year when studying for my specialty boards. I found out this week that I passed, and I couldn’t have done it without you! Also, I love seeing you so happy with your bf and I couldn’t think of anyone more deserving! 🥰

Great questions and answers. As an MD who is out of academics and has been in private practice and now working for the state that I live in, the stigma is greatest in academics and by the public than private practice physicians (in my experience). I have worked with both and as long as someone goes to a good residency and tries to learn their field, it is all the same in the end. As you said, the residencies are often merged. It might be an issue for someone who wants a prestigious academic career but otherwise we are all the same in the end. Believe me, there are plenty of people who are MD or even MD/PhDs who are terrible clinicians. So what choice you make about schools is less relevant if you learn a lot in school and residency. Patients will go more by referrals than what degree it is. You are almost halfway through internship! Congratulations on your hard work!

Hi Dr. Rachel, how did you develop your confidence despite others trying to push you down? I'm working on it, but in the past I believed that if many people were treating me like an idiot, then I must be. I would make mistakes due to anxiety and feel like it only proved their point. I would love to hear about how you grew such strong resilience, is it inherent to your personality? If not, was there a moment that flipped the switch for you? I am also SO very happy for you, it is easy to see the literal joy and contentment radiating from you when you talk about your new boyfriend, and personal life. You deserve all the best!!!

Top notch Rachel as always. Thanks for the personal video shares. My health care team is my DO and my nurse practitioner. Doesn’t get any better than that. I’m 65 and take no prescribed meds. My team has kept me in good health. So proud that u chose the DO path. Addressing the body as a whole and looking for a solution as opposed to just throwing a pill at it is the smart way to go. March on Miss Ant…🐜🐜🐜 we r right behind u.

Hey hey, COMP OMS1 here. Staying hopeful that as current students hit the physician workforce in coming years, the DO stigma will continue to lessen. You had a great summary about the stat difference thing. We have the same average MCAT and GPA at UCR SOM right next door. For me, I picked the school because I didn't want to move away from my partner of over a decade and COMP was warm and welcoming in all my experiences (looking at you T Fox!). People pick programs for plenty of different reasons. Licensing exams and extracurricular activities should be the standards to judge by, not the letters of the degree (to my knowledge no DMD v DDS stigma exists). It definitely is kind of funny to me that the people who seem to be most judgmental about MD v DO tend to be premeds. I just say... the past and current president had/have DO physicians & NASA's CMO is a DO. That should tell anyone everything they need to know. (Also, thanks for your study videos, a bunch of us used them to get our feet on the ground at the start of the year.) Hope residency is going well! :]

What you said about DO about if you would have wanted to go to MD school, you would have, I am a PA and agree on my side. If I would have wanted to be a physician I would have went to med school. I love the PA profession when I learned about it in 2020. And I’m so happy with my decision. It’s not a fall back option for us who didn’t have grades to get into med school because a lot of us could have, it’s just a different choice we made. ❤️ love watching your videos. Also, I love DOs! I honestly feel they know more than MDs as well because they have to learn osteopathic medicine as well. I wish the stigma for that was not a thing anymore. I absolutely loved the DO who was my SP.

Speaking of the stigma DO’s face, last week on The View Sunny Hostin said that DO’s weren’t the same as MD’s. They were talking about Trump and the report his DO released on his health. She made it sound like because the doctor was not an MD, that we shouldn’t put too much stock in what the report said. I’m still confused about the difference between the two. I’ve never been to a DO so I don’t know what the differences in the type of care you would receive. What does your boyfriend do for a living.

I will go to a DO instead of an MD given the option. In my experience, DOs will treat the whole person where many MDs will treat specific symptoms. One example from my experience. I went to a Rheumatologist who was an MD. To her, I was treated more as a collection of symptoms and she only treated the joint symptoms. When I switched to a Rheumatologist who was a DO, his first concern was my quality of life. He changed my medication to control more of my possible autoimmune symptoms rather than only focus on finger and toe joints. I can say enough good things about him and have recommended him to others because he is a DO!
