Art teacher question…I just switched from high school to elementary and the difference is staggering when it comes to “extras” that I’m asked to do. I have only 2 planning periods a week but I am expected to do third period remediation so now it’s 0… and morning car duty (every other week bus too pm). I thought I was hired to teach art. Can I say no to the remediation? I’m quite upset. When can I plan my classes? I have 6 a day????

I’m so sorry you are going through this. Are you teaching at a public school? Definitely respectfully explain what you would do with the planning time. You can try to avoid the remediation and perhaps just do duty once a day. Are there no rules where you teach about planning time requirements?

@@Managingthemess I’m going to look into this today. The music teacher, who has worked there for years, dropped my schedule off and left. She teaches the same thing every year so I guess that she doesn’t mind the extra work. I’m starting out so I need the planning time, especially if I want to enjoy my weekends. Our media teacher is now working two positions because they are short a technology position, so I know she will be in my shoes. I was shocked when I saw my schedule. To me it’s over reach. I was hired to teach art.
