Brownells Gun Tech™ Caleb Savant shows us how to install an Elftmann ELF Pro-Lock AR-15 trigger. These triggers are available as self-contained drop-in trigger modules or as component triggers, both with a twist. Instead of traditional pins, they are retained by screws that thread into the sealed hammer and trigger bearings. The "Factory Method" of installation employs a flat washer AND a split washer under the screw head on the outside of the receiver. This is a bit bulkier than Caleb likes, so he foregoes the split washer and retains the screw by applying a little blue Loctite® thread-locker. He also puts some blue Loctite® on the screws on the underside of the trigger module before he drops it into the lower. Then he snugs up all the screws for a very secure, tight installation that actually stiffens up the entire lower receiver. Drop the hammer to the half-cock position (yes, Elftmann AR-15 triggers have one!) and install the safety selector, its detent, and the pistol grip. Then function check the trigger and safety. The result is a super-smooth trigger with a "glass rod crisp" break and a super-short reset. Feeling triggered to install an Elftmann ELF Pro-Lock trigger in your AR-15? We hope so!

Thank you for the install video! Elf's was terrible and left me trying to figure out why I couldn't just use Loctite instead of the washers. I was about to return the trigger because it didn't fit on 3 of the 4 AR's I own, and only fit the cheap one that doesn't deserve it, but youtube auto played this video and saved the return!

Every actual test I've seen indicates that those split washers actually cause screws to back out faster, and you are better off with a thread locker. Those were vibration tests, not shock tests, so perhaps not directly relevant to usage in firearms. Whether or not shock and vibration are significantly different, I'm still guessing your way is the better way.
@claponclapoff6

Always check your weapons that you keep in your car. Depending how it is stored things can vibrate loose like the screws on your ear pieces of your sunglasses you forgot in your glove box and reach for one day and the earpiece fell off.

I have a couple of the Elftman SE triggers. They feel like they are running a reduced power hammer spring. I haven't had a light strike with it yet, but it does have me concerned about the SE model. Does this model Elftman use a full strength hammer spring?
@CalebSavant
@CalebSavant 3 жыл бұрын
If that is a concern, check out the Elftmann Service trigger, that series uses an extra power hammer spring.

I'm pretty sure I have never tried an Elfman trigger before so I can't really say they are good or bad. I've heard good things about them though. That being said my favorite AR trigger to date is the Geissele Hi-Speed National Match trigger. I have one in all three of my AR-15's and one in my 6.5 Creedmoor LFAR.

@one night check the replies man. They already answered that question. I got a HERA stock for my AR because I'm in NY and I'm limited on my "stock options", but with the HERA, you got a pic rail down there for that mono pod. Still I might pass on it because I don't have a bi-pod up front and if I keep adding accessories to my AR it's gonna way a ton, which is no fun for a "battle rifle." Still I was curious as to what it was just in case.

Not sure about the screw mounting, a little bulky looking. I think the reason for pins is in the event of a field situation, you could always use a round or stick and a rock to take out the trigger, no special tools required.

Screws, washers and loctite for a trigger installation? IDTS. 🧨
@j.p.1576
@j.p.1576 3 жыл бұрын
The factory method does not need Loctite? Incredibly wrong. Split washers hasten unlocking in vibrational application, so it is essential that a thread adhesive/lubricant is used.
@thestonethatthebuilderrefu5231
@thestonethatthebuilderrefu5231 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah considering split washers don't work probably anytime you see split washers you want to come up with some kind a system for holding the fastener in place that will actually work you know because split washers work. Makes point kind of wonder why they still make split washers
