He seriously needs new pyrotechnic people. I’m getting tired of the arching showers of sparks. It looks so phony. Like they just set off a pack of Roman candles.

Luke John Boylan Real explosions are neither sparky fireworks or petrol bombs. They are (grenades, bombs, artillery, ricochets) usually puffs of smoke, shrapnel and dirt being thrown into the air. The sparky bullshit was most ridiculous in 13 Hours, where Bay was trying to depict an actual event, but all the silly pyrotechnics kept taking me out of it.

A good example of realistic bullet hits in a film is the bank heist escape scene in Heat. Bullets just tear through vehicles and make holes. Bay (not only him, a lot of filmmakers) show all these huge sparks flying everywhere. Obviously, an action movie is all about the explosions and visuals. So, you can expect some visually appealing destruction. There’s gotta be a happy medium though. Bay just goes so over-the-top that it becomes absurd. Some people like that, though, I guess, and that’s fine. I dunno, it’s fun to talk about Bay’s stuff sometimes. He has so many weird quirks that people either love or hate.

That also happens in a lot alof fincher movies and nolan movies. There are even a lot of cuts in mad max fury road. Fast cutting is not necessarily a bad thing, only when it becomes incomprehensible.

In fury road the camera cuts on average every 3.7 seconds

The worst part of the editing for me was when it kept switching between high quality film camera footage and what looked like GoPro footage during the parkour parts and a couple of other scenes

Somewhere in the first few minutes of the chase scene, the 'bad guys' catch up, so the driver slams on the accelerator and the camera cuts to showing us the car going like 35 mph (+ some more bad editing within the next couple seconds). I was so confused that I actually yelped? Screamed? and closed the movie and started laughing to myself like a crazy person thinking about how better baby driver was. Edit: typo

It’s not for little kids at all considering that it’s R and Michael bay usually gives us funny charachters to laugh with the slo mo is useful also the humor is usually funny and the soundtrack is amazing you moron!

All he does is juggle too many things and repeatedly make the same old updates for his audiences to cling on to in the hopes for something quality and it's been sadly lacking. Daniel Silva It wasn’t subtle at all in the original. The difference is that almost no one who considers themself a fan of the series was alive during the events of the movie (comic). They only have seen it through the lens of media and pop culture, therefore don’t have strong feelings about those events one way or the other. The way we look at our culture today and the divide it causes was just as pronounced during the Vietnam war. In fact you could argue it was if crazier back then because people couldn’t hide behind a computer. They were in the streets popping off. So yeah. Agree, Watchmen has always been political and it’s never shied away from the ugliness we face.

Alan Moore personally disliked Rorschach's political views but he still made him one of the best characters in the whole series. Alan Moore had some pretty damning critique's of the Reagan administration but he still knew characters and story came first. the New Watchmen is the opposite of that philosophy and that's the problem. The agenda seeps through everything to the point it's soaked.
