Thanks for the review, Doc Ashens. I'm an American and I remember this device well. In the US, this wasn't sold at your major game retailers (Like EBs or Babbages) or Toy stores (Like TRU and Kay-Bee). The Supervision were either sold through mail order or if you live near a big city a discount goods store (Slightly more upscale than your 99 cent stores.). In 1999, A store near my house sold the unit for about $45 with the games being $10 each. I only saw two. Super Brick and some racing game.

I never thought I would see one of those again. Here in the United States, I found mine as a child in a Gibson's grocery store. It came packaged with CRYSTBALL and I also had a tank title with an overhead view, that was actually quite fun as a kid. Looking back I remember turning the contrast very low in order to see the screen well at all. Thank you for the memories Ashens

When I was a small child I pleaded for a Gameboy for Christmas. I was so excited on Christmas morning, I can still remember it now, running down the stairs to the tree and tearing open that colourful paper.. and then the horror was revealed. A *Supervision* was inside. Seriously, this thing ruined my childhood. Turns out the sketchy guy at the local Toy Store (obviously trying to get rid of these abominations) had told my parents "it's the exact same thing, except cheaper!". It was incredibly difficult to ever find games for the thing, and any games I managed to find were absolutely awful. All my friends had Gameboys and all the cool games, and I was stuck with this horrible thing. :( I feel like this terrible machine was the seed from which my pitiful downward spiral of life grew.

+Fallon Hunt Hey, that ain't so bad! At least you didn't get a Philips CD-i or something lol. There were plenty of good games on the PS2. ICO and Shadow of Colossus!! And omg Resident Evil 4!!

+Fallon Hunt geez, in my opinion the ps2 was a mile ahead of the xbox, more games were produced for the ps2, and the ps2 had better graphic capabilities
@torgo_8 жыл бұрын
+Cameron Kenny I couldn't agree more. I think the Playstation has always been ahead. I'm mostly a PC gamer but I own a PS3 and a PS4 because they both have incredible games. Playstation has Demons' Souls, Symphony of the Night, Bloodborne, ICO, Shadow of Colossus, the list goes on. Most of the Xbox games are either crap or available on other platforms.

My first exposure to the (Watara) Supervision, and what I'll always remember of it, was that it and a few games were offered (and won) on the first aired show of our short-lived "New Price is Right" with Doug Davidson.

I actually downloaded a Supervision emulator and pretty much every game released. Some really aren't bad at all, while some were so awful I wanted to cry. There aren't many game genres aside from action games and puzzle games. There are no action adventure, RPGs, strategy games of any style, etc. I would recommend at least checking them out. Some are pretty fun!

1:48 Actually, the Super Gameboy was released in 1994. But instead of being a standalone hand-held thing, it was a cartridge that you'd plug into your SNES and then plug the Gameboy cartridge into the top, like one of those weird Russian dolls but made out of cartridges. It was actually pretty good - the games would really be in four colors (you can adjust palettes if you want), have adjustable borders (no fullscreen, apparently) and some games (such as the Pokemon series) were even optimized for it, making use of the palette swap function in a more sophisticated manner. Google it if you want, it's actually a quite interesting piece of hardware. The Gaming Historian also made an episode about it, go watch that if you want to learn more.

MCD456 To play supervision games, you need a supervision and the games physically. This is when I would actually buy the games, because there's a limited number of them, and they will only increase in price providing people care about this system. Either way, the games are slowly rotting.

I actually have a copy of the Bike game that you reviewed as a Game Boy version (it came on a 50-in-1 type of thing, but it is still the full game). It is actually quite fun, and gets so tough toward the later levels that you will start smashing the cartridge over the head. All the fun, none of the bluriness. It is actually quite awesome. I can send you the cartridge if you want and you can play it properly, in all of its non-blurry glory.

The TV-Link was produced, but not sold in Europe. The Thing is as big as the Supervision. You mus put the Supervision in the Box and Plug an Special Modul with Cable into the Supervision. In the Box you insert the Game you want to Play. Like the SuperGameboy, on TV the B/W was convertet to 4 Colors. Its an Really Rare Item to find.

HA! The memories... I not only had one of these in my childhood, but all three of those games. AND THEY WERE RUBBISH. It didn't even come with an A/C adapter; my father had to reverse engineer one out of a transformer from another household appliance and, courtesy of his abysmal craftsmanship, sparks flew regularly. As for Cross High, it once took me three afternoons of solid concentration to get to the fifth level. I will never speak of it again.
