Princess Diana is old money and she wore Gucci, Versace, Chanel, Louis Vuitton clothes and bags with logos. It´s a lie that old money don´t wear logos. They wear logos especially in bags, some shoes and some clothes, depending if the logo is of good taste or not!!!!

The thing I don’t like about Quiet Luxury is the “if you know, you know” snobbism of recognizing ultra-luxury brands. I want the quality without the elitism and it can be found at many Premium High Street brands, there’s no need for the most expensive brands. I’m also not giving up my non-neutral, but basic colors like blues and greens, or classic patterns like dots, checks, tartans, stripes and some well-designed florals. I would get bored wearing an all-taupe or black outfit all the time.

In a way, I think you are practing quiet luxury. I'm typing this as I listen, so I'm not sure what she's saying yet, but I think for many it's about not being robbed or targeted so not wearing logos but still looking beautiful. The idea of "if you konw you know" is because they don't care if you know or not. But if you do know, it's something to have a conversation about. Anyway, that souunds like what you're doing, looking beautiful without caring about logos.

I liked this style before it was called this way. After 2 years I got bored of the boring colours and was missing any creativity in my outfits. Now I love to play with colors, textures and accessories. Everyone can wear whatever they want 🙏 but try to make it your own. Don’t follow this trend so that people will think “oh she must be rich!”. There is an old saying "that the old becomes new again". Quiet luxury is what was called "understated elegance" - well tailored, classic design, high quality fabric, neutral colors and subtlety make up this look. It's more about style and inner confidence of the wearer.

YES. Fashion-wearing is a mix of wear for yourself and wear for others. When you wear only for others - I need to look a certain way for others to think I’m… then perhaps reevaluate

It's an interesting discussion. To me "Quiet Luxury" is an artificial name. I love classic style and I don't think that has anything to do with money or class. Good pieces (like your middle choices) can speak of classic style that has been around for decades without the "Quiet Luxury" moniker. If people can afford expensive brands, have at it. But if you like classic, timeless style, you can do it on a smaller budget. As you say, wear what you like. And I would prefer the bag...not because of the name, but because I think it is a classic design. Thank you for this thoughtful video!

Cost is only part of it. It’s people who buy fakes, or who don’t care for clothes and accessory well, or who buy such poor quality that the seams and stitching are obviously poor. But even Chanel has reduced quality a lot to meeting huge demand. It’s incredibly disappointing.

I like the “quiet luxury,” “old $$,” “minimalist” look. I especially like the John and Jackie Kennedy style. Years ago when my budget was very small, my work wardrobe consisted of five neutral colored, interchangeable pants and blouses. That was of necessity. But I have always preferred the quiet (somewhat understated) sophisticated look. People encouraged to me add a little boldness, so occasionally I dawn a splash of color-red, yellow or orange blouse. It seems to work as I get a lot of compliments. While I do not like being in the spotlight, I do enjoy the compliments.

Excellent video 👏👏👏 I have stopping watching many KZfaq influencers as I find their luxury hauls unrealistic and excessive. Buying certain luxury brands did not make me feel better about myself.

It is best to chose content that one can relate to. I do not watch luxury videos to compare my life: I know that it takes so much more than I am willing to do to earn such money. Buying things one cannot afford to play richer for strangers never appealed to me. I always loved quality, since my childhood (my aunt was a model, married someone rich but cruel so I've seen the dark side of money early on) so I wanted to make sure that I do not pay bigger price than I can for things, in money or my own peace.

I think a lot more people can afford good quality than they care to admit. Unfortunately, for many, the weekend spree is more important than investing in quality parts. You don't need to buy a cashmere pullover from Loro Piana for 3,000 euros, but many can afford a no-name cashmere pullover for 100 euros. I myself like to buy silk, wool, cashmere, leather - but from small brands whose quality is very good. We should appreciate things that last for decades and are passed down through generations more than the short dopamine rush at H&M and Primark.

It's not racist to think logo mania is tacky. Ridiculous thing to say. Just because a black person helped instigate something, doesn't make that thing beyond reproach or critique, sociological or aesthetic. My goodness.
@stylesnippets
@stylesnippets 8 ай бұрын
Thanks so much for watching. Agree it does not make the thing beyond criticism. The video explores the various perceptions held about the type of person who does or doesn't wear the trend, and that unfortunately includes a biased view for some around a style that is predominately associated with black culture - which is where these 'undertones' come into play. This doesn't apply to the people who don't think that, but some certainly do.

I’m a 65 year old male, so probably not your core audience but, as a photographer, I`ve always had an eye for fashion and visual design trends. I had a style/colour consultation as a business perk many years ago. As a “Romantic / Classic” style-type, the ‘less is more’, focus on quality materials and fabrics approach was recommended to me, and I’ve always followed it since.

Quiet luxury does not equal the very rich. Good taste is what determines quiet luxury. And I would add that it is nothing new but now everybody jumps on the bandwagon as if they had discovered something new. Yes, it does cost a certain amount but in Europe where still many do not subscribe to junk fashion (fast?) many with taste, discernment and a little money could put together a curated wardrobe of quality and style without having the bank account of the 1%.

@@stylesnippets thanks for the reply. Enjoyed your video. If you agree with me on the following you might try to set things straight once and for all. Many, many are clueless on the hallmarks of quality and don’t recognize it unless it has a price tag on it. The so-called status symbol bags (that’s what they really represent to these people) bear no relationship in actual physical value as it relates to price. (There is a guy on KZfaq who takes apart the bags, evaluates material, craftsmanship and estimate,ayes how much the bag should cost. That is not the true cost either because he doesn’t know wages and benefits either but it should be clear to everyone that most of the price goes to cost of goods sold. The locations, gorgeous stores, PR, personnel costs - not including salespeople from what I hear - design cost, and all the other, less popular items carried, as well as profits. Your videos are more thoughtful and perhaps you can explain this to all who clearly lack an understanding . Thanks!

I think quite luxury was around for a long time and had many fans. It has blown up on social media lately as a counter reaction to the recent logo mania and flex culture. Same happened many tims before in fashion. Even the modern bauhaus in architecture and the famous "less is more" were counter movement to the decorative Art Nuevo and Art deco. Fashion and trends are going in circles and influenced by the economy, social changes, ect. I don't think it's accurate to present it as simply a consequence of racism.

I’ve always dressed quietly, I remember saying this in another YT comment about a year ago before the Quiet Luxury Trend got going. Quiet, simple and restrained style meant good taste in my youth, avoiding a lot of statement, trendy things like extreme cuts, embellishments, tie dye or logos, and choosing more classic, timeless styles instead. I also love “luxury” fabrics and materials, or at least high-quality, natural ones. So, the idea of Quiet Luxury seemed right up my alley when I first heard the term. It’s also increasingly linked with minimalism, which I’ve never been into. The extreme poverty of most of my life made me crave variety and abundance. Unfortunately, Quiet Luxury seems to have so much socio-political baggage attached to it, like elitism, snobbism and even racism. But, it’s just an approach to building a quality, lasting wardrobe, not a political statement!

Your video is a really comprehensive overview of how money and status obsessed thinking contrives thought process. I think your tone in this video is awesome and the part about social economic profiling/ racism is very poignant. I am Part Latina adopted into a poor middle class family who came from a very rich family background and I have seen the way old money behaves. I have straddled both worlds and come out of it knowing the most generous people are poor and that racism is not exclusive to rich or poor people but that signalling via clothing is literally the gateway to being chosen as possibly accepted in any caste sytem.But that NONE of that will pass you unless you are married, birthed, or employed, educated or mannered into the upper echelons of old money. Let us remember how old money was made. Generally from oppressive and exploitative endeavours and this itself leaves its imprints. Wear what makes you happy and that doesnt create a false persona ...

The best video I’ve watched on Quiet Luxury! Thank you! 😊 As for the style, I still like quiet luxury and have done so even before it became known as quiet luxury. I really enjoy the color combinations and the „timelessness“ it exudes. I like subtle logos and I like buying quality over quantity. Buying better quality that lasts longer, also means it must be timeless. At least for me, otherwise I’m not willing to commit to the higher price point. I also enjoy pulling out my quality pieces time and time again, knowing that they have served for many years and will last many years to come. But everyone should wear what they want. I do enjoy some streetstyle looks too and love to occasionally wear a popular sneaker with more trendy clothing! ☺️

Quiet luxury has been around for centuries since the French Revolution in the end of 18th century. Since the pandemic, wars and recession worldwide, quiet luxury is making a comeback, also, overuse of huge logos made fashionistas look elsewhere.

People should just wear what they want. If you like color wear it if you like more muted clothes or softer colors or monochromatic looks then that's your thing. Express yourself. Plus this has nothing to do with money this is just classic styling which doesn't have to break the bank. Classics never go out of style. But everyone is different so who cares

Thank you for an excellent and clearly explained video! I myself see "quiet luxury" as simply another option to choose from. I would never be able to go "Steve Jobs" and wear the same thing every day because I need variety and color in my life. I am all about mixing and matching as only going QL seems boring and even depressing for me, with all these beiges, greys and dark tones. In life, as in nature, there should be many shades of color so just as with anything, I believe it is all a matter of balance. I have bought some LV pieces, not in order to show off, but because I genuinely love the classic monogram, but not so much the "hip" spin-offs of it, that try to attract Gen Z's. Recently though, after the insane price increases among luxury brands, I try to opt for mid-range brands that offer quality for a normal price, but in as many colors as possible...;)

Very well executed video! I appreciate the time and effort you placed into presenting this information and all without bias. Definitley keep putting videos out, you kept a great pace. Personally I love the quiet luxury look, as it exudes elegance and simplicity, though some people do take it too far as someone always does such as self proclaimed minimalists who claim that only a certain number of items is acceptable.

I like quiet luxury because it is simple and sophisticated, and clean. It also shows a bit of modesty and signals that you are a grownup. When it comes to labels, I believe less is more. Don’t wear an entire outfit made up of locals. You should wear the outfit and not let the outfit wear you. It does not have to be YSL or Gucci. It can be an Adidas t-shirt with Nike shoes and Lululemon leggings and belt bag. It seems the standard uniform for rich suburbanite young girls, teenagers, college coeds, and grown women is are Nike shoes, complete with a Lululemon bag and athletic wear.🙄 My last thought, is if I can’t buy a YSL or Alexander McQueen I will buy Michael Kors or Madewell. I want quality but at a price point I can afford.

I'm not into monogram items, however, on young people I like it sometimes. Re "if you know, you know" - it all depends where you are. In a small town or country area, no one cares about designers and no one will recognize. Most of my friends have never even heard of many labels I follow, they are just not interested. I am very well informed as it's my passion but that's only a personal thing.

imo this 'quiet luxury' craze is 100% a response to the flex culture of the hypebeast era, logomania and streetwear's dominance over fashion trends during the 2010's. The pendulum has well and truly swung. What's interesting is that the type of flex culture that came out of the hypebeast era, as well as streetwear, all derived from Hip-Hop culture [I'm envisioning rappers covered in logos, flexing gaudy jewellery and loud designer brands while spectators try to emulate their lifestyle]. There's been a lot of talk over the past 12 months about Hip-Hop's declining sales and it's chokehold on popular culture loosening, it seems the same is playing out in fashion too. Enter 'Quiet Luxury' and 'Old Money Aesthetics' to serve as the antidote to nouveau-riche entertainers and influencers, and spectators seem to be flocking to imitate them now instead.

I cannot stand the showingness of logo luxury products. Maybe because I know “those” people who use these products to pretend they have money or new money that flash the new wealth with these brands, and I think they all have their priorities wrong. I owned an emerging designer boutique once and it was such a struggle to sell things for a fair price because people didn’t know the brands. A friend 10:06 of mine that just bought a $1000 Mulbury bag, who thought a designer coat with a lot of design features and detail for $300. I always joked if I took a $2000 Gucci bag, took off the logo and put it in my shop, I wouldn’t have been able to sell it even for $150. I’ve always found the neutral colours more stylish, however it is a shame that colour is seen as trashy or over the top, maybe because it is hard to style colour in a classy way. To me it would be ideal if people appreciated apparel by less known designers that don’t mass produce and make things ethically. Somewhere in the space between overpriced luxury brands, and fast fashion

I like quiet luxury and always have. But I have to call you out on the comparison of the pants/trousers/whatever - they may all be black wool pants, but the cut on them clearly distinguishes them as high end and not. The most expensive pair had a fluid line all the way from the waist to the ankle. It was designed to have the fabric seem like liquid, without a break. The least expensive pair had tapered legs and an narrow waist so the hips jut out, even without being on a person. The center pair, priced between the other two, also has tapered legs, albeit with a straight waist and hem. The crotch on both the least and middle range priced pants were far different from the most expensive. I'm not in fashion but even I could see that from a mile away. It's an unfair comparison. Doesn't change my view any - still prefer quiet luxury - but was surprised at how different these pants were.
@stylesnippets
@stylesnippets 8 ай бұрын
Thanks so much for watching (especially that far into the video), and for sharing your thoughts! The trousers weren't intended or claimed to be a like for like comparison - but rather just to illustrate the point I was making in the video that a pair of black wool trousers from a 'quiet luxury' brand is generally going to set you back much more than it would from a contemporary or high street brand. But really interesting points you raised!

I have been an VVIP for Chanel for over a decade and this means, yes I love the brand. So when I buy logo branded stuff, it is like a Dodgers fan wearing a team jersey. I am an avid Pengsu fan and wear Pengsu T shirts, shoes, purses all the time as well. I want to flaunt my appreciation, love and effection. It is not only that. Logos are asthetically pleasing. Calling logo studded stuff tacky and ugly is just peopel being insecure and adding on meaning to a beautiful product. I do not like the quiet luxury trend because it smells of insecurity just the same.

Great video..Two decades ago bigs brands were not so expensive like now, I used to go Harrods sales in London and I could afford to buy 3 or 4 shoes , now they cost a fortune . I had YSL bags when I was teenager, then I did feel ashamed to wear them. Luckily I live in Italy I can find so stunning high quality bags, shoes etc without any big tags or brands. So many z celebrities and tacky people wear Hermes and Chanel that I will want to be next to them.

Logomania is arguably far more elitist because if you’re not wearing a particular logo/brand/designer you’re not in the cool crowd (unless you buy counterfeit and attempt to fit in). Whereas unbranded understated luxury can be pulled off far easier. Not many people can spot a Brunello jumper, a similar style of good quality can be obtained for much less and give off a similar if not identical look, so quiet luxury arguably has a lower cost of entry than the logo look. And they’re longer lasting and don’t date as quickly. Logos however are tacky, I don’t care how you try and justify it, it really is. Often people that wear or rely solely on logos to look good often have poorly fitted mismatched items where they rely on the logo/brand to carry the outfit/look. As for people buying the style of a bag and not necessarily the logo (the example you gave of the LV Metis) I disagree. If it’s only the style you’re after, there are better options out there. You see, the labels know this, they know people want the logo plastered all over their items and it’s the logo they crave not the style (the style of bag may be of secondary importance).
@stylesnippets
@stylesnippets 8 ай бұрын
Thanks so much for watching and sharing 😊. Agree that a similar style of good quality can be obtained for much less, and also about it not dating. I think that some people rely on logos to look good, and others like them but don't rely on them - we all have different styles and tastes.The logo and style of a bag together makes it uniquely that bag. You could get the style elsewhere without it, but then it would be a different bag.

I've always liked simple chic and monochrome styles but hate the idea of 'this is how rich people dress so you should follow' that is implicitly or explicitly implied in some influencers' videos on quite luxury/old money. The fact that rich people can afford an outfit that costs an ordinary household's annual savings should be a reminder that we still live in a world with inequality.

Everyone keeps overcomplicating this. The " old money aesthetic" and "quiet luxury" overlap, but aren't the same thing. More importantly, quiet luxury is as much a mindset as it is an aesthetic. Let's break it down 1) The quiet part: If everyone knows if an item is expensive, then it isn't quiet. easy 2) The luxury part: If it is easily attainable(either from price or availability) or it is not well made, then it's not luxury. Therefore, quiet luxury is about buying high-end "luxurious" products that YOU appreciate. The less attention the item receives the better. And for those who hate the "if you know, you know" aspect, I think you miss the point. Everybody wants to be part of a community. I can't stand Taylor Swift's music, but many people build connections over miscellaneous facts or stories around the nuances of it. Who am I to judge them for enjoying and connecting over something they know and that I don't? That would say much more about my insecurities than theirs...

Nothing quiet about it. Luxury lost its lustre with the viral surge of LV decades ago. When my dry cleaners started wearing LV, I lost interest. In order to to ‘know’, you have to spend a lot of valuable time finding out, and if you fill your head with that pap, how’s it any different to H&M or Zara? Give me people who,shop thrift, who work from cut, quality of fabric and fit, and who know themselves their bodies and lives, and dress accordingly. They have time to put into what matters, and what will last. Most hotel housemaids know all these brands, so what? If it only was quiet, but it’s so shrill it needs noise cancelling headphones.
