the most important upgrade to a drift car is a *driver upgrade*
@teamredshirt
@teamredshirt 5 жыл бұрын
An upgrade made necessary by the shit show that was FD pro 2 this past weekend. If those Pro 2 guys were focusing more on their, as you say, driver upgrades, they would have had better control rather than showing up with a 900 or 1000 hp monster they can't handle outside of perfect conditions. To be clear, I'm not shitting on them, I admire them hell out of them being able to even be there, I just wish that the pro 2 series itself was less focused on being a clone of Pro, and more focused on getting the best drivers into the Pro series where they need to build the monster drift machine. As it is, lots of these Pro 2 guys are building their own machines, yes they get sponsorships, but not often is it complete, or enough to let them go full time, which limits their time on track, preventing the level of dedication to practice that a pro driver may have.

@@kirkarvint.2017 where i live, it's ~700 bucks a weekend of racing, so with all costs included (fuel, tyres, transport and on) it's close to 1200. So yeah, should i have the money to burn, i'm not going to track a bone stock car. everything is going to be built so it's easy to fix, quick to take apart and tune. with a proper race car shell and suspension setup, i have room for upgrading the engine; that can stay stock for training. besides, we also have noise regulations. so cheap mods like pod filters and straight pipes are useless.

High horse power figures shine in drag racing, balance is key in circuit racing. @@brandenrussell2647 you dont want to track a quattro, though. maintenance is high $$$ and these cars are not easy to work on for the most. audis are infamous for that "remove the entire front clip to replace the water pump and other accessories" deal. granted it unbolts quick, but still. you know why shops take 4+K for a new chain and water pump. best budget track car is a miata, second would be a 3 series bimmer. third would be a sn95/98 stang. those cars are easy to get parts for, easy to work on, and powerful enough for training.

It comes down to they don't have trailers, trucks, garages, etc so their cars simply can't be as modified as they would want them to be, which forces them to have really simple rad cars most of the time. Also they had more turbo cars available. Great video idea, I might try that today!

You know what. I would love Chelsea to do a video about the most vital places to reinforce a e36, maybe vital suspension,steering mods for the buck , or what are the most reliable bmw engines for the buck(s52,s54 don't count :D cause the car itself cost as much or near as much as the engine), what engine mods are vital to them to be able to thrash them at drift events whenever you want, is the hydro dual caliper setup worth it, is a radiator overflow tank worth it, do any other things come to your mind. TL:DR - I would like Chelsea to do a Q/A on all about e36'es and the best/cheapest way you can get away with it with not buying better parts for it in the long run so you could have fun with the car as much as possible, you know "Keep drifting fun."

That engine is worth way more than the car. You can pick a TI up for less than $1000. Your best bang for your buck is to pick up a early model e36 with the m50 non vanos motors. I'm glad that Chelsea touched on how driving for the RTR team is a job. I don't think a lot of drivers realize that if you get picked up by a team or even if you just get sponsors it becomes your job to promote the team/product. I've seen drivers lose sponsors and even full rides just because of their behavior off track. Unfortunately in this day and age you are never 'off the clock' when you represent a team/sponsor. You need to act professionally if you want to keep and even attract sponsors.

Awesome content like always! You got me wondering if my vq 240sx is over built now or if it's right in the middle🤔 tubed front roll cage angle kit etc.. you can see it on my channel.
@LoneStarDrift
@LoneStarDrift 5 жыл бұрын
A VQ 240sx is not over built, that would be a super reliable cheap car to drive long term. It gets my stamp of approval, even if my ears hate you lol.
@Pheatan
@Pheatan 5 жыл бұрын
It all depends on how its done. A vq swap done to make as much power as possible and having to check every possible failure point after 3 laps, then its definitely over built. If you like chelsea and have a cool down be a lap around the track following instead of drifting then its cool even if the VQ is murder on the ears. It also depends on experience. My first year learning to drift, having a turbo kit on my miata was too overbuilt compared to the stock s13 hatch (we have sr20s stock in NZ) i use now and just go through 40 laps an event

Last year Chelsea came by my house and picked up a car my son stored for him. He was towing his e36 back from California and pulled it off the trailer loaded up the Toyota and his GF drove his car back to Portland from Medford Oregon. The car is just that reliable that he beats it to death and can still be driven hundreds of miles on the highway.

agree, but s54 is not really good example, for price of s54 (+ reseal, rod bearings etc) in europe you can build m50 stroker turbo...

Send what I have that's always been my motto. Mine is a stock G35 Sedan 5AT with an open diff. I just built up the suspension as I got better. Seat time is all that matter to me.
@NGNMYokohama
@NGNMYokohama 5 жыл бұрын
Get a diff! It makes such a huge difference that it should really be the first or second mod to a drift car - either before or after a seat.
@Wildchildinc

@@NGNMYokohama I'm getting a 1.5 clutch type from cusco. Honestly it is day and night difference from when I drove friends cars. I've been sending it open diff for 5 years haha. All of my upgrades prior were suspension pieces.
