These companies are awesome and I regularly eat a few of their products. It's only a matter of time before they undercut the price of meat because the ingredients are cheaper. They just need more effective manufacturing and logistics to bring the price down which will definitely happen over the next decade.

@@gallectee6032 Real meat is an essential component of regenerative agriculture. Plant versions are worse for the environment because they necessitate monocrop culture, which destroys soil. @@charlieparkeris Why would plant versions necessitate monocrop culture? That's up to the land owner. If they want to deplete their soil, they can do so. If they want to preserve it, they can do that as well by rotating crops. Animal farming is inefficient and dangerous, and using livestock to turn desert into grassland is extremely inefficient. @DottyWagz

They don't taste the same. My nan used to try and trick me wheb I was in my teens (nans a vegetarian im not). I could always tell. Most people eat so fast they can't tell the difference but wheb you eat slowly you can tell. The plant based is not as chewy as real meat and falls apart in your mouth but not in a good way. The texture if you pay attention is just slightly off. When making a spaghetti meat dish, the sauce is thinner and had less flavours as there is no animal fat in the sauce for thikness and tast. Meat simply tasts better but this stuff is real close but not the same.

There's one single reason: nutrition. I don't eat meat for taste. I eat it, because at the end of the day, when I haven't eaten my portion, I become unusually hungry and nervous. There are many nutrients that don't get well taken in without animal protein.

It think that's pretty obvious... *DEMAND* also *subsidise* amongst other factors. The more people buying it the more price should go down. Meat for example is the most _inefficient_ foods available. It destroys ecosystems and takes very large lands to produce. Yet it's "cheap" right? Well it's only "cheap" because government subsidises the meat industries to keep produces meat due to massive demands. But this is at a cost of our environment. In reality meat is quite expensive to make when it comes to resources. It needs large lands, lot of water, and guess what... a lot of plants as well. In fact about 75% percent of all grown crops is exclusively fed to animals.

@Dragon Fist A baseless aucussaon. Have you ever taken care of an animal in your life? Have you ever been on a farm and ranch where they properly take care of there animals. I love in the countryside and just yesterday I was gray fox cubs playing under my window. There are Bobcats in the area. You would probably think folks just get out the gun and shoot the wildlife but you would be wrong. Have you been around animals or wildlife? Or are.you just an armchair crusader trying to start fights because your angry. There is a lot of things I dislike in this world. I don't like how folks raise there animals I also don't like how a bunch of folks grow crops. Vegans like preach about stuff they never done or never seen first hand. Do you know where your food comes from? Did you know that it's alive? When you eat fruit and vegetables it's alive and plants can proven by science recognize people and know the difference between violence and kindness and can remember who to be scared of. Everything is full of life. The yeast in our bread was alive so is the stuff they make this fake meat. It's grown hell rust is alive.

@Dragon Fist I can tell you don't know what your talking about. And you clearly don't know what slavery is. You just sound like someone repeating someone's else's words. Basically you sound like a person who's being led around by the nose never asking why?. Yes I know there are bad practices by big companies in the food industry. They are making a mess of things for money. That's how we got Mad Cow and all that algae blooms killing the ocean and waterways. Also the fact that most of our food grown depends on water pipelines getting it from rivers and lakes that are drying up. And the people living in houses just love to waste water and electricity to make themselves comfortable never understanding or caring what it takes to get that resources to there homes to conserve use. You honestly need to champion a cause that will benefit and change your area for the better. In my area we conserve water use and reused our gray water to water our plants. We don't shoot the wildlife. We have free classes available to learn Life skills. Also we help each other out so no one feels alone. And we check on the elderly. We also have as a community reduced our trash and are composting. And our community has an program for convicts to get back on there feet so they can live there life in peace and not feel trapped in a cycle.

The natural conversion of grass that humans can’t digest, into animal growth with a byproduct fully known to enhance soil health is superior to masses of cultivation to provide vegetable proteins of huge quantities to process through stages to get fake meat. It has all sorts of other processed things to replicate meat. And why, and how, the fake meat juice to ooze. Just think of the tractor miles preparing soils to then go over again to plant and then spray pesticides and herbicides, then harvest, freight to silos, then to factories. And grass will grow, not eaten will just die off to slowly rot, emitting gases from bacteria, but for far more time than being digested right down and helpful bacteria. And your pets need meat. You can be vegetarian but that does not equate to emissions free and saving the world. You still drive around in vehicles and use things transported in trucks.

The equation 9kCal of feed for 1kCal of chicken meat is misleading. Farm animals largely consume calories from sources that are unavailable for humans, like grass, bran (cows can extract calories from what is pure fiber to us), fodder vegetables (which can grow in places and climates that wouldn't feed their ciunterparts for human consumption) and many types of food industry leftovers (like fishmeal, brewing leftovers, even old bread, bad fruit). I live in Poland, in a village, hardiness zone 7b (we range from 6a to 8a). We are a mainly an agrocultural country: we produce grains, fruits, dairy and meat. But only recently the government has launched an initiative to grow protein rich plants - fodder types. They want to research which regions have good enough soil and stable amount of rain to be just good enough for some specific new fodder legume stains which are more durable than regular fodder types. We just don't produce high protein plants for human consumption, because it's not viable. But we do produce lots and lots of high EU standard quality animal protein. If 9kcal=1kcal equation was true, we wouldn't be able to produce any.

Uh, does everyone realize that any plant based meats are heavily PROCESSED and I would say even more than regular meat products as it takes a whole lot of chemistry to make a plant taste and look like meat. They may add additional stuff like protein or other chemicals to change the structure of the plants used. Like cmon, I could just buy unprocessed meats every few days instead of once a week and season it according to my tastes and it would be much healthier than any plant based food. Update: even if we were to eliminate eating meat, it would NOT improve our climate change effort even by an inch as the pollution generated by the entire meat production industry is 2% of the worlds total pollution and instead we should clamp down on the oil and gas industry which is estimated to be at least 40% of the total pollution emissions.

Glorified unhealthy processed food. There are 3 things that make meat unhealthy. #1 high temperature cooking because it makes Advanced Glycation End-products. This you can reduce by cooking meat in a soup, chili or stew. Even something like lasagna, if it is not overcooked. I cook burger with spices in 1/8 inch of water covered, comes out terrific and with minimal AGEs, compared to cooking the traditional way. #2 Heme. Mostly, it adds too much iron. Too much iron shortens lives. This excess iron is stored in major organs, especially the liver. Over a period of years, the stored iron can cause severe damage that may lead to organ failure. It also can lead to long-lasting diseases, such as cirrhosis, diabetes and heart failure. A try, might be to donate blood frequently. That is just a guess, though. #3 Saturated fat. We can trim meat, buy lesser grades, and buy lower fat burger. Impossible tries to mimic all the worst qualities, and succeeds is making a burger just as bad for you or worse. This only appeals to people who like very unhealthy burgers. They mention the Maillard Reaction. That reaction is what makes Advanced Glycation End-products (AGEs). That is what makes "processed" food bad. It is made 3 ways: high temperature cooking, high-speed blending, and fermentation. This is what is killing America. Factories love these processes. Especially the first 2, because they accelerate production. But it is not always the things you think. Bacon and butter are the worst, Parmesan cheese, cream cheese, feta cheese, toasted sesame oil, roasted nuts, peanut butter made from roasted peanuts, mayonnaise, hot dogs (boiling is your best bet though), are all bad. Frying a steak in olive oil is a disaster, frying a steak in canola is also terrible. Any meat deep-fried is a disaster. You don't even want to fry tofu. Boil or steam it. Scramble, or boil your eggs. Forget French fries, and potato chips. Thin crust pizza is terrible, because they cook it too high. Pizza sauce and mozzarella are fine, if you only just melt the cheese, and avoid browning it. I melt mozzarella and heat the sauce separately and spread it on, after the crust is ready. You can't really expect an American to go without pizza. The only beverage to be concerned about is Swiss Miss Cocoa, though the caramel color in sodas is high in AGEs. They should ban that.

Plants are definitely the future! Insect is a lot better than meat but you can't escape the laws of thermodynamics. Plants will always be better than any animals proteins when it comes to eco-footprint per bio-avaliable protein and nutrients produced. But hey! baby steps I guess... plus insect might be our original animal foods before our species started eating meat. And still a lot better and healthier than any meat anyway. Although it's definitely not for me personally.
