This video covers how to do a transmission drain and fill on the Nissan Pathfinder, Infiniti JX35 and QX60. It covers all years 2013 2014 2015 2016 2017 2018 2019 2020 2021. This video also covers front wheel drive (fwd) and all wheel drive (AWD) models. This is not a flush, and will only remove less than half of the fluid. This will give your CVT transmission longer life, if handled correctly and done at the correct intervals. I noticed immediate, noticeable improvements in drive quality, shifting, and fuel economy after this. Enjoy!
**Please note*** When Infiniti revised their CVT for MY 2015, there seems to have been some changes to the CVT transmission pan and charge port. While the process is generally the same, there is a few notable change, and one very critical change. This also seems to affect some late model MY 2014 models. For more details on that extra process, please see the video here
• 2015 and up QX60 - Add...
1. When you take out the 'dipstick' on the charge port on the top, there is no longer a dipstick
2. The transmission pan is considerably different
3. There is a drain port at the bottom, just to the left center of transmission pan, at an angle. When filling, you do have to open this up and put fluid in at the top until it starts dripping from the bottom. I will hopefully have an updated video for these cars shortly

This video is straightforward and gave me the courage to tackle the job - which is easier than an oil change - agree the dip stick is tricky but once released it is fine. Dropped exactly 4 litres which is a smidgen over 4 quarts - Fluid is a whole other discussion - I found some aisin atf-ns3 nice and blue for Nissan-Infiniti for half the price of dealer

After watching your excellent diy video the hardest part, by a long shot, was the friggin dipstick! That was ridiculously over the top engineered, I must have spent 30 minutes trying to get mine off. I replaced what came out, exactly 4 qts. and it looked like used motor oil. I purchased Pennzoil CVT NS-3 rated fluid at Wally World for $7.50qt. and playing doing this job again at the next oil change. Again thank you very much for the helpful video, it makes life a lot easier for people like myself. Have a great day and WASH THOSE HANDS PEOPLE 😉

@@NexusAuto I just did a drain a refill on my jx35, but I only got 2.5 quarts out? I added that amount back but shouldn't it be 4quarts?
@NexusAuto
@NexusAuto 2 жыл бұрын
@@SP-dw9gi It should be roughly 4 quarts, but there are other variables. First, was the car on a level surface? Was it on ramps? All that can make a difference Also, depending on your mileage and CVT condition, you may have burned some fluid. Did you notice any fluid leak around the transmission...even a small one? Otherwise, if you didn't do it this time, warm up the transmission to help the flow of fluid, and shift through all the gears (R, N, D, back to P), then drain the fluid. That may help next time (which may be a while from now anyways)
@SP-dw9gi
@SP-dw9gi 2 жыл бұрын
@@NexusAuto thanks for the response, it's 90,500 Miles on it, I did the change on a slight incline in my driveway, No noticeable leaking. I didn't warm it at all and no shifting prior, it was actually not driven for a week. I actually had the CVT Judder on some RPM ranges, so I took the vehicle into Infiniti, apparently I ran out of the extended warranty for Judder pF170, it was last year for CVT replacement and this is why I did the fill and replace fluid. I have driven it 100+ miles so far thank God no judder, on any RPM range. I replaced with exact amount taken out and I even added the CVT recharge and protect from Lube guard, I did not use NS-3, I used Valvoline Full Synthetic CVT fluid. But results so far have been night and day, my concern was the amount. Anything I can do to verify if I need to add a little? I appreciate the help btw, I watched your vid a couple of times before I proceeded. Note: the fluid looked like it needed replacement it was so dark like it was burnt, no metal shavings or green tint of any kind.
@NexusAuto
@NexusAuto 2 жыл бұрын
@@SP-dw9gi No problem at all. The most important thing, above all else, is that it seems you caught the fluid at the right time before the judder becomes a bigger issue. Sounds like the fluid change did the trick! Great news on the fluid condition too. THe dark, burnt smell is not good of course, but no shavings or discoloration is always a win, especially on these CVTs. Your JX35 should have the dipstick in the charge tube. That is the best way to verify. The transmission needs to be warmed up before checking, so go for a good drive, then come back and check your fluid level and verify the level. Top up if needed, and go for another drive and recheck. Hopefully the amount of fluid that came out is just related to the couple of things you confirmed (cold transmission/ slight driveway incline). If the fluid level looks spot on, I would say drive the JX for a bit (maybe a hundred miles or so) and do another drain and fill...replace another 2.5 quarts. You can even do this a few times, and the fluid will be better and better with each go. You don't have to, especially since it seems your issue went away, but it's an option. Thanks for the great feedback too. Happy to hear the video helped out.

Verdict utilizing the Valvoline?? I am looking to “change” the fluid several times before I consider a complete flush of the transmission BUT using genuine OEM fluid is costly (used the amazon link). I just changed the fluid 1st time today using genuine OEM fluids. My vehicle has long exceeded the recommended mileage interval for doing this (93.5k) hence why I want to change the fluid several times before I get a full flush. I followed your instructions to the letter Nexus Auto and everything went smooth EXCEPT that damn filler stick!!! 🤬 During my test drive I felt it did improve the performance slightly, won’t know how much until I get into certain similar situations prior to the change of fluids. Thank You Nexus Auto for taking the time to do these vids; as someone previously stated not many are doing DIY on these particular vehicles. Next up Rear Diff

Successfully did this on my JX35, which AFAIK at 106K miles was on the original fluid. Used Castrol Transmax (NS3 rated and $20 for 4 quarts @ Amazon) with great results. Waited a week between first and second drain & fills, drained almost exactly 4 qts each time. Will do a third drain and fill in another couple weeks and then do it again in 30K. Hardest part was pulling that dang dipstick out. What a pain in the butt!

Great video, I like how you show the location of the drain plug and mention some key facts when doing this servicing. One tip I would give you is to maybe compile a list of the important facts and just have them displayed on the screen (similar to how you do the tools required for the job). I find that when listening to the video, some important information can be missed. I would include how many quarts are required, what fluid to use, how often to do it etc etc etc. In terms of Infiniti/Nissan maintenance, it is an absolute joke that they dont recommend changing the transmission fluid until well over 150,000km. They are setting the transmission up for failure. I had my JX35's replaced at around the 100,xxx mark and will be doing another at 130,000 most likely (just preventative maintenance). Although this transmission is a CVT, doesn't mean it is exempt from regular maintenance. Good work, keep it up!

Hi Bik, long time!. Thanks for the great feedback on the video. I like your suggestion...as sort-of summary of what I talk about in the video at the beginning. I like that idea. I will look to implement something like that in the future. I completely agree with you in regards to Nissan and Infiniti. I think it is ridiculous. I actually spoke to 2 different Nissan dealerships and 2 different Infiniti dealerships last year to see what their thoughts were...and I got a different answer every time. Some said you NEVER change the fluid (which is laughable), some said over 250000 kms, and some said 150000 kms. I gave my recommendation in the video, but if you even want to do it at 70000 kms, I would recommend it. Especially with how finicky these CVTs can be. It is a great idea to do it again at 130000...I will likely do the same. Thanks again for the support Bik! Appreciate it.

Great video thanks! I did this on a 2015 QX60. Its a bit different than the video. At first I only had about 2.5 quarts come out. It was BLACK as well, I'm guessing they hadn't done one in a long time. Doing some research on this year model, its normal for about 4 quarts to come out, give or take a bit. So there's some people who have had only a couple of quarts come out. It might be because you've burnt off a bunch or it could be an issue from the factory where they just didn't put enough. Could be a common issue as most people can't check the level after 2015 cause there is no damn dipstick! Using the charge port is a pain because its hard to turn the screw (had to lift up car to get leverage) Anyways after a drain and fill, I re-filled again and it ended up being just over 4 quarts until a slow trickle came out with the engine/trans at operating temp. I was short about 1.5+ quarts! Hope this helps someone else.

Great video sir. Curious about the transmission filter though. Doesn't it also need to be changed? I know you prefer genuine fluid but the compatible fluids are just as good in my experience and fully synthetic as well. Is there a downside to using a compatible fluid like the Castrol transmax CVT transmission fluid or any of the others?
@NexusAuto
@NexusAuto 3 жыл бұрын
Filters should be changed, but you really can't get to this one unless you remove and open the transmission. It's not like the cars of old where you drop the pan and the filter is there, unfortunately. The filter is supposed to be a 'serviceless' filter (which I don't believe it), and getting to it is near impossible for a DIYer. I am actually a big proponent of aftermarket filters and parts. Castrol Transmax is an excellent transmission fluid. However The only reason I recommended OEM for these cars is that the CVTs are very much prone to failure, and seem very sensitive. So that is my motivation to recommend OEM fluid. I've seen a few people on here use Transmax and seem to have no issues. Up to you if you want to try it.

Yep you do. But more than that. You want to give it a drive too. You may or may not know this, so mentioning it, just in case. Some people will idle their vehicle until it warms up. But this doesn't mean the trans is warmed up too. Give it a regular drive (no need to put your foot down) and a good 7-10 min drive, depending on outside temp, would be enough to get the trans to op temp.

Great videos. Followed and did several lighting upgrades that you recommended as well as the oil change. I was planning on doing the CVT fluid this weekend on my new to me month old Infiniti, JX 35, but unfortunately, after less than a month of owning it, the transmission failed without any warning, is that common for these transmissions? This was a very well-maintained 2013 JX 35 the previous owner did everything that the dealership told them to do but at the 60,000 and 90,000 mile time frame they did not tell them to change the CVT fluid as they did at the 30,000 mile check up.
@NexusAuto

Thanks for following and checking out all the vids! But DAMN!! So sorry to hear about what happened with your 1 month old JX35. I won't say it's common enough for a recall, but these transmissions are very VERY finicky. Failures are a major problem with them (along with almost all Nissan/Infiniti CVTs from early 2010s to late 2010s). It's very annoying that the dealer did not recommend a flush on this vehicle. Although Infiniti says it is a 'lifetime' fluid (which is a total lie), I know many dealerships in my area that recommends it at 60000 miles. The fact that it was never recommended is a major oversight on their part, especially considering the nature of these CVTs

@NexusAuto

Unfortunately, you won't be able to check the current level because they don't come with dipsticks. When refilling after a flush, there is now a 'fill' plug. You open that up and when filling the transmission, when it's full, fluid will start to drain from the fill plug

It should be the same for all 2013 JX35 and almost all 2014 QX60. However, for the 2015 MY, Infiniti revised the transmission, and they did make changes to how the transmission is filled and serviced. Although you have a 2014 MY, you may have the newer transmission. Check out this supplemental video here kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jJeVndufqJjMYqc.html There should only be 2 designs for the transmission, from info I can get. the one in my original video, and the one i describe in this video. Compare both and that should tell you which trans you have. I hope this helps a bit. I wish I had a newer model to actually show the difference, but I do not.

@NexusAuto
@NexusAuto 4 жыл бұрын
Generally that would be correct, but that info should not be considered guaranteed. For example, I have AWD and 4 qts came out. Generally, you should drain the fluid, and top up with the same equivalent. Then you should warm up the transmission (generally, 130 degrees f is ideal) and re-top up as needed. I have seen many cars where either the manufacturer did not fill enough from factory, or there could be an internal problem causing low fluid. Always check and re-check to be safe.

If that's the case, check out this video. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jJeVndufqJjMYqc.html If your transmission pan looks like the one in this video, then there will be a fill plug that drips when the transmission is full. Also means this JX has a newer transmission for some reason (may have been replaced before). @NexusAuto
@NexusAuto 2 жыл бұрын
Happy to hear the video motivated you to work on this yourself...that's awesome news. But really sorry to hear about that drain bolt. There are things to try, but they all come with a level of risk and skill. First, more leverage. This would mean using something longer (like a breaker bar) to apply extra force to the bolt. The good is leverage works 80% of the time. The bad is that you can either further strip the head of the bolt or in rare cases damage the threads of the drain bolt. Next, there is getting a torch and applying some heat. Heat works so well in loosening up stuck bolts of all types, and is my personal friend in these situations lol. But the bad is the safety concerns from using a torch, both for vehicle damage or for yourself, especially in a tight space underneath. And if heated for too long, it can Damage the bolt too. The next thing is to use a bolt extractor. These are particularly good if the head of the drain bolt gets too damaged. Check out videos of them online (I haven't made one yet, personally). The down side is that the are an extremely risky venture of you're unsure about them, they are expensive, and are truly a last resort option. If I were there, sometimes I would be able to improvise something too, but without seeing it, this is the most common courses of action. Hope that helps a bit

@NexusAuto
@NexusAuto Жыл бұрын
Hmm. That is a hard question to answer. I will give my opinion on it, but take that as is. I get where people are coming from with the concerns on doing a flush. The problem is, when you do a full flush, it drains the entire system. There are tons of stories of people doing flushes and then the transmission failing soon afterwards on these vehicles. Google it...trust me, it happens. However, with the drain and fill as seen in this video, it only removes some of the fluid (about 4-5 liters) and only from the pan. This has a much higher success rate. These transmissions are a bit...finicky. They are known to fail (but don't let that scare you either. They fail at a higher rate vs other transmissions, but it's not like every one fails). If they are not freshened up with new fluid, they can fail as well. It is always a risk when your mileage is that high already and you are considering a flush. If it were me, I would do one drain and fill, drive for about 100 miles, then do another. This way, you are getting new fluid in, but minimizing the risks to transmission failure. Also, I have done mine twice, and there are lots of people who did this flush from this video and had no issues. So consider that too. Ultimately, consider the info I gave here, but weigh if it is worth doing and go from there.

This is just a drain and fill, so aside from the transmission fluid, there is no additional parts. Even so, I rarely mention part numbers for liability concerns. As for the trans number, there is no need to mention that, as when making videos, when you start mentioning things like that, I would open a can of worms with questions like 'how do I tell which one I have' or 'how can I check the part number' etc. etc. etc. The best bet is mentioning model years, which is in the description. 2013 and 2014 had one transmission, 2015 and onwards had a revised CVT. It really is only the 2 units out there for this vehicle. Take it from someone who has been making these videos for a while, i try to make them detailed, but too much detail is not good either. For every one person out there like yourself who wants to know this info, there is 15 who do not or feel like it bogs down the videos. Gotta work with YT algorithms.

@NexusAuto
@NexusAuto 4 жыл бұрын
It is not necessary to change the filter. You technically can, and it sells for around $40 USD, but unlike older cars, the filter is meant to never be changed at all. For CVTs in general, the filter should never be touched. Especially true on Nissan and Infiniti CVTs. It is worth noting that the service manual does not even list a way to change the filter...it is considered part of the CVT assembly (although again, technically it is not) There is no true service interval on the drain and fill on this car. The manual officially says to have it checked at specific intervals, but no official change time. I spoke with both Nissan and Infiniti and got all sorts of answers, none of them consistent. For me, I recommend doing it no later than 60000 miles. Especially since these CVTs can be finicky. If possible, do it earlier (45000-50000 miles), and maintain a schedule with it. You will be good to go.

If it makes that much of a difference, then the BMW is the choice. If there isn't a big difference, I would say forget the BMW. Then if you are looking at petrol, then it's just car size. The asx is quite a bit smaller to the Jx35. And it has a small 4 cyl to a bigger v6. What's your preference there? Then, there is other things. What's the mileage on the BMW and Jx35? The jx35 has a very sensitive transmission, and if it has not been serviced and has high mileage, you may be looking at expensive repairs later on. Hi. I recently purchased 2018 QX60 with 59,000 miles on it. I checked CARFAX and I can see that car was serviced pretty much all life at dealership with all basic and necessary maintenance but I don’t see anywhere transmission service or transfer case and differential. I’m thinking of changing these fluids. After watching the video I read all the comments and from what I can understand the 2018 model is a bit different and I already checked and there is no dipstick to measure fluid level after refill, it’s only a cap to cover fill opening and in my understanding if I go ahead and change the fluid the only way to check the level it this “fill” plug that was mentioned on one of the comments. Is it located on transmission pan slightly higher than drain plug? If so, how to check correct level in this case? Do I need to have car running and make sure that the fluid warm up and while car is running open that plug to see if it will be dripping or the car has to be off and fluid has to be cold to check? Maybe someone else have a newer model too, done through the process and can give some answers also. I would appreciate any advice/information before I proceed with that. Thank you!

@NexusAuto 7 ай бұрын
Hi. You would be correct. From around mid-2015, Infiniti revised the transmission, and removed the dipstick and added a fill plug. Check out this video. It does explain it a bit more. I wish I had a newer QX60 to show everyone. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jJeVndufqJjMYqc.htmlsi=rnYLkHV4KS8OaNGf To answer your inquiries The fill plug is located higher than the drain plug. It is on the side of the transmission. Make sure to open this plug first before opening the drain plug. To check the correct level, you would warm up the transmission, then open the plug. If no fluid comes out, then it probably needs a small top up. If fluid trickles out, you're good. If fluid pours out, then it is overfilled. As mentioned above, the transmission should be warmed up when checking the level. You can check it with the car running or off, but ideally, running, if possible. Additionally, when you change the fluid, and you drain out the old fluid and reinstalled the drain plug, you would fill up the fluid in the dipstick tube up top until it trickles from the fill plug. But this will still be cold fluid. So you reinstall you fill plug, and go for a drive, which will warm up the existing, new fluid inside. You come back when warmed, and open the fill plug, and check the above. If no fluid comes out, then it probably needs a small top up. If fluid trickles out, you're good. If fluid pours out, then it is overfilled. Hope this helps.

I bought the transmission fluid directly from Infiniti/Nissan. There is actually 3 filters for this transmission. One on the outside for the cooler, one inside under the pan, and another inside that can only be reached by removing and opening the transmission up completely. There has been a lot of controversy with these CVTs and doing full flushes and changing the filter, and failures that happened soon afterwards. So I didn't bother to change it at this this. This is only a drain and fill, not a flush and filter. I may do that in the future, but I am cautious to due the CVT issues (look up Nissan CVT failure after flush or QX60 CVT failure after flush and you'll see what I mean).

@mohammadatif9661 $300 is about what the dealer does charge, so the price sounds right. And from what I've seen, they pretty much do the same thing as this video. I've haven't seen a dealer change a filter yet (but that can vary by dealerships and what they mandate). I'm sure smaller shops will be cheaper for sure, doesn't hurt to go to one or two and get quotes. Just make sure they are familiar with these CVTs before you let them flush it. I did check for any drivetrain recalls. As of 2022 when I last checked, there was no recalls for the CVT or ant part of the drivetrain itself

Thank you for this video, but why wouldn't you do a whole transmission flush instead of mixing new fluid with old, dirty fluid. Can a complete fluid flush be done where you actually drain all 10.7 quarts of old fluid and replace with all brand new fluid? I really enjoyed watching the video. You did a great job on it. Keep em coming.
@NexusAuto
@NexusAuto 4 жыл бұрын
Great question! Yes, technically you can do a full flush on these (or any) cars, but many modern cars, for lack of a better term, have babies for transmissions lol. In the days when I started on cars, you could flush a transmission, no problem. On newer cars, many from the early 2000s onward, the gearing inside is so small and precise, that as the transmission wears out, sediment builds up and sorts of 'fills' the wear points inside the transmission. When you do a full flush, you essentially make the transmission 'too efficient'. I know, doesn't make logical sense on the surface. But a full flush removes all those sediment build up, and you end up either 1. Transmission failure due to the now-revealed minor wear points on the gears, or 2. the dislodged sediment gets stuck somewhere inside the transmission, clogs up somewhere, and causes transmission failure that one. Some cars are better with this, some are VERY susceptible to it. It is also becoming more and more common as these transmission advances. The Nissan/Infiniti CVT is very susceptible for sure. By doing it this way, you remove a lot of bad fluid, and some sediment, but not too much. I have read some horror stories where people took their qx60 to the dealer and they did a full flush, only to have full trans failure within a few months. Essentially, if the transmission had a permanent filter, it should never be fully flushed. General rule, but applicable to many applications. Sorry for the long answer lol.

Honestly, no direct idea as to why only 3 quarts came out. However, I have encountered many cars over the years that did not have any leaks, and no burning, and the trans fluid was low on first check up. I always chalked it up to improper quality control, but you never know. At 52000 miles, I cannot even say it is a high mileage issue. There's a big debate on these CVTs for some time now. Initially, Nissan said you should NEVER service the fluid and filter, as it is lifetime items. Which is very wrong. However, when I was looking into making this video, there was a lot of people who complained of CVT failure after doing a full flush (remove all fluid, change filter). Long story short, dirt and debris can get caught in the small channels inside the transmission and cause blockages/overheating. Not that it WILL happen, but it could. So I decided to do the drain and fill method, which I have even seen Nissan and Infiniti do instead of a full flush. It has worked out so far. That being said, I have been getting a lot of requests over the years to do a full filter change. So I may make a video on that in the future. But no plans on this time. @NexusAuto

@fatherof2husbandof1 there's been some debate about this. The cooler one should be able to be changed with no issues. The internal one can't be changed unless you remove the transmission from the vehicle and open it up, so forget that one. That leaves the one in the pan. Generally speaking, I always believe a filter should be changed. However, there is quite a few stories of people doing full transmission flush and filter changed on these vehicles and the transmission failing shortly afterwards. It has to do with the very fine channels in the transmission and sediment becoming trapped in these channels, creating a clog. And with the build up filling worn parts, sort of repairing them, and when you flush the transmission, this build up is flushed out, causing slipping and other issues (including the above mentioned clogging). So based on that, I only made this video a a drain-and-fill. You may change the filter and be perfectly fine, but there is a small percentage of risk to doing it

@billyelliot78 I don't know 100% why. But my guess has to do with CVTs in general. Because of their complex and finicky nature (not just Nissan or Infiniti, but lots of other CVTs), they really don't want anyone touching them. When I first started investigating this CVT flush 4 or 5 years ago, I was told by Nissan and Infiniti that you never have to even change the fluid! But then, they started having these CVTs failed and then they introduced a service interval for them. But I think they never bothered to factor in the filter change. And there's tons of documented incidents of people doing full flushes on these CVTs (not a drain and fill like this video) and the transmission fails soon afterwards. So the less people touch the insides of the these transmissions, the better. It's also why I think they removed the dipstick on these CVTs sometime in 2015 too. I think it's all about self containing them and preventing user error.

There is a CVt fluid level darin port to check correct fluid level. It is smaller tjan yhe main drain plug just slightly above it. Also, it is very important to reach 100 - 113 degrees temp before checking fluid level via the fuild level drain port. Infiniti/Nissan CVT tans missions are very sensitive. What you did here is half correct, but dangerously incompetent that may damage the CVT transmission for incorrect level. (Look at other videos done by professionals) Drain and fill is ideal every 30K for CVT, so you don’t have to do a full flush every 60K miles. And it’s still cheaperto DIY than dealership. CVt transmission rebuilt or replacement is expensive, CVT fluid is cheap. Do darin and fill every 30 K makes sense to me.

Hi Root Cozy. I appreciate your response, but you have some things wrong there. While Pathfinders have the drain port, the JX35 and early QX60s do not. I am not sure if the later models, after they revised the CVT in 2015, if they added a drain plug...I have not checked the later models (and something tells me they have been revised and have a plug). But there is no drain port that is common on CVTs (even Nissan CVTs). Don't believe it? Aside from the fact that I pulled this data DIRECTLY from the service manual, which directly tells you to check and fill via the charge tube at the top, if you go to around 2:08, you can clearly see it is not there. It should be on the left of the pan, where the 3 bolts are, but that is only on the Pathfinder (and likely later model qx60). Same CVT, different pan at the bottom. As for temp, the technical information is to warm it up to 122-176 degrees f, to be specific. At least on the pre-revised transmission However, I agree with your assessment of changing the fluid at 30k miles. Especially on how finicky these transmissions are. I have done mine twice so far, and it drives better vs when I purchased it. However, you should never fully flush these transmissions...ever. Aside from Nissan/Infiniti seemingly having different info on when these should be flushed (spoke to different dealerships, always got a different story), there is many stories of people having issues with the CVT after a full flush at the dealership. As you said, they are very sensitive. The drain and fills every 30k miles or so is a great idea for longer life on these cars. I am sorry you feel this information was dangerously incompetent. I respectfully disagree. And I thank you for watching.

Hi I understand and agree with you. I didn’t realize on my initial comment that older models have different configuration and procedure for CVT fluid level check. The important reason reaching operating temperature before level check, is due to fluid dynamics. CVT fluid reacts and expands when hot, so if you check cold fluid, you risk over filling and may damage these fragile transmissions. Also just to share how I did it, you can access the plugs/ports without jacking up. Thanks again and keep making these DIY videos. I did a one person break fluid change as well every 30K together with CVT drain and fill. I do a coolant flush at 5 yrs or once before 100K. I used genuine nissan/infiniti fluids, except for break fluid and on my oul changes. I change my oul every 5K with full synthetic oil, and my filter is rated at 10K, so I only chamge it every other oul changes. This is cost effective and saves time. I use Walmart Supertech brand for my oil and break fluid. They are cheap yet has met and surpassed quality standards of expensive ripoff brands.

Yikes! That is a lot. It is work noting that their process is different. A drain and fill does not take out all the fluid, whereas at the dealership, they hook up a device and completely flush the system. There is positives and negatives to both processes, but it has been noted that for the Nissan/Infiniti CVT transmissions, full flushes does seem to lead to problems down the road. The drain and fill only takes out about a 3rd of the fluid, so it may be something you want to do multiple times (and you don't need to do it all at once) to get completely fresh fluid. For me, I have done it twice so far. Plan to do it again some time mid year, I think. It is a simple process, but make sure to follow the steps. Watch all my videos, especially since you have a 2015, as there has been some changes since my 2013. I have 3 in total (this video, one with a brief explanation on later models, and one on how to remove the dipstick). I find most people have the biggest difficulty with the dipstick, believe it or not. It is definitely the most annoying part of this job. make sure you can safely remove it BEFORE doing any draining of fluid. Aside from that, the only other things I would stress is to make sure to check the fluid level when the transmission is warmed up, and make sure you do not underfill or overfill. May seem obvious, but on many other cars, I have seen people get away with being inaccurate. But for the Infiniti CVT, you need to be precise. Hope this info helps out a bit.

It's inside the transmission. It should not be changed, as per Nissan/Infiniti. It's not easy to get to, apparently.

At 137k miles my trans started slipping. I usually do it every 40k miles. Just before 100k which was almost 4 years ago I had my shop do it for their 1st time. I saw on the receipt 7qts of oil. They said they got just over 6 out. Fast forward almost 40k miles they do it again. This time I had the oil because I was going to do it myself but the trans started slipping last week so I dropped it off no engine like but they said it’s going to need a new transmission. They said they found a used one 97k miles. I told them to get me a quote for new. $7k. I said oil is in the car try to fill and drain. I picked it up after hours and the box of 9qt of oil was empty. I thought maybe they drained it twice. It was driving better. Anyway, they got 7qt out so they put 7qt in. They said the oil was burnt black. Anyway I’m going to get another price from a friend that works at Nissan or we’ll trade it in while it’s driving good. I don’t know. I really liked this car. 1st time we have to spend money on it and it’s a doozy

Damn, that sucks. I know what you mean those. I really love mine too, but that transmission (and to a lesser extent the transfer case) are the biggest problems with these SUVs. Hope you get a good price on a transmission, and if not, a good trade in. I am still shocked with the maintenance you put in, that it failed though. Sucks to hear that!

@@NexusAuto I think it’s them putting 6 or 7qts in and not bleeding it.

@chrisshore9000 I agree. That overfill would causing foaming and premature fluid failure. And I can't see how they took out that many quarts with just a drain and fill. And considering your service history, that's the only way I see it happening. But damn, that is such a small mistake to make, that ended up being an expensive repair.

@@NexusAuto looking into it more, I’m wondering if Infinity put too much in when they had to replace the torque converter around 60k miles and didn’t drain some out. When my shop did it at

@chrisshore9000 oh, that's interesting. Wouldn't be the first time I've seen a dealership mess up on something. That is definitely a possibility, but the crappy part is there would be no way to really get compensation for that. Sounds like there's still a lot of work out here (like the high shop charges too)! I'm sorry to hear about what's happening too! Sounds like so much is coming all at once. That's so tough...I really feel for you. I hope everything works out with your mom...so sorry to hear that. On the other side of that, that's awesome to hear that your daughter is a state top swimmer! That's amazing but I know the commitments that come with that. I hope everything gets worked out and one less thing to worry about. Fingers crossed for you!
