The engineer was great, dude interviewing him made this more painful than it needed to be. I appreciate what he was trying to do to give us a better product none the less. I would love to see the two try this again without the fuss, maybe headphones could help idk. But the engineer is very patient and is very direct and understandable, I definitely got some jewels outta this

That double de-esser trick just saved my ass. I had a vocal and I could NOT get the SS's out with just one de-esser. I had put two on, but at the same frequencies. Having one at the default 5500hz and the other at 4500hz did the trick. Just like Fabian said, you want to get the vocal close to the listener but without ripping their head off. His method worked for me!

Not into the micro-managing host. We spent more time dealing with the host's neuroticism than we needed to. The unplanned/unrehearsed presentation could have also been organized a little in advance.

There is no such thing as "to much" processing. Remember he's getting sessions from other professionals hence why he doesn't have to do a lot in the mix. T-Pain is a damn good engineer and records on an $8,000 mic with probably a $7-$15,000 mic chain. Makes mixing the track much much easier.

It's down to the production more though. About mixing the music around the vocal as you go, rather than trying to mix a vocal in.

Also I'm surprised the waves guys doesn't know this but some plug ins start working before the meeter does. I love the R-Comp and if you can hear well enough it starts compressing before the plug in meeter senses it. A lot of analog gear works like that I assume its on purpose to mimic analog. Ear training is far more improtant than any thing else he can teach.

Do better waves. Plan these out properly and have the interviewee wear headphones. His entire flow is off because he can't properly explain himself as he worried about being heard and being told when he can and can't speak due to this half-assed setup.

Using programs like loopback, audio hijack, or voicemeeter would let the presenter add a ducker to the music so that their voice isn't lost when they're trying to explain while music is playing. Otherwise, a perfect presentation. Thank you!

This is one of those worst waves masterclass ever uploaded (no disrespect as I love waves and their videos). The video had low resolution, the master class itself seemed very disorganized and planned, Fabian appeared too worried about following the rules thst the interviewer was giving him to where he didn't explain himself that well in full detail, etc. Not feeling this one waves. Thanks for the upload though and keep them coming!

@@BennyParcher Dr DRE mixed his classics and everything after that was mixed by engineers that worked under DRE. I forgot their names but I worked with one and he was extremely good much better than Fabian. DRE is a master mix engineer and is still the best in hip hop. Its just if he decides to mix your record your losing your publishing instead of paying Fabian $2,000-$3,500ish. DREs will be much much better but he's gonna want all the money it makes.
