As a fursuiter myself, I can confirm that most(not all, but most) fursuiters and furries who are into the NSFW side of things have the common sense to keep it in appropriate settings. Yeah, the furry meet/convention mentioned in this story is one that isn’t likely to be around much longer if the organizer doesn’t tighten the leash(no pun intended) on the inappropriate stuff. It’s happened before. Example: Rainfurest, a convention that is no longer around because the last one that happened, people had no sense of boundaries. Most events have a strict “keep it in the hotel rooms/specific event room” rule for adult events, and they card people to ensure no minors get in

Yeah, with every fandom or hobby, there's gonna be a few gross people, but they tend to be the minority. Even the ones who are into the kinky stuff, most keep it to themselves. Like, last time I was in Japan and hung around Akibahara, almost everyone was very cool and not gross unwashed Otaku. There was even a group of guys in suits with super tricked out cars just hanging out and talking about how much they love street racing and racing animes. There was one weird older guy though who emerged from a doujin dungeon, hissed at us, and stormed away clutching a few binders. I figure that's about par for the course - 99% normal hobbyists, 1% fucking weirdos who everyone just notices more

Moral of the story… it’s ok to have hobbies and cosplay as anything as long as it does not harm yourself or anyone else. Not to mention not letting it take over your entire life. I have a fursuit and I love to wear it, but it’s not my entire life. And most importantly don’t do anything illegal, cause we don’t want that in the fandom as much as any other group does lol.

Story 1: given how she almost went down with her son solely because of her behavior there must be some sort of red flag in her background that would’ve cost her the job. But my question is why did the other manager go out of his way to prevent the background check? She misses several appointments instead of just one phone call, he decide to lie to everyone about it? Why was he helping her get the job without a background check? But anyway, I think it’s funny OP could’ve gotten revenge, could’ve reported her and fired her for spreading false rumors, which should be easy enough to prove. But he remains professional and civil, didn’t even tell anyone about why he was uncomfortable with her. And instead of appreciating and keeping her head down, she did decide to try to ruin him. OP you probably have a case here, she intentionally tried to sabotage your job by spreading Lies about you to all your coworkers. Even if she didn’t know you worked there when she applied, you have plenty of witnesses and I’m certain HR would have your back, should be enough to get a restraining order against her too. She’s going to be fired because of her stupidity, she couldn’t make a case about not being able to work.

I’d guess that - assuming the previous manager didn’t know her personally- it was a ‘bird of a feather’ situation. Some people operate on favours and will show clout by abusing their position for their chosen who will repay the favour by engaging in ‘not company approved’ social support. Aka gossip mongering,spying and future favours .

The final story hit home. In the Otaku community, this stuff happens. In some cases, ruin fandoms. Fandoms are supposed to be fun.
@kotlolish

Fandoms are fun, but just go with the 1% rule. 1% of all fandoms are toxic and terrible people. When it's 100 people.. only 1 is toxic wich you can manage. You can kick em out or make sure they don't act outta line. When it's a 1000 people... only 10 people are gonna be toxic. A small group, wich can already cause HUGE problems cause they coordinate. When it's 10k people... you got your own sub section of the fandom now... the toxic side. 100k, we are now at 1k people.. enough to start a town of toxic fans. The reason fandoms get ruined is because the toxic people either forcibly convert people to their side or... kick them out. Thus slowly shrinking their fanbase to the 1% toxicity becoming the 100%. That's what happened to you... I will say it once: "Gatekeep your fandoms responisbily, some people shouldn't be allowed in your branch." Cause if you go with a doors open policy.. you get what happens in the last story.. :|

Hey RSlash! Furry here, a couple notes: -fursuits can be paid in installments over time and many makers have payment plans. You don’t have to pay up front. Only time you have to pay up front is if you’re buying a suit AT a convention from a booth. -the NSFW side is actually pretty respectable the vast majority of the time. They keep things separated and have them clearly marked. At many events where there’s an 18+ section you’re carded at the door to the section so you can get in. -There are people that think “animals” are sexy like Lola Bunny or Nick Wilde. They’re characters obviously designed to be human like and have a personality. A lot of general public like those sorts of characters, it’s not that unusual. They’re not attracted to actual animals. Those are Zoos and we DONT want them in the fandom.

I think we as a race have fallen too far from the idea that consensual, non-sexual, physical contact exists. Like, too much focus on "touches mean sex," when things like cuddle piles and touch starvation exist. As an Asexual furry myself, I am so VERY on board with just enjoying physical contact with another human being. Part of the appeal, particularly to the non-sexual community of purries is... animals don't feel weird about physical touch. A pile of puppies or kittens, even adult cats and dogs, see nothing wrong with touching and enjoying one another's presence.

"What's sexy about an animal?" Everything, apparently. You can think of any body part or any physical quality, and there's a phrase comparing it to an animal. "Brave as a lion," "eyes like a hawk," "fast as a cheetah," "strong as an ox," "laugh like a hyena," "eat like a pig," "quiet as a mouse," "busy as a bee," "blind as a bat," "graceful as a gazelle," "gentle as a lamb," "stubborn as a mule," "slow as a tortoise," I could go on and on. Also, the worst part about those convention-goers with poor hygiene is they usually _never_ have any self-awareness about it. I can count the number of times that I've had people talk to me in an event room with, say, the worst breath. I'd offer a stick of gum, and they turned it down completely oblivious. Then I offered tic-tac and they turned that down. Then a breath mint. Then a different breath mint. Then another piece of gum. All the while leaning in as close as possible while talking to whoever they were focusing on at the time. (Yes, I also carry around sticks and spray deodorants specifically for people at conventions.)

There are many people who only interact with the SFW side of it, and that's absolutely valid! But it kinda annoys me when people pretend that the majority of the fandom doesn't interact with the NSFW part too, so much so that there have have been several companies formed that "cater" to these furries needs lol. How I've come to see it after more than a decade being a fur, is that while furry is not INHERENTLY a sexual hobby that doesn't mean it doesn't exist and there's really no reason to pretend like it's not a thing. I think people need to quit worrying about what people do in their own private time (keyword PRIVATE) and mind their own dang business. It's gotten to the point where even other furries act like it's a mortal sin to say that some furs engage in sexuality... As if most adults don't do so on a regular basis. For the furry story, I'm about as sex positive as you can get, so I don't think kink is ruining the Furry fandom. What I do begrudge is the owner changing the details to allow kink-based stuff a the convention without advanced warning. That's a violation of consent, albeit a less serious one. If you ensure that child-friendly events remain child friendly as advertised, and likewise for NSFW events, then there shouldn't be a problem.

Not that I would know these days since the only convention near me went 18+ a number of years back just to not worry about such things though at the same time I haven't been to it in like 3-4 years so I dunno if it's any different these days, I don't imagine so.

Speaking as a furry artist, fursuiters WILL spend several thousand dollars on a custom fursuit just to cosplay. They're kind of a status symbol in the furry community. On a side note, it's also not uncommon to be commissioned for expensive artwork by furry customers who'll spend hundreds of dollars on just a few pics. When it comes to a SFW vs. NSFW commission ratio...that's highly subjective to what they're asking for... ^^;

In the first story, OP should've immediately gone to HR and explained that the new hire presented a conflict of interest, and any repercussions they may have down the line could be seen as targeted due to their family's history. HR would more than likely spring into moving the new hire to a different team because otherwise that's a lawsuit waiting to happen.

i think im more on the wavelength of the boyfriend in the furry story. i have two sonas, a dragon and and owl, but they're not like. me. they do represent me in a way, ill draw the dragon in clothes i'd like to wear and i'll use the owl to represent myself if im making a comic about something funny that happened to me, but they also have different names and kinda... exist in the same 'universe' in my head. like sometimes they hang out in my comics. I think thats why a fursona is such a unique kind of original character. it blurs the line between oc and insert in a really facinating way. i know people who are cis who have opposite gendered sonas just because it represnts a small part of themselves that doesnt necessarily reflect on the full picture. now my GOBLIN sona on the other hand, is 100% me. That's literally what I look like. I'm a funny little guy who says 'hoo hee hoo' whilst carrying my little things in my little satchel.

I think I’m Furry Adjacent myself (I was more involved with the fandom until about 9-10 years ago). There’s definitely some people that are, not great to be around, for sure. Including those who refuse basic hygiene (a problem in many fandoms, and in daily life too). As others have said, most Cons tend to separate the Adult side from the rest of the events, either keeping it to the hotels, or in some cases like with Art Stalls, the dealers dens end up getting closed off so the more explicit art can be sold later in the evenings/nights, at least when I last researched a Con. There’s some genuinely good people in the community (I happen to follow some still online, and some artists too). I actually met my best friend while we were both dipping our toes into it. We still enjoy the art (I actually commission people and share the art to credit them. Was one person’s first commissioner, and about 2 years later, they’ve been adjusting thwir prices and been getting the occasional furry art commission done. Their follower count skyrocketed). It’s good that OP and her Boyfriend talked after. It sounds like they are mostly on the same page about things, and they support eachother.

Story 1: what are the odds that Jane started at the same company AND same location, which is across the county (not country like Rslash read out loud, that would be ESPECIALLY concerning) that OP works at?! I suppose if its the main employer for the county, but its likely that Jane easily could have found out where OP works from other parents at the previous school AND since her kid has a restraining order against him, OP's family may have had to inform the court (who informs Jane) where they moved (with address) to in order to ensure the kid doesn't break the order. So, really, what are the odds that Jane applied for a position at that company branch in order to seek "revenge" on OP & get them fired?! Since its the summer, what if they moved to the same school district as OP & the bully is there at the same school as OP's kid in the fall & Jane claims its "just a coincidence"?!
@BeanManolo
@BeanManolo 2 ай бұрын
The restraining order is probably the reason Jane was avoiding a background check at all costs: if she moved, specially with her son, near OP's new location and didn't informed the courts, that background check would alert the authorities and she could very well be arrested or at least added to the order herself; Also, OP said the manager before her was the one who hired Jane without the mandatory background check, and was helping her avoid it, so makes me wonder that's how she found out OP was working there: she's buddy-buddies with the former manager and he was the one who told Jane and helped her try to go after OP

the furry one... the fact she had issues with a guy in a costume doing tiktok choreo weirds me out. i totally get being uncomfy with NSFW, theres a big issue in fandom conventions of all types (furry, comic, anime, games, any fandom) where NSFW sneaks in outside designated adult spaces thanks to bad organizers or changes in organizers (people push the envelope all over again hoping the new ones are lax about it), but he was literally just dancing.

Yeah, I don't mind some of the NSFW in fandom, but it for sure has to be properly organized to keep it away from kids and people who don't want to see it. I wish most events had a separate room for it, and when you picked up your tickets you showed you were 18+, got another wrist band, and that allowed you access to said room. If consenting adults want to buy NSFW art, cool, that's fine. But the last convention I went to had the NSFW part of Artist's Alley right in the center, with a Bad Dragon booth and everything, and nothing to keep that all hidden. That's unacceptable.

@@e.vasileva5891 additionally MLP [4th generation] focused on relationship lessons. In someways it helps young men to revaluate how to form friendship post HS bs. The main characters are functionally independent adults with their own jobs, and professional goals and problems. The primary target audience is young girls, but ironically it has life advice for 20s men and women who just struggled to fit in within the modern fragmented social environment. It taught lessons which schools neglect and which may people just did not learn growing up. This is just my perspection, I watched it in UG with a few friends. TL;DR MLP was like a modern Aesop for friendship and early professional advice, much of which is not learnt in primary education.

Suit harnesses are also not inherently sexual, aside from the examples that OP saw at the meet up. Your first thought about bullying the woman back rSlash isn't great. OP could get fired because of it or get the company in trouble as well which will just help the bully's mother. OP not considering it shows what kind of kind soul they are. The bully's mother is a toxic piece of trash. The fact she didn't get her background check done is hilarious because she knew she'd be found out. She DEFINITELY has priors. My major question is whether or not she had a thing with that last manager given how much he was batting for her. The furry event thing, it can be very hit or miss. Some people just don't get on with that kind of environment and OP definitely wasn't going to enjoy it. I do think that they needed to talk more about it because it felt like OP got thrown into the deep end. After the update, it's good that they talked about it and he apologised about it. But, in my own experience, i’ve had far more positive interactions than not, and most people can differentiate between the real life and the fantasy. And let me tell you. Being comfortable enough with someone to even tell them you’re a furry is a MASSIVE DEAL. Especially with how many of us spent time repressing it to be around other people. So the fact he had enough trust in OP to not only be in suit around her, but also want to show more really says a lot. Admittedly, it can be pretty overwhelming for those outside the fandom, but the main point is that this relationship seems like it’ll be juuuust fine. Just a little fuzzy around the edges :P

Still, even if I feel icky about it, there is part of it that I love about it. The same can be said to having a furry as a partner. You may feel icky about that one part, but if you enjoy the rest of what that person is, then the answer is obvious. I don't mind if someone is a furry, not my thing, but I don't mind. So I thought, "This should be fine." It was certainly a culture shock. Like. I was able to go somewhere else in the convention center (we just had to be in the same building), but man. I'm glad for people to enjoy themselves! Something to add about furries is that it's more about the character than anything else. While you are your character, you can express yourself freely. This is also why it's a safespace for LGBTQI+ and neurodivergent people, because we don't have to mask while amongst ourselves.

As a furry, I’m surprised by how many people in this comment section are defending us and quelling any misinformation that may arise from the story. Folks are right, there’s a couple bad eggs but that’s how it is in every fandom, most of us are completely normal people and keep our weirdo sides to ourselves.

Furry here. Never take your non-furry friend/SO to a furry convention as their first interaction. You start with a local meet up and go from there. Furry is a very positive, creative community that strives to be inclusive, respectful, sex positive and LGBTQ+ friendly which means occasionally you get some people who go a bit too far for most people's comfort level. But if you keep an open mind and are honest about your boundaries, you will likely have a great time. Furries know how to party and often bring their own DJ equipment.

Is cosplaying a OC fursona really that weird of a hobby? Like, compared to every other hobby? In a very real sense, all hobbies are personal, impractical, and frivolous...so, weird relative to the rest of a person's daily activities. Fur suit hobbies aren't weirder than any other.

Honestly i think furries only get a bad rep because the majority of it is online base. Theres the bad parts of the community sure but the anime community is infested with pedos as well. Ive seen a woman cosplaying capture princess leia give a belly dance to a child before. I cant think of one fan group that doesnt have disgusting parts of it.

I haven't heard a story I relate to more until the final Furry story. I confess, I was smiling from ear to ear the entire time RSlash was reading it. He's read stories in the past about furs, but never one like this. I have been a furry for around 4 years now, and recently I was engaged to my Fiance, who's been part of the fandom much longer. We ourselves are not the typical furry couple you can expect to find in a fandom like that, but we have our own ways of enjoying it. We are both made uncomfortable by the oversexualized nature of the standard furry, but we have found it's possible to find a more wholesome and safe sides of the fandom. We both own our own fursuits, and I actually make them myself (they cost insane amounts of money, I was laughing at the end when RSlash brought out the fursuit calculator). I attended my first furry convention this year, which was actually quite a lot of fun if you know what you are doing. From there, I have discovered that with face-to-face furry meets, there is a method to avoiding the NSFW side of things. Typically, you should stay away from meets or convention times labeled as "After Hours," and of course stay away from any activity labeled as adult. Being a furry isn't necessarily as weird as most people may think it is, especially if you're on the chill side of things. We are all just normal people who have a passion for things that the fandom supports and enjoys. I am part of this fandom because of my love of sewing and drawing, which are skills highly sought after in this community. At this point, I'm really just a furry because I can make huge profits off of making and selling Fursuits. I believe my Fiance is only a furry still because me and his friends are... plus he likes dressing up as a big fluffy dragon. I can't blame him because I enjoy it too. Anyways, don't mind me, I felt like I had to say something for once. I've listened RSlash for many years, not sure how many- I didn't count, and I've always enjoyed his content. Thanks for the funny furry story! It made me smile. :)

Story 1: I can see where the bully got his behavior from. Not to mention Jane's behavior at the workplace. Makes me wonder what she did that would've been brought up during the background check. Did it have to do with the bully situation, or something in the past?

About the Furry story... "He was nervous to tell me" yeah maybe because you'd get the ick for no reason. Ffs it's so embarrassing mentioning being a furry because everyone thinks it's a fetish when IT ISN'T "he's a professional guy, not someone who'd wear silly animal outfits" bro do you know how many furries work in IT or Accounting or Law?? Fix your train of thought. I'm a furry, I've been to furry cons, thankfully ones that demands you shower and maintain your hygiene, and are also more specific about controlling the content at the con. Most furries are super lovely people, even the ones that enjoy nsfw content

Sounds like someone is pissed off about her being able to express feelings about something that she's never heard of or been to till her personal experience. She's nit judging in a way most people would be offended. She literally felt uncomfortable because it was very new to her. How wring is it to never experience something and feel uncomfortable? I know I would.

I think OP #1 really shows how important it is to get your story out there. If Jane was less stupid or the previous manager had been less sloppy in hiring her, OP might have been stuck with a malicious liar working under her. If legal action was taken between OP and Jane, HR should have been notified day ONE.

Edit: This comment should be ignored until Project FURI finishes! ---- Apparently furries are one of the most studied fandoms in the world, and one such study allegedly says that 90% of furries are into Not-SFW stuff. 5% are straight up z-phi-les, and the other 5% are the good ones, like OP's boyfriend in the second story! Though my source is TomDark's video about the drama that Ruben Sim got into.

That sounds like total bs. A lot of people into furries are actual children that just like drawing neon coloured dogs. The stats you're throwing out are definitely not true because the zoophile and NSFW enjoyers would overlap and throw off the percentage

As a furry, just to explain, it's the loudest and grossest stuff that gets advertised the most. 90% of furries are just chill people, while the other percent are gross incompetent people. So furries get a bad stigma because of these loud outliers, but they don't represent us. Secondly, wearing a fursuit to my best explanation is like going to a maacarade ball. Your entire life, your looks and personality, is put on pause. Instead of being John Doe, you're not Luparius the 111. It really helps with social anxiety because you're not talking directly to people, you're talking to a fursona. It's also a like if you're in an RPG game. No one irl would ask if they got this rare item that can kill goblins. But talking to an avatar, makes it easier. For some it is a hobby. For some it's self-healing. But for the most part, furries are just average people, wanting a breath of fresh air

My friend group are 90% Furries. Many people are kind of outsiders or introverts and have a chance to express themselves through the fandom. I came into the furry fandom 2 years ago, right after a breakup from an unhealthy relationship of 8 years. I had only one friend left, was bullied a lot in my life and I'm really bad at socialising. I met one guy online and he introduced me to a big group of furries and they were the most welcoming people I've ever met. Yeah, we are weird, but if everybody's weird, than no one is. You can be yourself and have nothing to be ashamed of. That's why I love the furry fandom and I couldn't care less what some perfectly bland normies think about me.

I can relate-ish to the boyfriend in the furry story. I don't have a fursona, no true animal self or anything like that. It's just a character to me with a cute name, like cosplaying. I just like being goofy and cute in anonymity. I keep it clean, and have a special lavender spray for the suit to keep it smelling nice. Funny story from an event I was at: A furry was handing out little plastic dinosaurs to everyone. Some people dropped them on the ground, and he kept giving me some, and I just kept sticking them in my fursuit's mouth (it's a skulldog head, and the mouth can open). I was holding one, about to "eat" it, and someone excitedly asked where I got the dinosaurs because they wanted one. I just sorta....opened my mouth and let them all loose into my hands. So it basically looked like my character spat up a handful a plastic dinosaurs. The person lost it laughing. And yeah. The head all by itself cost me about $800. The rest of the suit was $1,200. That was on the low end because the suit was used.
