This is the 3. video about the construction of a BMW R-NineT Scrambler, on which I developed some production parts.
In this episode I don't work with metal, but with fiber composite materials.
Here you can see how I make a seat base plate for a rear frame. Since this is a series part, I make it from fiberglass which is partially reinforced with carbon.
I use mainly high quality materials, which are also used in racing or aviation.
It is made with the help of a mold, the construction of this I have unfortunately not filmed, but this will certainly not be my last.

The final vehicle will be built with my friends at classicbike-raisch.de, who I've worked with for a long time, but who are also good friends.
They will use the R-NineT as a demo bike, and maybe you will see it at an event in Germany or Europe.

There are many ways to build a good mold, here I made the first seat base plate out of aluminum, filled and painted it, and then molded it. You can also mill the mold, or take the mold from a 3D printed part. There are many ways.

Beautiful seat pan. Thanks for showing such an informative video on this process. I have watched many carbon videos, but still learned from your techniques. Am I correct in guessing that the spray adhesive has to be compatible with the resin, or do you not need to worry about that? Cheers.

The spray adhesive should be compatible with the resin, For heavily loaded components I use another, which is also from the manufacturer of the resin, this is then 100% compatible with the hardener in the resin, but does not stick as well, and is much more expensive, so I use it only for structurally loaded components.

Impressive job! Is the pink/red layer between your 5th fiber layer and the orange fiber a layer to help removing this orange fiber? It should be porous also to let the resine to diffuse on your 5ea fiber layers!? (asking this because it looks like a plastic film...) Thanks for sharing all your work!

this is a spray adhesive to fix the layers.

The different layers, are twisted against each other, making the seat base plate more stable, the intermediate layer were carbon fibers to reinforce certain areas. ;)
