A lot of these bosses don't understand what it means to be a manager. You _manage._ Which means you get in and do scut work when needed. And the quickest way to lose the respect of subordinates is to expect others to do what you are not willing to do yourself. I've trained managers and one of the things I stress is, you don't ask others to do what you yourself are not willing to do. I also try to instill the philosophy of being a manager. You are going to be a manager. That means you manage. If that means you have to mop the floor yourself then that's what you do. If that means staying late washing dishes, then you do it. You manage.

Somewhere online, I saw a comic of the difference of a boss and manager. Managers lead the way, helping their workers and setting a good example through behavior. Bosses would act like dictators and order everyone to work regardless of circumstances
@kellyrayburn4093
@kellyrayburn4093 4 жыл бұрын
@@ahstiasummers5583 I've used such films in training. I always ask my trainees, "Which of these would you rather work for? Your job as a manager is to get the most out of your people as you can. Being dictatorial is counterproductive to that goal. You don't let people walk all over you, but if you treat your people with respect, only the ones who shouldn't be there in the first place will be the ones who try it."

Its true. I was a manager at a dollar general. We were always understaffed due to upper managment expecting too much. My job was to do paper work,check in trucks and vendors, and count money in and out. However, I always worked freight. I left the cashier to do register and work freight. Even when i was working freight I would still check on the cashier to make sure they didnt need help. And if they did id stop doing freight and did register with them. Really the only thing managers do is handle money and paper work.
@kellyrayburn4093
@kellyrayburn4093 3 жыл бұрын
@@destinecassady5576 Maybe that's all managers do in some establishments, but restaurant work is different. A manager must be able to do anything; including cooking, waiting tables, dishwashing etc. I don't train managers so much as I do supervisors. But most of my trainees are going to be food service managers. If it's just doing money and paperwork, then they don't need me because every establishment has their own policies concerning money handling and paperwork.

@Aamey Playz While it's satisfying to do so, don't destroy other peoples property as revenge. If you get caught, it'll spell a lot of trouble for you and if you do so as an adult, you're looking at major fines for destruction of property and can even get harassment claims filed against you. Most of these pro revenge stories are fake or severely exaggerated. If you feel the need to get revenge, do so by turning their own foul deeds against them, don't stoop to their level. The prorevenge subreddit in general is pretty harmful, being a revenge orientated person can destroy your mental health.

URGH! That story hits *SO* close to home with me! When I was working at the local college doing dishes, I was working for a catering company and... Yeah, ALL that shit? Yeah, it happens. THANKFULLY my bosses weren't as much of a jerk as they would go to one of the temp hiring companies in town and hire people when they knew it was going to be a big day for catering so that they had people to bring catering dishes into the dishroom so no dishwashers had to stop. And there were THREE normal dishwashers on those days and it STILL was crazy! And, yes, those catering dishes instantly reminded me of that time.

Now here’s one I can understand. I’m a dishwasher at a semi popular buffet. We have a big dish machine that runs the dishes through, but some of the things we wash will go through the machine and come out dirty, so we then have to scrub them by hand before running them again. For those who don’t know, a catering cart is easily large enough to have a two full grown men sit down cross cross apple sauce in it, face to face. I’m the second fastest loader we have, and it takes me about two minutes to load a fully loaded cart into the machine, though that figure jumps drastically if I’m alone, because I not only have to load the machine, but also unload it. It takes about a minute for the things I load to get through the machine and hit the stop bar that stops the machine from moving- it still sprays the cleaning water and everything, the dishes just stay in one place. It takes me about two minutes to unload the machine completely, put the dishes on the drying rack, and the dirty ones into the sink to soak until I can scrub them. On my own, to completely deal with one bin- loading, unloading, scrubbing, loading again, outing them away, it can take about ten minutes on a good day. But then there’s the bus carts full of plates, cups, and other fragile dishes. Those have three bus tubs- about two feet by 1 foot in size- that have to be sorted. Basically, I have to take out all the plates and bowls and put them on a table to be loaded into the dish machine- by hand, by me. The cups and mugs are the real problem, as they have to be loaded into a rack before going into the dish machine. This can take me about 3 minutes on a good day, then the two minutes to load and unload them. If I have two carts, and one bus cart? It can take me about half an hour to load all of them. During this time I’m guaranteed at least one more cart will come back, raising that time to ten minutes. This is all alone mind you. Add two more dishwashers to this equation and the entire process can be handled in about ten minutes. Twenty tops. Basically, I’m saying that if OP was violently screwed if she didn’t get out of there fast.

When OP described herself I related so much to her not just because of her interests in drawing, anime and video games (I'm also a music student in college...) but to her personality as well. I also found it hard to speak up for myself and I cry easily when I'm overwhelmed. I quit my highschool job because people weren't treated equally. Bosses hooked up with employees and I was being sexually harassed. I just quit without saying anything but goodbye to the manager I actually liked. But my last job working as a barista really helped me grow a backbone. Especially when I got my boss fired after I quit since I went and discussed my problems with the regional manager. After our meeting they paid extra attention to my boss and were told about how she treated the newbies she was "training" by my old co-workers. I didn't even recieve proper training I would be left in a room alone with a computer and would have to be on the floor a week after without any practice. my shifts were constantly cut when I was still in my training period. Also I was yelled at if I did something wrong on the floor she'd show me the whites in her eyes if I asked a question and it would trigger my tears, reminding me of my mom or sister when we got into fights. But now I feel much stronger as a person. I even had a talk with her the day I quit she told me she had alot of stuff on her plate as I expressed my feelings and experiences which she seemed to accept and apologized for her actions. I feel bad that she got fired especially since she was going through a rough patch in her life. However, she had time to change her ways after I handed in my resignation letter. Especially since she even got a warning from the district manager to be more professional. Now I work at one of the best jobs I could ever ask for. And with awesome co-workers and managers. I'm free to express my nerdiness and get to know different customers with the same interests making new connections everyday. I don't feel anxious about work anymore dreading every shift. I also learned that I work better in retail lol. Just felt like sharing my story I rarely post stuff in the comment section so if you read this I'm both appreciative and apologetic for it being so long.😅 Also if you're a fellow nerd and weeb I'd love to chat in the reply section and give/recieve recommendations for animes to watch!

Man that first story, if i was that exhausted (literally drenched in sweat) i’d force my eyelids to start falling (which shouldn’t be too hard considering i’d be way past my limit) and just collapse on the floor, i’d drop the tray and make sure all the stuff broke so anyone within earshot could hear it, and when they get there, they’ll see me collapsed on the ground surrounded by shattered glass, if things really go my way, i fall asleep on the ground, or i can remain conscious and if i’m being carried by people, i’d slightly open my eyes and be like, “wh- what j-just...happened...?” While i’m being walked over to infirmary or smthn, and just spill it all there, and if i’m asked what happened, i’d say something to the effect of “m-my supervisor...told me to do it all...on my own...I c-can do it all...myself...that’s what he said...”

I can relate to OP when it comes to the horrible Chad boss. I work in a nursing home and we're understaffed on aides across the board. There aren't enough kitchen aides and there aren't enough certified nursing assistants (CNAs) helping out on the floor. The good news is, in the nursing home, CNAs deliver the food trays to the patients, pick them up, and bring them back to the kitchen staff. On one of our very understaffed days, I worked my end, helped serve trays in the kitchen, left the kitchen to help an aide on the other side of the building, and then went back to the kitchen to help clean the dishes. Nursing homes and hospitals can be very stressful jobs, especially if you're any kind of aide because you're considered easily replaceable and on the bottom of the totem pole. No one appreciates you and even if you're a dime a dozen like the bosses say, there are NO PEOPLE! They don't appreciate you until you're about to quit or they're so understaffed that they might shut down.
