I know this comment is way old lol but FYI, the Viper is Mid-engine. The engine is entirely behind the front axel. Sometimes called a front-mid That's the main reason the hood is soooo long

big engine does not automatically make a driver fast. A real race car driver late on the brakes, early on the throttle and quick in the curves would have not allowed the average Cup Carrera with at least over a 100 HP lesser power playing with him. How was the R8 passing him on a hairpin where it's not easy to overtake....and somebody should explain what slipstream means on a racetrack to this Sunday driver!!!

Dan Reidy this is the part of racing the casual and intermediate fan doesn’t get. Cars like Viper, Vette have a natural advantage as race cars against most other Marques because of engine size and even tire size. If they left the big engines cars unrestricted it would wipe the floor with the competition. That’s why racing santioning organizations come up with rules and restrictions to make the racing as fair as possible. Case in point, the street Viper is much more powerful than this viper and would destroy the race Viper on any straightaway because it’s heavily restricted on the air inlet. So it cannot make full power. It’s most likely tire size restricted as well as rpm restricted. You can see it still makes good torque down low in low to mid acceleration. If that restricted was not there, this would not be a race. The Porsche’s and bimmers are restricted too but not as heavily. Good race. Shocked me to see them allow the Viper enough freedom to eat.

Devilish Idiot... He has no chance against the Viper but approves of the wear and tear and the risk for himself and others. And I don't see the driving performance of the Porsche driver as terrific, but much more that of the Viper driver who repeatedly prevented an accident that would have triggered another

End of the day it is a race, the reason he was so hard to pass, and the couple times the viper did pass he got back in front right away is because he is a good driver, not because he is faster. And since its a race, you dont get first by letting everyone pass you thats faster, if that was the case the same car would win everytime and races would be very boring to watch. This is one of the few drivers who actually gave the viper a challenge so my hats out to him

@@todd3570 like the viper driver knew where he would be at every part. He knew when to back off because the Porsche driver was following the race line. He wasn't doing anything to purposely cause a accident. While I think after a couple min where the guys still on his ass and everytime traffic causes him to fall behind then he's instantly caught up again ya you should let him pass and if your faster then you pass him again, like the r8 for example, but also, not sure on the time stamp, but at a certain point there's 4 of them all head to head, like a couple feet apart blowing through corners no one wanting to let anyone pass, is the best part of this video. Would of been such a rush and for me the true fun in racing.. just watching it put a smile on my face must of been fun for the drivers. Hold on I will find the time stamp

My thoughts exactly this guy driving is good don't get me wrong but he's very aggressive on the throttle almost pushing cars out of his way no doubt he has some skill but needs to be aware that others may not be at his same level would like to see him lap it with no one in front of him though.

Thanks you. I worked in engineering when the first one was developed, we did own a large stake in Lamborghini at that time. Maybe that's what got the parrots talking.

Every race car has a rev-limiter or it will blow the motor up. My point is the Viper could have probably gone faster if he had a better set up i.e., less down force which creates drag and taller gearing -- it's a trade off so high down force gets you through the corners faster but slows you down on the straights...

Maybe this setup was fast enough for qualy, but race is another story? You need to pass other cars and that is always easier to do on the straight. Also we don't know nothing about stability of that with lower downforce setup, sometimes it could be little dangerous or risky.

Disagree, the dodge is very poor in the corners and this circuit has many of them, they had to compromise top end speed for the corners. They test many set ups in the practice sessions and then go with the best one for the race. You just watched one clip and produce an opinion from nothing. Whereas, the team of engineers come up with the perfect set up, not through opinion but through hours of practising and years of racing on this circuit.
