when i am scolding my cats i wouldn’t be able to make my voice sound as dire and warning and loveless, and i wouldn’t want to, either. (and i don’t have to either, they usually respect tables and human food as out of bounds for them, the little cheeks) it’s unbelievably sick that someone can be so unfair and tantalizing with his very pregnant wife. his made up rules are so ridiculous, the point that she even tries to calm him down and tries to make a point with him instead of laughing at him and his stupid childish „rules“ goes to show how much he manipulated and frightened her to this point. no person in their right mind would take up with this, a lot must have been going on before this. the poor woman, she must have felt a lot of pressure to mask this disaster as a happy, functional marriage. 😢

@@zekayman Isn't that reasoning vulnerable to a selection bias or two? As in, the deaths of a parent would cut into the household wealth, which is tied to improved socio-economic outcomes. And also one of the leading causes of all relationships ending, including marriages, is money troubles... so like how could preventing a divorce help a household from having their wealth cut whenever money disputes were the problem to begin with? It's fine that you understand how to promote economic outcomes which lead to better socio-economic outcomes for the next generation, but the way you outlined it is just as much of an argument _discouraging marriages that don't include some amount of economic counseling to prevent an unstable economic pairing from ever enduring the conflict of divorce_ as it is an argument _promoting an delayed divorce w/o any economic counseling_ to promote marital stability.

So much to unpack in Steven's language. The way he talks about "discipline and respect" as if talking about a child or a dog. The way he says "watch it" in response to her calling out his abusive behaviour. The controlling aspect of not having a second car. Telling her that she needs to become someone "worthy". The self-victimisation, both in the Ring footage and his response. Hillary is so calm and she's communicating clearly and reasonably the whole time. But nothing she could say in that moment would have gotten through because abuse is not reasonable. The way Steven is responding is not a rational or proportional response to what she's saying. It's scary to see.
@alexwyatt2911
@alexwyatt2911 Жыл бұрын
The Ring camera video is disturbing (I’m so glad she has subsequently escaped the marriage even if she’s forever tied to Steven because of the children). However, Steven’s response video is equally disturbing. I’m disgusted with his delusion that he’s been victimized by his wife having the legal option of a “no fault” divorce. The reasonable inference from Steven’s response video is that he wanted to force her to remain in a marriage with him. Another speculation is that-in order to save face for his brand/audience-Steven leaned into the idea that his wife is to “blame” for the divorce that _she_ chose-not him. Both ideas can be true. He could be saving face as well as implying he wants to legally force his (now) ex-wife to remain married to him; each is monstrous. Steven’s mindset is so insanely dangerous and toxic, because he’s not just victimizing his family. He has social influence and public platforms to spread his blatant misogyny and abusive mentality.

Regarding comprehensive sex ed: Rachel hit most of the high points, but there's another major benefit that we see in kids who get comprehensive sex ed versus those who are taught abstinence-only versions: They become sexually active at an older age. Conservatives like to think that teaching young people about sex is what makes them have sex. This is untrue, and it appears that the opposite is more likely. Along with lower risks of pregnancy and STIs, kids who receive comprehensive sex ed have sex for the first time at an older age, presumably because they're more aware of the risks and pitfalls than their more ignorant abstinence-only peers.

For some reason in The Netherlands there's now a substream of people who are also getting riled up over "sexual education at to early an age will make children commit acts of sex earlier than we would want to!!!" and I continue to try and point out that even if that would be the case (which as research has indeed shown, is not the case), if those people would not rather want those children to at least have some sense of what they are doing... I use the same argument by the way when it comes to sexual education for children aged 5-8, which tends to limit itself to things like: knowing the right names for body parts, learning that there will be situations in which someone will have to touch some of them (like in a doctor's appointment) and that there are also moments at which this is not appropriate, age-related peers or not, and that it's good to teach them something about bodily autonomy. These people never seem to understand that the risks of not educating children about their bodies at a young age risks them being unable to voice the possibility of sexual abuse happening to them because they literally don't know or are not using the right words against an adult that they might trust and tell about what happens. (Those same people are also unfortunately the same kind who are now believing the trans-panic thing in my country as well, and have reasoned that all trans people are pedophiles, and trying to point out to them that this is dangerous because it not only risks more harm being caused to transpeople, it also causes a huuuuge risk that if they indeed teach their children that kind of moral, these children might focus so heavily on "who looks a bit different" that the person with actual wrong intentions who "doesn't look like a trans" is capable of doing actual damage. This unfortunately is a viewpoint that rarely ever comes across.)

It has always seemed fairly intuitive to me that this should be the case. An obviously dishonest, Mean Girls style "You *will* get pregnant, and you *will* die" is simply not something that deserves much consideration or thought. I just want to point out something. Steven, my husband and I did not wait till marriage we did shack up with each other we did live with each other for 4 years prior to us getting married. it was absolutely inconsequential to our relationship. It didn't affect us in a negative way whatsoever. We could see each other and hang out with each other as often as we wanted to. We spend our time supporting each other and strengthening our relationship and ensuring that the other person was the person we wanted to stay with. You can use team-building exercises to strengthen the team but more importantly to see if that team is going to be successful. Sometimes, no matter how hard you try that team just isn't an appropriate fit and it's never going to work out. Us living together and working together showed us that we had an effective team. Steven you are a year older than the both of us but we still got married before you did in 2010 and we are still married now. We've been together for 17 years and married for thirteen, you couldn't even last a decade because you already started divorce proceedings in 2021 and that's the point when your marriage failed. Obviously the two of you waiting until marriage didn't mean s*** because you still failed. You want to try to pretend that you have the better method but your method absolutely failed. Good job. Now, those pitbulls seem well behaved at least (when they're hanging around at home) but I really don't see what's so "traditional family values" about making your pregnant wife do physical labor like that. If a woman's job is to make baby (ick) then why wouldn't her task while she's in the final stages of that to...sit on the couch and do nothing? Pregnant women have enough problems with sore feet and ankles without dragging around two dogs for an hour. Also, he is such a pos. If you are surprised now you clearly were under the impression that it's much better if someone is a blatant racist, misogynist and transphobe on camera, but that having that same behavior off-camera is the real crime..." I was mostly also really appalled about how "concerned" he is for the safety of his children which next to the fact he didn't care about the toxin he wanted his wife to handle is also pretty apparent from the fact that if it is his children, it's really important, but if it's other people's transchildren, they need to be taught a lesson (bomb threating a hospital that obviously doesn't treat just transchildren alone, threatening parents, teachers, doctors with jailtime and fines and removal from medical care by revoking the license of doctors and teachers). It's just so pathetic that his children deserve "safety", but no other child that does something or has parents that allow it to do something that does not align with his world view is allowed the same thing. Underneath some video's, I've previously (before this came to light) been trying to point out to people that someone who as the adult man he is is so venomously hating transchildren, stops being a bully, and is actively a monster. It turns out that could not be further from the truth. Again, not surprised, but I'm afraid there will be people defending him regardless...

He clearly doesn’t even view women and his own former wife as a real person, along with anyone who isn’t a cis white male like himself. What horrified me the most was his statement following the divorce where he summed up the situation as “him choosing wrong” the complete lack of awareness and accountability for his own wrong doing and shifting the blame to his ex wife that she was simply the wrong choice just shows how much of a disgusting narcissist he is. I guess the right choice for him would be someone who isn’t able to hold him accountable and is entirely submissive and removed from his horrible personality, character, and abuse. It has been years since I last felt that sting, and this isn’t even the first time I’ve seen the Crowder argument vid, but for the first time in by now some years, I felt ice in my veins. What a legacy to leave to a son. Hopefully he gets help, like my father did. My father is a good man who had been warped and calloused by a world that told him his mental health didn’t matter, and that how he dealt with his mental health didn’t matter. He got help because beneath the disgusting man I knew for most of my life there was a scared boy who believed he had to suspend his empathy. For Crowder, suspension of empathy is a virtue. I hope he gets help, but for these people there is no moving on unless they cast off the fascist mind disease that nearly took my father away from me from drug abuse and that could have taken my mother away, could have made me take my life. I don't want to be part of any group, circle of friends or organisation where the pressure is on me to be married, not married, dating, have children and so on. It's my life not theirs to live. It's why I walked away so often from people, workplaces, social groups and organisations. Being celibate isn't always detrimental to your mental health if that's what you choose for yourself. I had female 'friends' who put pressure on me to have casual sex because I wasn't in a relationship. I didn't need them in my life. Much of it was because they were consuming pornography in order to keep up in their sex lives with their lovers, boyfriends or husbands. Mainstream media through pop songs, celeb stories in newspapers and magazines and rom coms are also responsible for pushing romance and relationships onto people by saying that a certain person has 'found happiness' meaning that they had found a partner. But somebody could find happiness by finding good friends, finding a dream job, getting a pet or buying a house in a neighbourhood they like to live in.

This situation is horrific. My husband and I have been 5 years married. We married young and fast and we got a lot of backlash, we dismiss it because we knew people married young and old, that didn’t work out , also people that married soon or after many years of dating, that didn’t work out. So we understood trends were trends and we weren’t just an statistic. The reason we knew our marriage was going to work is because we communicate often and honestly about everything, we knew each other really well, our values , our differences, our hopes and dreams, our boundaries and ways of communicating with each other. We’ve seen together the crowder situation and we were shocked, even in a big disagreement we will never talk to each other that way. “I don’t love you” “watch it” “wifely duties”… horrible

I got married to my wife 31 years ago. I married her because I love her. She married me because she loves me. We lived together for three years before we got married. I knew that I wanted to spend my life with her and I still know this to be true. We chose not to have children much to the frowning dislike of my mother who wanted her ‘grand children’ and took me to one side to inform me of my ‘duty’ to the family!! I tried to explain to her that this would never happen and was treated like some failure for not producing. I married my wife to ‘live and be with her’ and to my family this does not compute. My mother actually said to me: ‘who will go to your funeral if you don’t have kids?’ My response was - ‘I don’t care who or who doesn’t go to my funeral’ as I am an atheist. I didn’t marry her so that she could produce children. We committed to each other and no one or nothing else. We are very happy together. I’ve split from my mother who just couldn’t accept that I was happy with my life loving just one woman.

Thing is... I have a father who has issues with his temper, and whose actions might sometimes be verbally/emotionally abusive. And sometimes he'll focus on something like Steven here. He'll start with the idea that someone has to do something, and he'll keep insisting on it and get enraged -- no matter how valid their reasons not to do it, no matter if it can be done at a better time, no matter if they aren't the best person to do it. And when I'm around him, to some degree I get like that too, and I hate it about myself so much -- and when I'm away from that apartment with him, I never, ever feel like that. It's so terrifying to me that people take a man like that seriously instead of acknowledging that he needs a fuckton of therapy and that he hurts people around him.

If they were to get their wish to get no-fault divorce abolished, then there’s no protection for women who cannot leave a husband who acts however he wants because he knows she can’t leave him. There’s no incentive for him to be a dutiful & worthy husband. At least now, a woman has an out whenever she wishes which is the consequence for a husband not holding up his end of the contract.

Steven Crowder is a terrible human being! I was scared for his wife when he was yelling at her and followed her into the house at the end of that video! Him complaining that she doesn't do her "wifely duties" as well as saying that she needs to be a "worthy wife", asking her "How does she respect the man", and telling her that "she needs to have discipline and respect". I mean the woman was 8 months pregnant, for God's sake! Also, I'm asexual and aromantic. Thanks for the "if you never want to have sex in your life, that's ok!" bit! I don't want to ever get married and I'll probably die a virgin! I tried kissing men and women and didn't like it, nor did I like touching people! That's why I think it's so important to experiment! I always had romantic and sexual fantasies about characters from my favorite TV shows, and I couldn't understand why I didn't like men or women in real life, but eventually, I understood that I am on the spectrum of asexuality, where I like the platonic idea of love and have a healthy libido (so, I'm thankful for sex toys)!

Even there's people that is defending him saying we don't know the "context" i'm quite sure that a bigger frame would make him look even more of a douche than he already is.

It's really funny how he's directing everything towards women. The woman shacking up with someone before marriage is a harlot but the men are just normal??? He isn't saying anything about the men but if he's talking about a heterosexual relationship there's a man and a woman shacking up prior to getting married but he has no commentary on the men only the women. Its quite funny and quite telling. Because abstinence is stupid Steven! There is absolutely no reason why you have to be abstinent. You have absolutely no justification why people have to remain abstinent until marriage so it's a stupid idea because there is no justification behind it. You know how else you can prevent STI's Steven??? Screening your partner prior to having intimacy. If you not contracting an STI is a breaking point in the relationship then you just simply end that relationship. It's really very simple. You can be an adult and ask that your potential partner doing a screening test prior before the two of you doing anything.

53:08 All I can think at the moment is how "well" ditching one's wife and child with the hope that they will suffer from his lack of presence actually turned into the escape my mom needed since despite the abuse she was still too worried that she couldn't survive without my father until she no longer had a choice. 2 years later HE was the one crawling back to Mom who by then had a sustainable and new home and at the first sign he was slipping into his abusive ways she could confidently kick him out for the safety of herself and her children. Technically she wasn't divorced until 10 years later but again that was due to her wanting to protect us from being forced to spend time with our father regardless of how we felt about it. We were never banned from interacting with him, it was always his choice on whether he wanted to visit us, however she wasn't going to put us in situations that would leave us vulnerable to harm if she can find a way to make it safer for us. We still had enough experience of what he was like for all three of us to each have our own reason not to want to continue a relationship with him by the time of the divorce. And since she had been supporting us without his financial assistance, he didn't even have to pay child support (she didn't want to spend her life "looking over her shoulder" in case he isn't able to afford to pay and takes drastic measures.) At 68, this so-called Christian man could be dead, alive, in Canada, or in Jamaica and my siblings, mother, and I would have no idea which.
