Good shit my dude! Some dumbass kid cut me off a few feet at an intersection and I accidentally stepped on the brakes entirely too quickly thus locking the front wheels. But because of Sim-Racing, I was able to stay calm and ease off the brakes in order to prevent them from skidding any further allowing me to turn and dodge the kid. Without racing simulators, I probably wouldn't have the muscle memory to ease off the brakes but rather panic, lock up the wheels and hit the dumb ass little shit. Sure, Sim-Racing doesn't allow me to know the load transfer during the initial stage of braking but the muscle memory that it allowed me to work on helped tremendously! I bought a 92 Prelude with an abs system issue. Didn't think highly of it but ever since this near-accident, I'm rebuilding my pump motor as we speak.

The last time I raced in go karts I used my gas and break at the same time in the corner am I doing something right or wrong

Mr.Twincaberetors You don’t want to be using the brake and throttle at the same time. Try to balance the two. Finish breaking right as you’re ready to start accelerating.

definitely wrong, you want to decelerate and accelerate as fast as possible, so doing both at the same time makes no sense when heading into a corner, you want to brake as late as possible and slow down to an appropriate speed as soon as possible you can then get back on the throttle at about the apex (middle of the turn)/ when the grip allows it

Depends, if youre trying to build revs then no, you can gas a little bit at the end of braking to spin the axle and get a bit of speed on exit.

if your a beginner i wouldn’t recommend trail braking in a fwd car. since there’s no weight in the rear it will slide out from under you. and if you don’t know how to control it bad things happen. just my 2 cents

I was also curious if Racing Rationalized can tell us what is the difference in braking between karts and "normal" cars and explain to us why? Thanks. Watched your videos with great interest.

The Physics are the same, most karts only have rear brakes but that isn't a hard rule. In a Kart there isn't any suspension movement or aerodynamics so you don't need to be as dynamic with your foot either.

So, by not being so dynamic you mean so can be more agressive when you are braking right? not applying the brakes so progressively as with a "normal" car, you can "slam" them without worrying to much about locking the rear tyres. I think the high downforce of the F1 cars helps you in this, at high speeds, and in the initial part of the braking process.

spatial awareness is key to judging distances, but a common trick almost every driver uses is to pick a point in your surroundings to begin braking. Braking too much? push the point closer to the turn, not breaking enough? move it back. A lot of racing is trial and error since everyone racing is a human and you simply can't calculate most things on a track. Hope this was somewhat helpful for you, have a good one. :) -RR

Power is an issue and the Weight Transfer is not as apparent as in heavier cars + You have a great amount of Grip with a go kart and down force, which means you cant lock up your tires so you don't need threshold braking.

You can lock up your tires, I have done so many times with many different karts.

dosersleeps Youd have to try really hard to lock up in go kart but idk, never happened to me while karting and probably never will

In go karts, the ones for little circuits. This technique is highly recommended

You should stab the breaks in a gokart or formula car to the point where your breaking force is near-instantly 100% (this takes time to master) and then roll off the breaks right before turning in. Then what I do is instantly apply 50% throttle as I turn in. The faster you're going the harder you can stab em due to forward inertia. I've raced Rotax DD2, Kz2 and Formula Renault 2.0.
