Motorcycle drag racing legend Larry “Spiderman” McBride avoided a Top Fuel Drag bike crash and fail when a block was thrown at him on top end, but was then stunned as he showed up at his first Mid West Drag Racing and was told he must remove the No. 1 from his Top Fuel Motorcycle, to allow Mitch Brown, who won the 2020 Top Fuel Motorcycle title to run the prestigious number. Being that the 2020 title was dubious, with Brown scoring points for showing up at an event he knew no one was going to, there was not a 2021 champion, and this being the start of a brand new series the Nitro Motorcycle legend McBride, who had won 20 titles and holds the national records by a wide margin, assumed he would be clear to run his longtime number. Instead he was told he could not race his world record holding Top Fuel Drag Bike is getting did not change his number, which drew the ire of the legendary Spiderman. Was it the right call? So a racer shows up to an event, is the only racer in the class, and is awarded the No. 1 plate...and he accepted it the accolade of champion? No pride. Larry is pure class. Clearly, he cares more about the sport and racing than a number on his bike.

When you beat the champion, you have to BEAT him. You don’t unseat the champ with a draw. Or a no show.

Thought Larry was off for surgery or something. Either way benefits happen for people who show up. That’s in any sport. It don’t change Larry’s legend status. Love both racers

Sorry to say you can put the #1 on what ever you want too. The true proof is in putting the tyre to the track. Like beating a champion who is worthy of his title by a default. Larry will always be a champion no matter what ,he is a true man .

Larry is a legend and classy. But Mitch is classy and respectful. It’s not like it’s Mitch’s first race. He’s raced for many years so YEAH LET HIM HAVE HIS MOMENT. I really think this is getting carried away. Both men respect each other and celebrated together after the race. So maybe MOVE ON

@@Alan-Godden I had the pleasure of being at Elmer's shop the year before he died. He taught me how important fuel pressure was. In a very unique way. Elmer gave me a 5 gallon can of alcohol. He started a stop watch when I started dumping the alcohol into a 55gallon barrel as fast as I could. When he got to 4seconds he said stop. I had only dumped about 3/4 of a gallon out. He said in 4 seconds I go threw 7 gallons of nitro. What's that tell you Hitech? Pressure. He winked and smiled. Next race we had a fuel pump on our Progas Bike. It finally started running the second half of the track dropping us down into the low 8sec. Picking up almost 30mph from the 1/8 mile to the 1320.

@@Hitech82 I'm in Australia, Gavin Spann had a Elmer Trett engine in his bike it was very consistent with low Nitro. He has a new engine now and is in second place in Oz with points. Gavin wanted to sell his top bike, but I guess he didn't considering he's in second place. Chris Matherson and Jay Upton are the fastest Australians. God bless Nitro. 👍🍺💥

RanZ anything can happen as everyone knows. Heck Spider-Man who I have very much respect for. Almost lost the race before Mitch’s race. JS Everyone is unbeatable at times. Spider-Man is the King and very respectful too. I didn’t mind seeing him win at all. I’m positive Mitch was happy for him too. Them guys in Top Fuel are a tight nit group. Bet NONE of them like this extra drama

Every racer had opportunity to show up right? It costs just to pull out of driveway right. If Mitch or any racer goes to expense to get to a race and no one else shows. Why should the only one that shows not win?

For sure I have yet to see Larry or Mitch be upset. They are the racers if they over it then convo is over. Social Media seems to like drama. Let’s not do this with the few Drag Bikes we got left. Really how many is there 8 or something that’s my guess. I could be way off. I LOVE BOTH TEAMS AND BELIEVE RESPECT FOR EACH OTHER IS OBVIOUS 💯

Personally I would have been ashamed to put the number one on my bike without earning it properly... Especially when I couldn't back it up and then have to give it back. Respect goes a long way but at the end, the real winner comes through. Call it karma or justice !!!

Top Fuel Bikes are so exciting to watch, it's like Top Fuel and Funny Car 25 yrs ago when it was fun to watch. Larry is such a pioneer, lots of respect Mr. Mcbride.

I felt hesitant to even make a comment on this post as my Facebook was hacked a few years ago and I haven't been in the racing world since due to lost connection with everyone. Anyways, Larry has always been the top #1 contender. It is very disrespectful to have him take #1 off his bike. All I can say is : If Mitch wants to take #1 he has to beat Larry fare and square. Oh he won the man cup race and once that wasn't recognized. Whoop de do da. Larry has busted his butt year after year and has managed to beat his own records more than once. Mitch needs to be a man and race Larry fare and square at a race as a race is ran with going round and round against all competitive racers in top fuel and not just one race. Larry has earned that #1 and he should be allowed to keep it. I think it's funny that he put 21 on his bike now. Larry be proud of having 21 on your bike cause no one else can put that on theirs. Kudos to Larry. He is #1 no matter what anyone thinks.

Had I known, I'd have entered a Honda 50 in the 2 races and capture #2 in Top Fuel. Not sure what Larry will decide in the future but it might be tempting to not put their #1 on his bike ever again. Seems like something anyone might find in a box of CrackerJacks at this point. Just win all the trophys and records and don't allow the promoters to mention #1 with his ride ever again.

Don't see how. Mitch earned the #1, by the rules at the time. Both guys have respect for one another. You don't see NHRA racers go to another sanctioned race and expect to keep thier #1 without gaining the points. Having legend status doesn't mean you're an automatic 1. Otherwise John Force would have always kept his 1.

neither run the number till a season is correctly completed, and has at least 3 bikes are over a set level minimum of points. Completing a single race gives points to that competitive team per location once

I really like drag bike racing of all classes I would hope they too fuel class could grow in participants, Larry has kept the class in the spotlight for decades much respect. We don’t need drama I appreciate the cycle drag videos but Jack is a Larry McBride fan period and sometimes is a bit biased toward him and his team. Non the less Larry is the fastest man on two wheels 👍

Where’s the interview with both these racers Then starting a big deal over it. Interview Larry did the Legend have something to say? They both looked happy and seemed to have a good time WHY START all the DRAMA. Ok Jack now you must interview both racers on their thoughts. They are the ones racing. A lot of talking from people that couldn’t ride a moped. Leave it to the racers!
