In this video we'll be testing the AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT in Avatar Frontiers of Pandora at 1080p, 1440p and 4K. We'll be using multiple presets, FSR Upscaling as well as FSR 3 Frame Generation.
The Radeon RX 7800 XT is extremely impressive in this game, especially when FSR 3 Super Resolution is being used in conjunction with FSR 3 Frame Generation!

Your work is amazing! I'm interested in buying this card and its configuration is great for testing its performance (a balanced and reasonable configuration for the value of this card). And thanks for including 1080p in the tests, this is great for getting a general idea of this card. Furthermore, it's a cool card for 1080p resolution (less definition, but more frames, could be an interesting idea).

Appreciate the video! Though due to the game forcing ray tracing it would have been nice seeing you do all the tests at the same time of day. Don't know if reloading the save each time would have made that possible or not but I'm guessing AMD is going to struggle for a while if more games come out with forced RTX.

Yeah, I didnt expect the time of day to make such a big difference and while it gives a better idea of what performance is like during multiple lighting scenarios the results arent comparable to each other. Mistake from my side, will be more accurate with the next one 👍

Do you think 7800xt is a better buy than 4070? Also is there a considerable video quality differnece between thise gpus. What would you suggest? I want plus 100fps in 1440p and I see that 7800xt struggles to do that in some games at 1440p native. I have 4k120hz oled tv as a monitor

The 7800 XT is slightly faster than the 4070 in raster, but much slower in RT. The reason why there's a difference in quality is due to the capture card settings. I leave it on default but ideally you need to select different settings for these GPUs as they default to different colour profiles when connected to the capture card. The AMD GPU automatically sets itself to YCM4:4:4, and the Nvidia GPU sets itself to RGB, hence the difference in video. If you want 100+ fps you might need to look for something stronger, like a 7900 XT or 4070 Ti. But personally I would take the 4070 Super above the 7800 XT.

that's informative. Do you use internal or external capture card? i know only now we are getting 4k120fps passthrough but the gameplay is still capped at 4k60fps. Also which do you prefer rb or ycbcr 444? I like 444 sdr on my oled. Also how much colour bit depth do you get on both video cards? I am assuming we'll get 12bit 444/422/rgb on all cards pretty much on 4k120hz+. I want to record 4khdr60fps gameplay in the future as well. If the prices of 4070 super drop i'll get it. @@Mostly_Positive_Reviews

The Super is pretty good at its MSRP. I unfortunately dont have an OLED monitor, so I just use sRGB on my daily. But via the capture card you can see that 4:4:4 really has good color distinction, although that is because the color settings on the capture card is set to full. So the AMD GPUs that default to 4:4:4 has better color in the recordings as I need to change it to limited when recording Nvidia GPUs. I can obviously also set Nvidia to 4:4:4 and it'll look the same, but when you swap GPUs 3 times a day it slips the mind more often than not :(

Oh, and color deoth on both when connected to the capture card is 10bit, but it also calculates the external monitor's capabilities as I have it set to "Merged". The monitor connected is an LG 4K HDR 60Hz 27" IPS panel.

i have 7800 xt with 16gb ram but the cpu is i5 8th gen. was hoping i will get smooth 60fps in 1080p high and ultra but t seems the machine is struggling

Yeah, an 8th gen i5 is unfortunately going to hold back this GPU quite a bit.

@@Mostly_Positive_Reviews on 1080 p high and ultra settings i was getting 45-60 fps and lows were of 20s vsync on still gpu was hiting 70 degrees temp and utilisation was 70 percent

That kinda sad that +500€ card can play 60fps without frameshit only on medium. In 2024, 300€ entry level card should play all games 1440p medium like 50-60fps.

Well, this game uses quite extensive ray tracing, and pretty much all games require upscaling when using RT.

I hear you. FSR 3.1 is coming soon and is reportedly much improved. Unfortunately, most games that use ray tracing will require some upscaling for a decent frame rate.
