Here's an update to my 2014 video about RC equipment for rubber powered airplanes. Although some products have gone out of production, I was happy to find that there are still several light receivers and servos that are readily available. Note: I say g/cm a few times for the torque, but I mean kg/cm throughout (I get it right later in the video!). Get a rudder on your fin (I like rudder-only for rubber power), get a receiver, servo, and battery (and transmitter if you're just starting), and get out and fly!
Here are the websites mentioned in the video:
hobbyking.com
microbirds.com
aeorc.com
lemon-rx.com
Products mentioned in the video that are available (weights with the plug are shown in the video):
Receivers:
From HobbyKing: OrangeRx R410X DSMX 2.4Ghz receiver, metal pins, listed as 2.7g
From Lemon: Rx DSMP 6-Channel Receiver, no pin, listed as 2.47g
From Microbirds: RX42-D Micro DSMx Receiver with Brushed motor Esc, 1mm jst plugs, around 0.9g
- they also have some 2 gram receivers that look comparable to the HK and Lemon receivers
From aeorc.com: RX14 Mini Receiver, looks similar to the Microbirds RX42-D receiver
Servos:
From HobbyKing:
- the HK282A or HK-282AS ultra-micro servos, 1.25 or 1mm plugs, weight listed as 2 or 2.2g, .075kg/cm torque at 4.2v
- the HK-5330 or HK-5330S ultra-micro servos, 1.25 or 1mm plugs, listed as 1.9g, looks like fairly high torque, the 5330S lists torque at .17kg/cm at 4.2v
- the HK-5320 or HK-5320S ultra-micro servos, 1.25 or 1mm plugs, listed as 1.7g, torque is .075kg/cm at 4.2v
From aeorc:
- the Xservos in the video, which are 1.7g, or 2.0g, or 2.5g (and up) servos, great servos, torque looks good, .065kg/cm at 3.7v, .075kg/cm at 4.2v for the 1.7g servo and higher for the heavier servos.
- they also have some 2 gram servos that look comparable to those mentioned above.
From Amazon:
- do a search on amazon for Kpower servos, the WK-P0025 is 2.5g, has a metal pin plug and good torque for larger planes, listed at .7kg/cm at 4.8V!
