An excellent song from Nicolette who I met twice...and then her brother from Montana, the night of her Memorial at The Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, near Los Angeles, CA on February 20/21, 1998. I tried like HECK to promote this song back in 1980 while I was working in AM radio at the time, but unfortunately, it never got beyond the "Bubbling-Under-The-Top-100" section of Billboard Magazine and pretty much all three singles released from "RADIOLAND"; "Ooo-Eee", "How Can We Go On" & the title song "Radioland", never reached the "coveted" Top 40. "RADIOLAND" was produced pretty much in the same very style of her first two albums, "NICOLETTE" & "IN THE NICK OF TIME" which did pretty well. "RADIOLAND" was even produced by the same producer, Ted Templemen, known for his "slick-bag-of-tricks-&-lavish-production-skills"; he had GREAT UNBELIEVABLE SUCCESS with the first few Van Halen albums he produced, however I just REALLY, REALLY feel, after being in the radio broadcast field since the 1970s, that Warner Brothers did VERY LITTLE to properly promote this album. Her promotional appearance on The Merv Griffin Show that year, where she sang "RADIOLAND" live (NO lip syncing) with a full band, lead by Andrew Gold, was mixed poorly and did the song no justice at all. The Warner Music Group, needed to step alongside her with some heavy weight promotion, including booking her for numerous radio station interviews; even a HUGE billboard atop Sunset Boulevard would have done the trick! Obviously, Warners did not pay proper attention to God's gift to popular music; NICOLETTE LARSON. It sounds like something that may have been written with "The Boss" or Neil Diamond in mind. It still scored a minor hit for her, once it appeared on a movie soundtrack. Anyone remember which one that was?

Song written by Sumner Mering for his band in 1978. I think his version is better.... sumner.bandcamp.com

Never heard this song until I found this recording you posted. I love Nicolette, but I'm not sure this was the best showcase for her voice.

That's odd, I heard it BEFORE it was even released, on a white label, promotional 45RPM, radio station only copy...in 1981, being in the broadcasting field my whole career. Her longtime producer, Ted Templeman was trying to go for a harder rock-pop edge on the "Radioland" album and even though Templeman's production technique was always slick, polished and top-notch...as he was with the albums he produced for The Dobbie Brothers & Van Halen, it was later discovered, that Larson's true kinship was with a more "country love ballad pop sound", hence her mid 80's MCA country albums and collaborations with the genre. Her last album, was an incredible lullaby recording for babies, toddlers & young children in 1994. Unfortunately, that proved to be her last; Nicolette passing away in December of 1997. BCRadio

@@BolsaChicaRadio I do wish I'd been into her music back then; I was too much of a rocker to pay attention. Would have loved to see her in concert....sigh.

@@kenklein9228 Thanks Ken for the reply, after all this time! Much appreciated! I sort of updated my comment in this thread; corrected some typos and added a wee bit more facts about Nicolette. BCRadio

Sounds like they were trying too hard to get a hit single, but it's missing that certain some thing that makes a song a hit.
