In the last month, of the Lightning in RAF service.
And on the 30th June 1988.The final pair of Lightnings F.6's flew to Cranfield, the last RAF Lightning flights, and the last Lightnings to take-off from Binbrook.

This video brings back so many memories of Gutersloh, 1970/72. The Lightnings were just there, every single day. Photo's were forbidden in those days (except for the "duty spy" at the end of the runway🫣😉)....Happy days 😊

I was there between 85 and closing in 88 working in LTF on the BAe upgrade team, great days working on a great aircraft

Brought back some great memories. Spent some of the best days of my life at Binbrook especially at crash gate 3. Brought a tear to my eye watching this. How i used to take seeing them for granted now i miss them so much. Thanks very much for sharing and bringing back some happy memories. Happy days.

There will never be another interceptor as fast or as manoeuvable than the English Electric Lightning. She was beautiful.

I remember being parked up there with the grandparents standing on the fence and waving to the pilots as a kid..they always waved back..

Sadly never got the chance to go to Binbrook. was planning to go only to find it had been closed down.

An epic aircraft. I wonder what would have become of a radar nose, SARH missiles, more fuel (somehow) and adjustable Phantom style intakes.
