Back when Britain was still something to be proud of…… Nostalgic as much as it is sad.

Great to see the reminder of the aircraft we once had protecting our country. Thank you. Over 60 years of going to the airshows, I feel sad at what we no longer have.

I remember watching the Lightning at airshows, a real show stopper, and filling the crowds with pride. What the hell has now happened to our nation?

I did RAF Linton in 81' with 2050 SQN ATC.2 jaguars, 2 lightenings and plenty of jet provost all week. The lightenings were the highlight of the week! My flight covered runway duty through the night landings as they had a night exercises on. Spent 2 days down the road at Church Fenton too! Superb times. Thanks for the video, amazing.

Church Fenton was our local base. But it was a Jet Provost training base, with the occasional Passing Out Parade on

Was at the last last Lightning show. Despite the terrible weather they put on an amazing show. Had never seen so many in the air together. Can’t believe the apparent lack of security back then. Great nostalgic trip back to happier times.

I was there for the air show. There was a lot of wet camcorders there. In those days you could rent them, as they were still expensive to buy. So I bet there was some difficult conversations on return. Regarding security I did an American air base air show in the 90`s. And the crowd line was behind a tall chain link fence. Even though we were on the base !

I displayed the Puma helicopter the day of the last Lightning Show. Very heavy rain. My late parents had bought tickets for the air display, the only chance they would have had to see it. The coach got stuck in the very heavy traffic and only got as close as ten miles away.

Wow, this brings back memories, many happy hours at Crash Gate 3 watching Lightnings, and occasional visiting Jaguars, Harrier GR3s and Tornado GR1s amongst others.

Good stuff. One occasion in particular, maybe 1976, went on a trip with Market Rasen youth club in the evening. From the control tower we watched lightening taking off. Spectacular with after burners lighting up. A constant presence in the skies growing up in Rasen, along with the Scampton Vulcans.... little wonder I'm a sucker for 'planes!

Thanks for another RAF Binbrook vid, this must have been near to the end of the Lightning in RAF service, what a sad site all those Lightnings are awaiting the scrapman. Im presuming the ones we see flying in this are practising formation flying for the final day? I also see the F-111's about again, they seemed to use Binbrook a lot, 1985 to 1992, i lived 10 miles from Upper Heyford, great memories!

The final pair of Lightnings flew from Binbrrok on the 30th June to Cranfield. For the Arnold Glass collection. I have another video from 16th May 1988. With the 4 ship formation on as well

I saw these fly at Leuchars, several years in a row. The lightning was an amazing sight at full speed, low level, close to Mach 1, etc, what a jet. They dont last long, gone inside a lifetime.

Ten airframes ready for the scrapper. The last two lightnings free to taxi at least locked in at Bruntingthorpe.

In the late 80s noticed many were parked up outside Preston. Think they were returned from Saudi. Early 90s Warton used F6s with over wing tanks as Targets in Radar Development

Around that time there was a lot of talk that Binbrook should be turned into a museum. Or even a Bruningthorpe type set up. It`s a shame the bruntingthorpe events have finished now

@@251hanomag Here’s a sad one. Go to Mr Hewes tank restoration u-tube site. They are at Bruntingthorpe among the the aircraft that were used for the fast taxi runs before it was turned into one gigantic car park. I do think that their intention to run the engine’s of the Victor are a bit over enthusiastic however. Does anyone know the fate of the two Lightnings that were kept in the QRA sheds. There is one semi covered among the other aircraft but I don’t think it’s either one of those. All the best. Happy Christmas. Mick

@@mickboakes7023 Yes the Lightning preservation group are still there in the QRA sheds. And still do occasional engine runs. It`s a shame a lot of the other groups had to re-located elsewhere. And the scrapping of the Super Guppy

What happens to the braking parachutes post landing, at 13:50 it seems to be released off camera. If this is normal, does it not end up blowing loose around the airfield ??
