You captured some amazing details there Jay. Thanks for sharing. Those last buildings you explored were the locker/drying rooms where the flying equipment was dried out and then stored. The sloping roofed building on the end with the chimney was the boiler room with a big hot air blower fan that fed hot air into the smaller drying room. The complex of small buildings you explored with the farm machinery were the flight and squadron huts.

Those squadron huts is that were the pilots go for their briefings and flight data or accommodation sleeping rest areas. Thanks David

@@AdventuresWithJay Pre-briefings for squadron officers maybe but the main briefing would usually be held in one of the larger buildings - a 24ft Nissen or a 28ft temporary brick building like the one you explored right at the end Jay. The 3rd building in a locker/drying room complex (the one furthest from the boiler room) would commonly be used for briefings (last one you explored). It would originally have been joined to the other 2 with a covered annex (you can see the broken walls in your video). In this way the men have the briefing and then exit through the locker room (middle building) to pick up their kit before getting on the trucks to the flight line. The small squadron and flight offices you explored would be the offices for the squadron commanding officers and their admin personnel and would be where squadron paperwork would be done. Could be used as a hang out between missions too I guess. Thanks again for taking us to these places.

I used to live in the next village and explore this place quite a lot as a kid in the late 70's, only 6 or 7 years after its closure. One of the best finds was all the keys to every building on the camp, which were in the guardroom along with a calendar with the date 02 Sep 1972 encircled.

Some of the furniture and fixings look original and would be antiques now, of course. Awesome buildings. We have a lot of those domed quanset huts on abandoned military sites here in the US as well. LOL! That sheep was keeping an eye on you! Awesome place. Thank you.

Switchgear at 30.40 is main electrical intake substation,ie point at which local electricity company provides supplies to the site.. Unfortunately not WW2,more mid/late 60's,Ferguson Palin switchgear . Interesting video, bought back memories of too many days/nights spent maintaining/operating systems of this type on various aerodromes. Thanks for sharing.switchgear.

No problem. There were only pics to display my video. Had a few phone issues. Glad for the feedback. I’ve explored a few airfields over the years and brought back many memories for other people. That’s a real positive for me and reason I love what I’m doing if it’s helping someone else

May God bless those RAF fly boys. My deepest respect and admiration for those Gentlemen. I'm sure most of them have earned their final set of wings. May God rest their souls. This was a cool exploration Jay. Was this base completely abandoned or does the state still own it ?

Wheels on the cart at 18.25 definitely look like aircraft balloon tyres, hubs reminiscent of Spitfire etc.

Such a shame that they demolish british wartime history. I bet most if repaired could be repurposed
