except that these friendships get put on the back burner and basically aren't showcased at all, just told. especially in s3, so that doesn't count. people loved s1 because they didn't just care about coupling people up and one type of dynamic (that is forced as well). it does kind of say that because kiara had to "be" in some capacity or another with *every* single one of her guy friends to stay "friends"??? how does that make sense? and how is it somehow romantic and a win that she's now with jj, the last guy on her list? i think her staying with no pogue on pogue macking for all them would've been a much stronger (and logical) character move than whatever this was. she cherished a solid group of friends and she didn't want to jeopardize that by changing the group dynamic and causing awkward tension.

Rafe and Sarah have always had issues so I doubt they were close lol, whenever Kie talks about Rafe it’s always w/ disgust. I think bc Sarah and Kie were so close Rafe would just see her around his house.

@@JustUs It doesn’t though. JJ and Sarah are friends with no romantic feelings. To me John B and Kiara don’t count because after the kiss they realized they didn’t like eachother like that. Even pope and kie. They hooked up but never dated eachother. JJ has liked Kiara since season 1 but as he said “I have tried and that door is locked”. He always backed off because of that but he still liked her. An example would be how jealous he always got when she kissed another or when she asked John B if he told JJ about their kiss. Their have been little moments but they were there so it’s no too forced as you guys think and the show still shows guys and girls can be friends

JJ and Sarah treat eachother like brother and sister and would do anything for eachother and they never once showed romantic feelings. At all. Another example can be Cleo with the boys. She just joined but you can already see the amazing friendship blossoming

I liked Kie with John B. the most, but Pope and Kie weren't a bad match at all on rewatch (I'd rather them than JJ and Kiara.) They had some cute moments together, and I saw the potential. It's a shame how the writers ruined all of this and put Pope through so much unnecessary heartache just so they could give Jiara shippers what they wanted. If the creators stuck with their original plan to make Cleo and JJ a couple, then Pope and Kiara's relationship probably would've had an actual fighting chance to grow and come into its own.

Pope liking kie was pretty obvious but the fact that she rejected him and explained why she couldn’t see a future w him was making sense to me. Bc she never seemed into him at all but when she kissed him, i personally saw it as her feeling bad for him bc he’s her bff and was and is always so sweet to her so she wanted to give him a chance but the feelings weren’t there which lead to her telling him she thought they were better off as friends.

I was merely voicing that I don't think they made a bad couple on paper, and they didn't when you actually examine their characters. They were both sensible and often portrayed as the parental-like figures of their friend group and helped their friends keep their heads on straight. They both enjoyed partaking in intellectual discussions and had niche interests that they were very passionate about: Kie with her environmentalism and Pope with forensics. Kie's also someone who needs structure and balance in her life and with Pope being the grounded individual that he is, I think he could've provided that for her and helped her in a lot of ways. I could see Kie doing the same with Pope due to her being a risk taker and possibly inspiring courage in him. Therefore, I don't agree with you that they didn't make any sense together. They were similar but also different in ways that complemented the other person. Kiara seemed like she was forcing herself to like Pope in S2 because by that point, the writers decided that they were going to focus on Jiara insead because that's what they believed the fans wanted. Of course, their relationship was going to feel off because the writers were deliberately doing everythig in their power to phase them out and set up Jiara. Before this derailment, however, they weren't a bad couple at all (at least in theory since we weren't shown much of them before S2) and had immense potential together. JJ and Kiara had less scenes togther in S1 than Pope and Kiara did, and it was mentioned in the pilot, I believe, that Kiara rejected JJ and had no interest in him, yet that didn't stop the fandom from shipping them nor the writers from putting them together. Pope and Kie had scenes together that I found adorable and believe showcased their potential/chemistry in a positive light such as their interaction at Midsummers, that time Kie opened up to Pope about her friendship with Sarah and Pope told her that he wouldn't have to think twice about who he'd choose if he was in John B.'s shoes, and the way Kie looked out for Pope after he blew his interview and discouraged him from smoking because she knew he was only doing it because he was in a bad place mentally. Even though their relationship in S2 was an absolute trainwreck, it was wholesome seeing Kiara gush over Pope bringing trash bags so they could clean up litter together (this also showed how well Pope knew Kiara and that he cared about the things that mattered most to her), as well as their general dynamic as they worked together to unconver the Denmark Tanny/cross mystery together. Again, Pope and Kiara aren't my favorite couple, but I think if the writers had actually built them up, then they could've been really solid together. Considering that the writers originally planned for a JJ/Cleo romance, then we would've likely seen this happen. Reagrdless, I just don't like how the writers threw away all of their potential, broke Pope's heart, assassinated Kie's character (I don't fault her for being confused by her feelings, but I don't see why she had to sleep with Pope in order to figure this out; it felt like she was using him and it was gross), and caused a weird strain in JJ and Pope's friendship just so they could give into the demands of Jiara shippers.
