Yeah thats funny , because " Young singer " , but actually older than Ritchie

What Ronnie didn't mention was that the other members of Rainbow at that time were also ex-Elf members. It was basically Elf with a different guitarist (Blackmore) - but obviously with much richer music (due to Blackmore).

LOL!!! Ritchie sounds so British!!!! He's almost lost his accent living in NY for the past 30 + years. His accent and mannerisms sound so Nigel Tufnel, Spinal Tap in this interview. All in all, this was Ritchie at his artistic apex though. Good times....

I’m certain that Nigel Tufnel was largely based on Ritchie Blackmore.

indeed... especially as we know that Dio was born even before Morrison, Joplin, Hendrix, Jagger, and many other stars of that time..
@analogkid49573 жыл бұрын
Yes and many of Dio’s fans were generation x who were teens in the 1980’s when many bands emerged Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, Ratt, Motley Crue, and Dio. When Holy Diver came out Dio was roughly 41 years old. Ronnie was like 20-30 years older than much of his fan base.
@ryanjacobson25083 жыл бұрын
@@analogkid4957 Popular artists are usually at least 5-10 years older than the target teenager audience (you have to pay your dues, after all), but Dio really was an oddity for hitting his career peak after the age of 40.

Its good to hear someone from the rock community having enough confidence to use his natural accent, rather than feel it necessary to dumb down and sound like a neanderthal, because not only is that an insult to yourself, its an insult to anyone you meet.

Ritchie is famous for bullshitting interviewers. Ritchie asked Ronnie to form a band with him after Glenn Hughes insulted Ritchie's playing. This was witnessed by Raymond d'Addario (longtime Elf and Rainbow roadie). Ritchie's "old guitar teacher" was Big Jim Sullivan, lived around the corner from him. I lived in Ithaca, NY for years, right next to Dio's old hometown (Cortland, NY). I can't picture Dio in Cortland!

@andrewharper16093 жыл бұрын
Some of it perhaps. Nigel Tufnel was image wise based on Jeff Beck, Derek Smalls on Lemmy and David St Hubbins on David Coverdale. Stonehenge I think was based on a Black Sabbath set that went wrong.

@@richardherzog5405 From what I remember he actually used to go to church regularly before he passed on. But why let facts get in the way of your piss poor narrative? It's not as though you have a leg to stand on. The word hell derives from the name of the ancient Hebrew graveyard known as the Valley of Death so unless you have a tour ticket booked nobody's going. Yahweh doesn't exist because he occupies the same place in the Jewish pantheon as Thor and Mars. Mars is a planet not a supernatural anything. Maybe that's why prayer doesn't work.
