Ahh, yes. Among all the great lengths and silly antics Rainbow goes through to make her tortoise Tank not go into hibernation, it’s really exhibiting the five stages of grief most beautifully.

"Tanks for the Memory" is one of my favorite season 5 RD episodes! It was understandable that she didn't want Tank to hibernate, And all the stuff she tried to do to make sure he didn't may have only delayed the inevitable but it was still heartbreaking to see RD cry her eyes out over Tank leaving. As for "Appleoosa's Most Wanted" Trouble Shoes instantly became a fan favorite character for many, And of course some found him to be sympathetic due to the fact that he may have been clumsy and accident prone, But he wasn't really a bad guy all he wanted was to join the rodeo. But the citizens of Appleoosa were very dumb in this episode, Especially the sheriff. I mean none of them ever took the time to actually get to know Trouble Shoes nope instead they immediately brand him a criminal all because he unintentionally caused a few minor accidents. I mean things may have worked out in the end but it was still stupid that they never let Trouble Shoes explain himself.

Horse shoes are a symbol of good luck, however how it is displayed changes its meaning. A horse shoe "pointing up" Keeps the luck in the she shoe. It's why most places like stables and such has a pointing up horseshoe in front of the entrance, to keep the luck in the building/stable so to speak. A "downward pointing" horseshoe means that the luck is running out of the horseshoe. So a downward pointing horseshoe over a door pretty much means the luck is falling down on who ever is walking under it, but not to the building. Or at least that's what I was told as a child.

Two wonderful episodes. First the 'Five stages of Grief" episode, yeah things don't hit quite as hard given Tank is only hibernating, but at the same time, this is Rainbow Dash... she takes things to the extreme. But they did an amazing job at showing a character go through those stages and have the big 'death of a loved one' type ep, without making things dark and actually killing off a pet/character. Then we have the CMC ep where we see a side of Cutie Marks we never really explored before.... what if a Pony (yes he's a Pony just an usually large one) has a negative view of their Cutie Mark? And yeah, the whole 'well he should be a clown' being not exactly what he wants and potentially degrading has been brought up, but it does seem once he gets used to it, Tourbleshoes is actually all for this. Plus, clown training can actually really help him as a big part of that is learning how to properly pratfall and do the sort of stuff that Troubleshoes ends up doing, but safely.

I remember the rainbow episode making me so sad when I was younger, I guess the death metaphor got through to me. The cmc are pretty great to help a grown man to reevaluate his life’s purpose.

In real life, it's kinda like the rectangle square thing. All ponies are horses, but not all horses are ponies. So yeah, a pony is in fact a horse(they are the same species), but you can't say the other way around.

It could be cool if they did, but I think having them this way is so much more powerful. Okay so.... as an actual equestrian I'll explain a few terms because things so often get confused. Horses and ponies belong to a single designated species of Equus Caballus. So, despite the wide range of colours shapes and sizes, similar to dogs, they're all one species. We as humans decided to split them up. Horses are of the designated species standing above 14.2 hands. Hands High (hh) is how we measure horses for some reason, we do have measurements in cm but you'll hear it a lot. Ponies, similarly are of the species standing less than 14.2hh .... in general. There are some specific breeds that are exceptions to this rule but that's getting to the more complicated stuff. Ponies in generall tend to have shorter legs and a stockier build in comparison with their height, but this is a very loose defining feature. Now, about fillies, colts etc. This is kinda where people might get lost.... so I'll summarise based on biological sex Any horse or pony less than 1 year old is called a foal. Occasionally they may be called a filly or colt but to prevent confusion they're normally designated a foal up until a year old. Beyond this, females at 1 - 3 years are called a Filly, after 4 they're called a Mare Similarly, males between 1 - 3 years are called a Colt, from 4 years on they are a Stallion. Wiiiiiiiith one exception that will not be discussed in MLP. A male horse is typically gelded as soon as possible if it's known that he is not going to be kept intact. Stallions can be difficult to handle and can have a poor quality of life, so more often than not they are neutered, at which point once they've had the snip, they're called a Gelding. A bit of an info dump but I hope it does clear some of the terminology up for you

Hamsters, bats, hedgehogs, frogs, some squirrels, groundhogs of course, snails, lemurs, chipmunks, prairie dogs, dormouse’s , snakes, ladybugs, butterflies, some fish, moths and toads are other animals that hibernate that aren’t bears and turtles :))

Someone probably commented this already or you’ve looked it up by now but you were pretty much right. Ponies are basically smaller horses, and the two can even be bred, making things like POAs (Appaloosa horse x Shetland pony and other breeds). A filly is a young female horse or pony and a colt is a young male horse or pony, with foals or yearlings being the catch all for them (but of course MLP characters age differently so the CMC are like 8-12 year olds while being somewhere physically between a foal and yearling).

The Tank episode was an innovative way to explore grief in a children's cartoon. As for the sunglasses, you don't get much snow where you live. Snow-glare is a thing and can be blinding. A foal is a baby horse (or pony). A filly is a female foal; a colt is a male foal. Got it? Trivia: Zebra are more closely related to donkeys than to horses (not that Zecora was in either of these episodes).

B/c all the luck drains out through the ends since they're pointed down. At least that was how I always heard it.

Me watching this episode when it's only 2 days until Christmas

As someone who get attatched to things very easily, rainbow dash’s feelings over tank leaving even for just a bit, it’s easy to get super emotional. EDIT: the second episode is to show what the cmc want to work on, instead of always worrying about what they will get, they help others understand the true/hidden meaning behind their mark. Helping is what they essentially what their destiny’s are. This will come to fruition at some point!

Not all tortoise need to hibernate, but many species do and can even get sick if they're not allowed to do so, as it is a part of their natural life cycle. A sick tortoise on the other hand shouldn't be hibernated, because it might not survive it. It's important to get the tortoise back to health first. It is a common practice to hibernate your pet tortoise in the refrigerator over the winter :)

As a born 'n' bred hoosier...sunglasses in winter is a must. Sunlight reflects off of the snow, causing snow blindness. For those that do a LOT of winter sports, sunscreen is also needed.

I haven't finished the whole video just yet, but just to clear this up. A filly is a young female pony (a girl), a colt is a young male pony (a boy), and a foal is baby pony in general. Horses and stallions (grown males) seem to be interchangeable, mares are grown female ponies.

This episode with Tank is more relevant than ever for me now. Yesterday my cat was diagnosed with FeLV. There are only two options: euthanize him or keep him alive with medications and keeping him inside a house which is hard since he loves to go outside and now its heartbreaking to watch him asking me to let him go outside. All that will make him live two more years. Maybe a little bit more or less then that...I dont know what to do right now...
