Thank you for watching this video. It is always vulnerable sharing personal details of my life on a public platform but it is especially intimidating sharing things related to my family because I want to protect them and I anticipate getting weird comments either related to the topic of homosexuality or the topic of Christianity. Both tend to be polarizing and the internet is a strange place where people act like it is okay to be mean, though it is unlikely they would actually say anything at all in real life. After filming this video earlier in the week I had a few anxious nights where I considered not posting it at all because I feared what kind of response it would get. I also realized there is a lot more I would love to share but didn't have time. Maybe I can put more details in a second video. I suppose it depends on how much you guys care about this topic.
In the video I said that my parents separated in the 3rd grade, which is true-ish, but my other mom was in my life since the 1st grade. So for me she has been a maternal figure since I was 6 or 7 years old and my younger sister was 4. I am sharing that because sometimes people say I don't have full picture of being raised by two moms because I was "older" when my mom began living a gay lifestyle. I also have a dad because my mom was married to a man before she was with my other mom, and I have brothers because my other mom was married to a man before she began living as a homosexual. My moms are not my only gay family members, I have two aunts who are also lesbians and some distant cousins who are gay. I'm pretty sure one of my cousins is trans, though now that I am typing it I don't know if he is my real cousin or my half brothers cousin. I have a half brother too, who I did not mention in this video, but he is from my Dad's first marriage.
For those who are asking about my Christian beliefs and how they affect my view of my family or homosexuality in general here are some books, podcasts, videos and articles I have consumed in the last year. If we were alone over coffee and speaking from the heart I would invite you deeper into my story, but since this is public and not intimate I prefer to just share resources and allow you to form your own world-view. I hope more than anything that you take it upon yourself to love all people extravagantly. I can't think of a more Christ-like thing to do.

Jess, you fill my heart. I am proud to be your mom and you turned out perfectly. I’m glad I was there to help that happen. When people ask me what my favorite memories are - they always include you, Meredith, Matt and Nick. My 88 year old mom will watch this and will cry just like I did. So proud of everything you do! ❤️

I don't know if you'll feel that this is appropriate, but I would really love to thank you as a new queer mom myself for the work you and your partners have put in over the years to push toward acceptance and love. I am very fortunate to be doing this in a more accepting time, but we wouldn't be here without families like yours promoting love, especially in conservative communities. Thank you ❤️

I also have certain topics about my life and beliefs that I will only discuss with people in person because I want them to KNOW my heart and that can't be done in a video. When I heard that you were brought up by lesbian mums, it didn't really occur to me to doubt your theology or question your morals, because I have watched your content and can see the fruit that you bring! It is wise that you didn't explain your personal views here, because you don't need to, you are responsible before God, not somebody on the internet. Such a lovely video, thanks for sharing your perspective. I know it can’t all have been easy but it’s such a necessary thing to speak openly and without shame about all the shapes and sizes and styles of family. Gay or straight, we all get things right and wrong as parents. At the end of the day Love is Love 🌈❤️ and to accept and value people even if we don’t align with their beliefs is so important. I would just say phrasing it as ‘living a homosexual lifestyle’ is not really true- if your mom is a lesbian, chances are she was born like that. Being gay isn’t a lifestyle, trust me, I wouldn’t choose to be gay seeing how I am treated for it :)

@@rachelhenning2626 if you are not gay you really do not know how it works. A lifestyle is like what diet you eat, how you exercise, where you live, all of it is a choice. Being gay is NOT a choice, like i said in my earlier comment, which, by the way, did you even read it?. Choosing to come out of the closet? Well, sure, that is a choice. But actually being gay is an innate thing. If it was a choice no one would be gay. I sure wouldn’t. My life would be exponentially easier, being straight. But i literally cannot change that.

I grew up in a sort of similar dynamic. My parents (mom and dad) split up when I was really little and then my mom went on to come out as a lesbian (then way further down the line as bisexual) and we lived with her various girlfriends for most of my childhood. And I always find it weird when people ask me what it was like. We as a family had dysfunction but it was the same kind of dysfunction that lots traditional families have too. I dont think the dysfunction was ever exclusive to the fact that two women were raising me. (Just my personal opinion and experience not saying everyone's is that way of course) The only issue I ever had that was "unique" to being raised by 2 women was other peoples reactions to my family or the way people treated me becuase of it. Anyways long rambling response but thank you for sharing your story and being so positive while doing so!

Just now we try to get lgbtq+ people right to have civil union and its really sad situation. We didnt get an approval for pride march or some sort of pride month celebration. We had straight homophobic "traditional family" march in May and they vere anti-LGBTQ+ (telling that they need to "cure" themselves from being gay, to kill themselves or saying that lgbt+ ability to have civil union will transition straight kids to being gay). Im so happy that your mothers were able to have a some sort of union and i hope that one day we will be able to have non-straight people have a some sort of union in Lithuania too.

Two mothers will always surround the child with more love than a mixed couple, I don't know why, maybe it's probably strictly maternal instinct doubled. Some men can be good parents I can't deny it, but women have a special connection with the child, of course we have some exceptions too. My parents were disasters, he a bastard and she, maybe it could have been a little better if he didn't exist, but past is past I don't want to hear from them, no place in my life for misery, but I have meet children raise by two mothers, the love and security they received is fantastic, I never see the same capacity at mix couple children even if they have been good parents, it's just so much mother aura I don't know just fantastic. So ladies, don't be afraid to raise children because you don't like men, you give birth even to them, it's your nature to be caring and protective not in theirs, you don't a man to be a fantastic parent, one or two fantastic mothers.

Jess I’ve been following you since I got pregnant back in 2019! I have heard many of your stories of life seasons you’ve gone through and I am thankful you felt God calling you to share this as well. You’ve overcome so much girl, and you’re an inspiration to your family, friends, and all of us who don’t even know you. I know posting things like this is not easy at all and as a human you fight the people pleasing and hoping you don’t hurt someone by posting it. I totally get that!! I think you handled it gracefully. As a fellow sister in Christ, the only thing I want to share to hopefully edify and encourage you with, is that maybe bringing up how you’ve navigated life with your gay family members since you became a Christian? Maybe some hard conversations you’ve had to have? Of course loving them like Jesus would is a must, but I know loving them includes sparking conversations with others or with them that point them to scripture and what Gods word says. It would be great to hear from you on how it’s been over the years as you may have shared scripture with them. I say this, because I’ve been recently doing studies on topics like this and I’m finding great food for thought and truth we can share with others. It’s just hard to know how to begin those conversations. I want to know how we can share that doesn’t point them away from Jesus but brings them to Him slowly but surely. Anyways, thanks for sharing and I’m hoping more love and truth outpours from Jesus over your family. He is an amazing faithful God and I am glad your my fellow sister who’s transparent about her faith walk with the Lord!

I'm gay and I'm a Christian too, I also had views about faith and homosexuality as well but I can't talk about it too. The Church members are accepting of who I am they even miss me because I usually go to Church every Sunday. Suffice to say is whatever it is in my heart, I'm happy to choose to go there. God loves everyone in that matter. I'm happy and feeling blessed to be alive and I know that Lord wants me to be happy.

This is a hard topic for Christians. Even if you think they're bigoted or evil for not liking this discussion you must understand that so many christians have never been around gay people. They have never been able to talk about gay people in their circles. So this is an incredible foreign and uncomfortable topic for some people and I'm glad they're maybe getting a gentle introduction from this video.

Thank you for taking the risk to tell your story. My wife and I are starting our family planning journey and there are people in our life who don’t support LGBT+ families. I truly believe that having positive, realistic stories like yours available will help to make a positive change for families like mine! Thank you for being a great ally.

I can’t imagine the pressure you have faced growing up with lesbian parents and even more so when you became a Christian, but I am so glad that you have done what you needed to do to heal and grow to understand the situation your in💛 our pastor was just talking about loving the gay community because it’s not our job to judge them, it’s our job to love them like Jesus has loved us and go out there and share the Gospel with them!! You are so inspiring, and God has certainly blessed you with a gentle heart❤️ you would be perfect to walk along side younger teens that maybe struggling with this like you did then, you would bring such life and understanding to them, and maybe even save some souls along the way! What a ministry you have at the tips of your fingers! You go girl!

We take for granted how much easier it is to live as a gay person today than it was even 20 years ago (it’s still not easy, but it’s definitely easier). Shout out to your moms who chose to live as who they were, openly and freely, in a time when it was not something as mainstream as it is today.

It seems I can tell that kids grow up faster in a gay parenthood than the default parenthood and also they revert back to straight too.
