Episode 10 - The nose job
Its time to fix its nose! The front panel of our gt junior needed to be repaired however there were many other parts that needed attention as they were repaired poorly. We had to repair the anti roll bar mounts as they were welded poorly as well as the engine bay/inner wheel wells before we could carry on and assemble the front. The radiator cross member was a home made mess so had to make it right again and install a new reproduction part that looked like the original was back when the car was new. Last but not least we repaired the area underneath the battery tray, as well as remade a new battery tray from thick gauge steel.

Excellent work and presented in such a way many of us hope and believe we can also bring our 105s back from the dead. Thanks for the clear examples. Regarding the pieces fabricated for the anti roll bar, what gauge metal is required?

Thanks for the great comment :) The sheet we used is 17/18 gauge (1.1mm) for the sides however the black replacement part is closer to 16 gauge (almost 2.0 mm) We used 20 gauge (around 0.8mm) for the non structural parts)

Thanks ! I would try MIG welding first before TIG. I Tig welded the quarter panel and warped quicky, it takes a lot of practice to Tig bodywork, MIG is easier to start

Thanks...check out Classic Alfa and Alfaholics sites, they're big parts suppliers that restore cars too, based In the UK. The panels aren't cheap but good quality. You can buy the front end which includes the the step front maybe it will save you buying the front mudguards. They stock headlamps, chrome trim and grilles too

I used 17/18 gauge for the sides (just over 1mm thick) however the black anti roll bar mounts were about 2mm as it was a purchased part. We use 20 gauge for non structural repairs

Hello, Thanks for your great videos! I'm restoring my step nose Junior andI would like to know how did you weld the bottom of the front panel with the radiator cross member? Hope you can help me!
@raisingjunior6389
@raisingjunior6389 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks!You're this video doesn't show the front edge joined to the crossmember. I drilled a series of holes along the edge about 40 mm apart where the front panels rests on the crossmember, I left out 2 places where the front panel doesn't touch the cross member as there is a water drain, so mark before drilling. I aligned the edges together and held with clamp, then filled the holes in the front panel with plug welds. If you have a powerful spot welder you won't need to drill holes. Hope this helps
