Regarding the comments about us only being interested in recent stories: I disagree. I'm playing League for 9 years now, and actively watching the pro scene since 2015. Regardless if I've already seen it or not, it's such a privilage wathing these essays. What I wanna say is, old stories are desired! I'd love to get introduces to teams, strategies and players of before I was palying/ watching actively, as well as nostaligcally remember old METAs

I have a rakan OTP as a friend and he swears by AP Rakan Mid when you are counterpicking an assassin. W max, and just shut down any engage. By level 6 you just ult away as your escape instead of needing to use your W

I'm glad you made that point at the end. Me and my friend on League decided to play "Burny boys" which is Brand/Velkoz bot lane for fun, both with the arclight skins and I've noticed just how much easier it feels to play mages bot lane now. I feel like the season 8 ADC changes were the reasons for this but I feel like those changes even though partially reverted somewhat along with the item changes today delaying crit builds (20% crit per item from 25%) has made mages more accepted and much more useful across the board. It's never been so fun playing these off-meta builds. Zilean/Pyke bot, Neeko/Pantheon and Brand/Velkoz has been some of the most fun I've had in league in my 8 and a half years of playing.

I'm not really someone that comments on youtube videos but I did want to say that I personally really love hearing about the history of league. I've only gotten into watching league since worlds last year and it's been great to gain some context for not just the teams involved but the hundreds of references that are made on the broadcasts. Polish Streamer Marcin "Xayoo" Majkut invented Rakan mid and he was not mentioned here :c. He is an ex pro player ( played in EU LCS 2015 and in Challanger Series ), also a year ago he got challanger in 6 days, then swapped servers and was winning vs the top of that other server. He is the biggest Polish streamer creating all sorts of off meta picks.

Keep up the quality work gbay, I hope to see your channel become a sort of library for League's history and as a viewer i definitely wouldn't mind a mix of old and new stories as well as your takes in other topics (ala your 00:00 birth of a short) your professionalism and ability to make cohesive scripts is no joke an artform

You know what... Gbay and some other League documentary KZfaqrs are doing gods work. Anyone who says that talking about the old days of League is stupid and a waste of time are also probably people who don't know any history of their country. So what... are we only supposed to talk about the big plays of the week as seen on highlight channels? or only talk about how most of the item changes made huge mixups in champion diversity? I can tell you that I know more about League history because of Gbay and Exil then anything else on the internet. Besides people who like to say "Season 3 was the golden age and League is no fun anymore" with no explanation other then "It was just more fun." It hurt to hear the people don't wanna hear about it. Maybe it's because they lived it, or maybe it's because they just don't wanna see how League used to look. I dunno, but what I do know is learning about the history of League is cool :3

a good recent off meta champ could be Nunu mid, a KR player reached Chall spamming it which got the attention of PekinWoof and Faker and they also started playing it in their ranked challenger games

If you get another chance to look into another old odd pro game, I highly recommend Lemondogs vs OMG game 2 at worlds group stage since the comp that got ran in it was just so bizarre and was a culmination of all of the wierd strats and one time blips that were coming out of worlds that year. It didn't have much impact in the grand scheme of the tournament, but it was a really cool match since the chinese team adopted distinctly foreign strategies for how they played the game. Hey Gbay, long time fan I was wondering if it was possible for you to make all your documentary videos into like a podcast/audiobook type thing? Where you cut out the parts when its either music playing or when its clips of gameplay, I like falling asleep listening to your docs (and I'm sure I'm not the only one) and the change in audio and volume is a little much when trying to sleep. I completely understand if you cant/dont want to/theres not enough reason to do it, but I just thought I'd ask to see. Anyway, love the content man! Keep it up!

Strange picks usually make the best stories by far

I realize that you're exaggerating some things for the sake of the narrative but some of it is so silly when actually evaluated that it breaks the enjoyment of the video IMO. For example, rakan most certainly isnt just like a control mage lategame and doesnt have as much damage as an assassin. He has a total of 190% AP ratio in his damage abilities, meanwhile other assassins like diana, ekko and akali have higher ratios (min 295% for diana, 210% for ekko not counting ult or W and 230% on akali with a single Q and passive auto) while also having higher cooldowns than those assassins. But whats extremely noticeable is when you say that rakan can match ASol's priority... while showing footage of him getting pushed under tower by asol early and then continue to talk about how he was just as effective as ASol early which lead to his team being ahead despite you showing them being behind 3k at 15 minutes and 4k at 20 minutes. This directly contradicts what you're narrating...

you should do the moonstone, staff of flowing water if you want recent material. It has allowed weird enchanters to go as solo laners (ivern), duo enchanters botlane and even ap junglers to go it.

Xayah Rakan funnel was played a lot more by G2 Esports in 2018, and also for a single game in 2019 Spring to counter Sona Lux
