Has the shell been opened or is that also still intact? Also, as there is no music on it, I do not think it classifies as a prerecorded Digital Compact Cassette. So no inclusion into the database for me.

I think the database should include a category for dummy tapes like these. Especially seeing that there may be more. It could also include the samples under this category regardless of the actual release status of said samples. Also, There could be a way to identify them without cracking the wrap: tape is heavy; so empty cartridges should be considerably lighter than the actual releases.

I think all DCC cassettes that at least look as if they're real (or there could have been a real version) deserve a space in the catalog. After all, someone went through the trouble of designing the artwork for the DCC J-card and maybe booklet, and they went to a printer. In other words: Record companies obviously made some amount of effort and spent some money, which to me indicates that they were serious about bringing the title to market one day, or at least they were enthusiastic about promoting the DCC format, so they deserve a mention in the catalog. Obviously the ones that are dummies or contain blank or non-playable tape should of be clearly marked as such. Who knows, maybe you'll find the real tape one day.

If you want to keep record of all the proper titles, why not do the same with these make-offs? Just add a column to the database that can help distinguish the fakes from the real ones and perhaps some more unique identification criteria can be added for future filtering and querying purposes. I would perform some forensic research in addition to that. Check for and compare the print quality of the labels (dot pitch, number of colors) to find out if it was homemade or professionaly printed, fingerprints, minuscule text characters or markings, weight of the cassettes etc. to find matching cases and perhaps find answers to the questions they raise... Interestingly interesting matter!

I'd still be reporting the seller to the Japanese police, especially if he is still active having been made aware of these fakes. He has obviously made a lot of money if they are going for such high sums of money and he should at least be made to refund everyone who bought one of the fakes. I would also say if there is any chance they are fake then they should not be included in the database of official releases.

You should not add these to the database, if you do you reward the seller for possible scamming people
