When you begin to awaken, you are not coming from such a needy place when you enter into a relationship, not looking to “lock in” so quickly. Your need is still there as a human incarnation - but you are not so identified with that need and because you are already resting in a place of love, and you can experience the sharing of love and oneness without fear.
You don’t need a person to get into that space, you are already in it.
“People look for another kind of relationship. They look for a relationship in which they can experience their soul. Where they can experience even beyond that, where they can experience what they call love.”

Relationship yoga is the only way for me. Empathy is my vehicle. Loving her was part of loving every thing. And I refused to let our incompatibilities ruin the empathy we showed each other in a time of loneliness in our younger selves. ... I don’t know if that is relationship yoga, but I’m trying to get us both there-- I’m just trying to get us all there really. To a place of unconditional love.

I'm in the same situation as you, and I must admit that I wouldn't be the same person today if I hadn't tried to help him throughout the years. It's been hard, it still is, but I don't regret a thing

I just came upon this post on New Year's Day. Two thoughts occurred to me. First, that what you are describing is compassion. I learned from the Dalai Lama's thinking that empathy and compassion are two different things. Empathy leads us to "vibrate" with another being's feelings. It does not automatically lead to action. Compassion must lead to action. Empathy may be an aspect of the path to compassionate action. Or not, since it can keep a person trapped in "feeling" energies that are stuck in enabling futile behavior. It takes constant emotional and spiritual discernment to keep the difference clear. Second, the relationship you're describing depends on both people being willing to stay - to work at giving up the power struggle, even if on differing levels of awareness. It's possible - even likely - that the other will not stay, will simply run away to avoid this work, to avoid the inevitable pain of unfreezing one's ego. This has been the case in my experience. When this happens, we must let that person go on into whatever his/her life path is and get on with our own. Love may have been "awakened through love itself" in the other - but that other has the freedom to flee true love, whether from another human being or from God. In my view, we live in a culture that flees both, one that prefers to live in control.

The Karma has to be balanced leaving the subtle body to account for action/karma. You shall not get out until the last cent is paid. Take a path that burns the seeds of Samskara yet to materialize. After all we are gods experiencing the self individually from one.

One is needed for the other. So they are they same, and these two energies/forces make up your being and all beings. So get with it baby or fight it. You’re still enacting them both out until u get the balance on that fine line just right.
