Hello, on this video of Ramblin' Man, could you use a doubler pedal or an octave pedal to get a similar effect as the two guitar parts that are in thirds?
@desisernaguitar

@@stephendixon3597 Yes, set it to 3rds but the lines aren't strictly 3rds so it won't sound completely the same.

Thank you! Excellent video. Literally everything you need to play AND understand this song. I’m studying the “Dickey Betts sound”; his unique soloing style is so pleasing to the ear. Nothing fancy or experimental: just very clever combinations of basic scalar lines played with etude-like rhythmic patterns, some of them a bit tricky. A master of phrasing, he plays with a clean sound which allows the nuances of his picking to shine; I really love his use of ghosted notes. Good for ANY guitarist to improve dexterity and add complexity to the basic pentatonic scale. A very creative player… Dickey will be missed.

Great presentation! Thank you for helping me save time in sussing out the harmonized line before the solo. I did notice one error though - the end of the second phrase ends with 3rd not 4ths, so the upper harmony notes are D and C, not E and D (on the 1e...3 of the 3rd bar)

Great ear, but you do have one part wrong. At 4:55 in the video the high harmony should be Gb-G-A-B-C-D-G-Gb-Gb-Gb-D-C-C... not Gb-G-A-B-C-D-G-Gb-Gb-Gb-E-D-D... That said, you got a few parts correct that I've been playing wrong. Thanks for the video!

Excellent analysis of the harmonic structure of this song. Continuous parallel thirds probably wouldn't have been popular in times of counterpoint composition (Bach?), but hey, they are certainly novel in rock. I can think of what I suspect is another one: "And Your Bird Can Sing". I request a reverse engineering that lead some time, please.

Now I’m more confused The main problem I have with this is that playing along with the song with this breakdown sounds so dissimilar that’s it hard to reconcile my ear the difference. Makes me think people hear things so differently it’s hard to get a grip on things sometimes. I’m thinking my issue is I can play only one part at a time and when the 2 are combined only then do the sounds mesh to make things sound right.

Does anyone in the world know where and how the last 20 seconds of the song, as it fades out, is? The slide guitar as the song fades out is the one part of the song that everybody loves, but I haven’t heard any guitar experts talk much about. I want to hear how to do that, and wish to find a 20 second clip of that guitar part alone, without it fading out, so that way we can hear it fully. I am just curious though, and searching for it, not trying to be demanding. Just thought I would post my question, because no one seems to talk about it except for us kids in the South that really love hearing that crying or wailing guitar part
