The Zubat family is the only line from Gen 1 to still, after all these years, have a unique type combination. The Gastly line also shared this distinction, right up until the SV epilogue added Pecharunt as the last Pokémon in the entire Gen 9 Pokédex.

Ahh, Pokedex entries. We're presented it as if it's the encyclopedia of Pokémon, when really, it's like a collection of folktales (which make its incongruities easier to swallow). Some of the folktales are based on some sort of observation, but other are like, "Hmm, it has two heads... It must be a survival trait so it can always be aware of its surroundings." "But sir, both appear to be sleeping." "No, no, no, the left one is just resting its eyes."

Speed stat is meant to show how long it takes a pokemon to create and use an attack, not how fast they are when running or flying. This explains Veluza, Vikavolt, etc.. a great recent example imo is Varoom, who has 47 base speed and the Slow Start ability, yet is the fastest synchro machine Pokémon

An extra fact about combining all the types if you found a way to get rid of the flying type (like using the move smack down) the Pokémon would become 8x weak to the ground type. it also quad resists bug type.

Fun fact: The type weakness pattern is inversed in Kanto, with the future gym being good against the prior. There is also an exception to this pattern, being Blaine.

Curiously enough, Gen 2's Gym Leader trend is actually a perfect inversion of that of Gen 1's. As can be seen here: Brock < Misty < Lt. Surge < (resisted by) Erika < Koga < Sabrina ≠ (doesn't have any interaction with) Blaine < Giovanni.

On the Sunny Day thing, Bramblin's line are dead, tumbleweeds are only seed carriers and as such don't photosynthesize, Polchageist is ground macha powder meaning it can't photosynthesize, and Toedscruel is technically a fungus so it can't photosynthesize either meaning calling a Sunny Day gives no benefit (yes I know other fungus based Grass types get the move). In game reasons, Bramblin calling out the sun would prevent the 100% accuracy of Hurricane in the rain and Blizzard in the snow, two moves that its Wind Rider gives a benefit from being "hit" by, Polchageist gets Scald so they don't want to reduce its power(?) flimsy I know, and Toedscruel's Mycelium Might would give negative priority to a move that gives no advantage to it, and only amplifies its weakness. Though a slow Sunny Day into a regular Solar Beam wouldn't be a bad strategy. But hey, that's just a theory.

I imagine the reason the "pokemon is happier when in the location you caught it" never returns is because that accidentally implies they are happier where they were then traveling around with you, the person that caught them against their will 😅

One of my favorite random Pokémon facts is that there are 2 unique Pokémon type combinations that are only obtainable within battle (meaning a temporary form change). These are Mega Altaria (Dragon/Fairy) and Galarian Darmanitan-Zen (Ice/Fire).

The mandatory capture comes fr9m HGSS: you can't continue your way without catching Lugia or Ho-Oh. In GSC you totally could ignore them & go on your merry way towards Kanto with no Legends.

Correction: in gen 4 tackle was weaker at 35 power and 95 accuracy. And was bufred to 50p/100% in gen 5 making is thw strongets of the trio.

Actual physical speed and the speed stat are two separate elements. If they were the same, many pokemon would have zero speed stats because they can't move at all.

The speed stat doesn't always seem directly correlated to actually speed. Just the pokemons ability to hit first. Dugtrio doesn't have high speed because it's actually fast. It has high speed because it's a whack-a-mole so you have to wait till it pops up to hit it. So maybe dodrio actually does run slower, but it has an easier time hitting you faster because it has more heads.

Toedscruel uses the cover of darkness when hunting in the forest, the light from sunny day would stop it's sneaking as it's too slow to hunt by other methods also mushrooms grow better in the dark so you'd essentially be asking toedscruel to disable itself by learning and using sunny day.

So with the gen 2 gym type matchups, it was speculated that instead of Normal we would have gotten a Dark gym instead since it would make the johto gym matchups all make sense (Bug being super effective against Dark). It was unfortunate we never ended up with a Dark type gym because of that.

The generation 2 gym weaknesses is a mirror of generation 1's gyms. Rock loses to Water, which is beaten by Electric, which is resisted by Grass, which in turn gets defeated by Poison, which gets overpowered by Psychic. Fire does nothing special in gen 1 against Psychic, breaking the chain, but then Ground stamps out Fire to start (and end) a new chain. It's most likely an amusing coincidence, but it's still funny how that works out.

Okay, here's some of my fun facts: *For some odd reason, in Generation 2, if both Pokémon use Roar or Whirlwind, the move fails on the Pokémon that goes first. *Also in G2, Staryu, a genderless Pokémon, had egg moves.

9:57 there are a lot of speed stat oddities like that, and honestly it leads me to believe that ‘speed’ might mean something else. Specifically, I think that speed meaning reaction speed/ reflexiveness would make a lot more sense, given Pokémon with surprisingly high speed stats like Dodrio (3 heads to notice and react even quicker than 2) and Purugly (cats are known for their quick reflexes)

The type advantage cycle of type specialists is also pretty much present in Gen 1 too, and including the Elite 4; but in reverse. And it breaks in the second entry too, kinda. Ground beats Fire. Fire is neutral on Psychic. Psychic beats Poison. Poison beats Grass. Grass resists Electric (this is the only other iffy part). Electric beats Water. Water beats Rock. Now if you imagine a second circle in the E4: Agatha beats Bruno, Bruno beats Lorelei, Lorelei beats Lance. If Lorelei is counted as an Ice Type Specialist, she beats Ground and is beaten by rock, and the abundance of Lance's flying types also make him immune to ground and beaten by Rock, making the E4 another part of the cycle either the whole way through or just the first. It makes me wonder if at any point in development Dragon was considered strong agaisnt Ghost, because it was this close to being an entire 12 character weakness (or at least advantage) chain, with, again, the only outstanding point being the second link..

I always question why Lopunny isn't in X&Y at all. Isn't Kalos supposed to express beauty, with Pokémon resembling it like Xerneas, Diancie, Roserade, Gradevoir, Florges, or even Bellossom? Despite Lopunny's origins or anything else It's another missed opportunity from the game(s), but this one is a lot more minor than the others because it's just 2 Pokémon from an evolution line.

The gen 3 starters ruin the starting movie pattern. Each one has a different move but the grass starter has pound and the water starter has tackle. It’s also possible Whitney was supposed to be the dark leader to keep the pattern going since dark wasn’t represented by any gym leader either. And do we need a normal gym? But they decided to save dark for the elite 4 instead. Miltank may have even been a dark type since it’s basically the devil.
