If you cannot clear the fault with iCarsoft or diagnostics, then it's likely you have a hardware issue, in this episode I investigate further and perform a full strip down of the compressor to replace the piston ring. This is a common issue where a worn piston seal can result in the compressor running on too long, over heating and triggering 'Air Suspension Inactive Fault' on your dashboard. Will replacing the piston ring clear the dash fault !

If you have a warning of 'Air Susp - Inactive' on your Range Rover L322 and you cannot clear it by turning steering wheel from lock to lock, I go deeper into the diagnostic with iCarsoft to understand what other items are linked and can cause the fault, ABS, and Steering Angle Sensor.

Had this fault on my L322. I noticed on episode 1 that a fault was noted for a height sensor. That was the cause of mine. A small plastic lever that can break or seize. Quick and easy to change. Cheap fix for a Range Rover too 👍

A really excellent video, as you say a great confidence builder, with digital cameras/mobile phones, it is an easy thing to take lots of photos before bits are stripped off, that makes it much easier when re assembling if you are not familiar with the system, i notice the washers with the small flat cut on them mysteriously turned 180 degs in the last shots? Many thanks for posting this one! Chris B.

Love watching your videos mate, I took my 04 vogue for MOT last week and suspension was on middle setting for 12 months all good, then day of MOT it decides it's going to sink down on bump stops. + 3 amigos decided to come on on dash. ABS light etc. Got to get rear seat belt anchor points welded.

That doesn't look like an original Wabco compressor. More like a Chinese clone. Did this 'fix' with a kit from a well-known Scottish supplier on my L322 - the compressor does have an original Wabco with a manufacturing sticker from Dec 2004 which ties in with the registration date. It lasted maybe 4-5 months before the pressure static when filling fault returned. Compressor would run but wouldn't start increasing the air tank pressure until compressor temperature was over 45 centigrade. Stripped it lat week and the 'new' piston ring was in an awful mess - worse than the original ring I removed - and the cylinder head is now scored. Piston big and little end bearings are good so I bought a new cylinder head and piston ring which I hope to fit this weekend. Will see how it goes.

What happens when the compressor gets wet?

good question, the pump is semi sealed inside the metal housing, it will stop water for a while but may get in through the cable gland. What I would do if it got wet was to remove the cover (see my video) and use warm air to dry it. The water in the wheel well can be avoided by removing the rubber drain plug to allow water to escape.
