After a startling realization, Twilight heads back to Canterlot to make amends with her old friends. But will she be able to make amends for the past, or is the past lost forever?
This was a beautiful episode. A wonderful trip down memory lane, we get to travel back to where it all began five years ago, see returning background characters, plus get introduced to a new character. With a beautiful, relatable story, characterizations, and emotions, this is definitely a favorite episode of mine.

Luckily, I havn't seen anyone saying this episode lacked anything.. it pretty much hit every brony's feels - And yes, that pony in the restaurant, that was Starlight Glimmer hiding behind the menu

Kayter Tot "Panda" Really? Wow, that is impressive. I'm glad that the episode has been mostly met with positivity. It certainly hit mine. I've been in that place before of being let down by a friend you trusted, so I can relate to Moon Dancer. And I've been in that place before of feeling like I hurt a friend and wanting to do everything in my power to make it up to them. So I could relate to Twilight Sparkle. I thought that was her! I was going to mention it but got sidetracked by the rest of the episode. I wonder if it was just coincidence she was there or if she was spying on her...

At the beginning of the episode, her door was shut to the idea of Friendship and at the end it’s open once again. I can relate to Moon Dancer as I have been hurt by friends in the past.

this became my top Favorite Episode. I just being someone like moon dancer how she feels. being alone, don't butter talking to anybody. Being HURT. really Love this episode.

T-Baiter Not entirely a reskin. Her mane is mirrored, and the second part of the episode, she has glasses and a different hair style. She most likely looked like twilight because they where best friends, and Moondancer wanted to be like twilight, because of her Smartness. Then forgot about twilight and got rid of her hair style when she left the friendzone.

Im sorry but you sat there the whole episode ragging on spike, when he WAS there back before she left remember? And he was their friend too. ALSO he's the reason this episode existed in the first place. Without him telling Twilight about her old friends she woulda never came to see them. All he did was good stuff this episode and yet.... Stop being biased based on the fact he's about the same age as the CMC and makes mistakes often too?

BlazingRefrain2001 Exactly. I don't understand this entire hate towards Spike. He's a very loyal friend and he's always there for Twilight or her friends when they need him. He's more the Element of Loyalty than Rainbow Dash! It's just he wants to be helpful and useful to the point that he sometimes goes overboard with it. But is it the reason to blame him for that? People only look for his mistakes and failures, and don't see his successes (saving the Crystal Empire and the Equestria Games being just two examples). His best feature is being a good adviser, a word of truth, and his little actions can sometimes be the butterfly effect which starts the entire stories, like in this episode. For those who still hate Spike, I advise you to make an experiment: Watch the show again from S1 onwards, trying to remove Spike from every scene, along with every event which was caused by him directly or indirectly. I wonder how much will remain from this show after you've done this :P

Bon Bon I think people who hate Spike just forget that he's pretty much a little kid and think that they wouldn't have fucked up in the situations that Spike is being repeatedly put into in this show (if they were put in them at his age). He really only screws up in completely understandable situations: a complete change of scenery and activities (Spike at your Service), immense pressure (Equestria Games, Princess Spike), responsibilities completely unfit for a kid (Princess Spike), identity crisis, etc. Spike's cool, and people like Ranger seem to hold him to a standard that really shouldn't apply to a little kid. I mean, the CMC have screwed up more in the show and can act much dumber a lot of the time (and can be much more annoying with all the shouting they sometimes do), but they have the advantage of being a) adorable and b) the designated kid characters, wheres Spike is a dude (and therefore magically less adorable) and the fact that he's as much of a kid as the CMC is normally not all that central to his character.

Bon Bon I don't hate him. Believe me, if I did, you'd know it. :P There is a big difference between hating a character with a fiery, burring passion, and simply not having anything for a character. Disney's Mortimer Mouse is a character I hate with a fiery, burning passion. XD And you are correct, Spike is a friend and has been there for Twilight. I honestly just keep forgetting that Spike does have a fanbase of his own and what he has done in the past, and for that, I do apologize to all Spike fans.

Antroid You're very much correct. The CMC's have the advantage of being adorable, but I certainly won't deny that even the CMC's have had moments when they were annoying as well. However, I think the CMC's more often than not learn from their mistakes and have matured in terms of their character since season one. In season 4, they seemed much less focused on getting their marks and wasn't as brought down by Silver Spoon and Diamond Tiara's bullying. In terms of Spike, In Equestria Games we get an episode where Spike is depressed because he feels unwanted. Then in Power Ponies we get a similar setup. In Princess Spike, his intentions started out good, but then he quickly took advantage of his position. The icing on the dislike cake for me was when he was going to escape, allowing Twilight to take the blame for the mess he created. The moments where Spike showed maturity in his character, like in Dragon Quest, where moments I felt like he shinned.

EP 12 I love this episode largely because of the continuity and great characters. I love that Spike and the show brought up that Twilight Sparkle used to barely have friends before the show started. When Twilight Sparkle said start at the beginning it is awesome that it is literaly at the beginning the first episode. I was like awesome Colgate and Lyra even if they couldn't use Minuette’s fan name. I don't know why Spike is surprised Twilight Sparkle stayed up all night to find information. I fucking love Minuette’s personality it’s adorable. I love that Larson found a way to make a plausible explanation for why these 3 and Lyra are everywhere. I love the epic burn against Twilight Sparkle that she always blew people off before the show. I love the flashback because we get to see filly Twilight Sparkle who is adorable and I see Tara Strong’s Bubbles voice is coming out. I love that Moondancer is a palette swap of Twilight Sparkle and WTF was with Lemonhearts in the beaker. I started to get worried when I saw Moondancer’s house especially the interior and what she looked like. I love the comparison between Twilight Sparkle and Moondancer in that she is Twilight Sparkle if she never made friends. I love the “disguises” Twilight Sparkle and Minuette wore and that Spike doesn't even bother. Also as Twilight Sparkle can see a life without friends would've been very lonely. I love Twilight Sparkle’s attempts to interact with Moondancer. Also Twilight Sparkle should've know appearing in her book would make her look crazy. I love that because they are both so smart Twilight Sparkle and Moondancer get along. When I heard that Twilight Sparkle left behind a gift from Moondancer I wanted to facepalm. I love that Twilight Sparkle gave Moondancer her old home and that she is trying to teach someone about friendship like Celestia before the show started. I also love that Twilight Sparkle had to resort to using bribery on Moondancer. I like how awkward the dinner is. Also I did not see this the first time watching but holy shit Starlight Glimmer is in the background. I do not think this is some throwaway thing by the animators so my theory is that she has been stalking Twilight Sparkle to find out weaknesses and possibly ponies to corrupt. Although I do think Twilight Sparkle should've gotten wanted posters made of that crazy bitch. I think the flashback of the party was for the audience and how Twilight Sparkle thinks the party went. I love that Twilight Sparkle brought Pinkie Pie as her secret weapon and that Pinkie Pie knows Minuette. I also love that Pinkie Pie and Minutte seem like a great team. I love that they got Moondancer to the party with a trail of books. The speech Moondancer gives is heartbreaking for her and Twilight Sparkle. For Moondancer because she seemed like she had a very low opinion of herself and for Twilight Sparkle because she didn't mean to cause so much pain she just didn't understand friendship. I love how they all brought Moondancer out of her depression. I love the photo Spike gives to Moondancer at the end. I like the theory that Moondancer was so upset Twilight Sparkle didn't come to her party and left without saying goodbye was because she had a crush on her. Also that the streak in her hair like Twilight Sparkle isn't natural and she dyed it for her and kept dyeing it because it was her last spark of hope.

30:38 - exactly. I think that this show wasted a good opportunity to teach kids while they're still young, that sometimes you can't save all your old friendships, and that some people prefer to be introverts, through no fault of anybody else. But this show IS called "Friendship Is Magic", so that's the only route the show can take. Aside from that though, I adored this episode, because just like almost every other blind reactor I've watch for this episode, it really struck close to home for me. I wasn't a very popular kid growing up in school either, picked on every other day to the point that I felt I could never open myself up to anybody without fear of being hurt. So congrats, M. A. Larson, you bastard, you made me cry twice in the span of a month. :P

Ponyville Ranger Yeah, the only episodes I like more than this one are Slice of Life and Pinkie Pride. Hurricane Fluttershy comes close though.

+Ponyville Ranger starswirl the bearded? seriously? how the fuck you gonna see him,if he was born 100 ages ago,and disapeared with unknown reason while Celestia and Luna defeated Lord Tirek.Starwirl is the one who was BEFORE Celestia and Luna.He was even before princess Spring,Summer,Winter and Fall.

TheHeavyMetalBrony Hopefully, yes. That would make for a great concept. However, I cant help but fear that she's spying on her to learn her weaknesses, to see how powerful her magic is and to see what makes her tick in an attempt to use it against her. Thanks for commenting by the way!

Ok, so why the hate on spike? I know he was a pain in princess spike, using twilight for his own deeds. But every episode has a story, You never know if that next story was after or before the last one.

+prebenkul Spike is overall a hard character to like, simply because the writers clearly have no qualms about shucking his character development for the sole purpose of making him look bad so that the Mane 6 look better.

It's funny you would mention learning to shut up next time, as I was just at that moment thinking the same about you right as you spoke those words. Anyways, aside from your pissing and moaning about Spike, which is almost starting to become something that's just part of the parcel of your episode reviews from my perspective, the rest of your reaction was enjoyable to watch. Ponyville Ranger Please, whatever you do, don't censor yourself on my behalf. It's *absolutely* fine that you dislike Spike, it's just that I find your reaction to him, which to me seems to go beyond dislike, and straight to the verge of outright hostility, rather confusing. When I'm watching the video, every time the screen shows Spike, you seem to smile a little less brightly, get a little less enthused with the situation, and that's kind of strange to me, as I'm merely ambivalent towards Spike. There isn't any problem with that though. The point of a reaction is to show your honest opinion on the episode. Also, I feel the need to apologize. I made that comment without thinking straight, whilst really tired, and distracted by other issues, and while those do explain why was snippy, they still don't excuse it. So, again, sorry about that.
