I was a student in late '68 and graduated Jan '69. Returned in '71 as an instructor and later instructor team chief in the Mountain Ranger Camp till '73. No live ammunition or demolitions were ever used by students. Sometimes, instructors would use flash bangs to simulate demolitions. Ranger students are just flat out too tired and wonky to handle them safely.

@@Oldag75 Class 7 in the winter of 68 - 69. Knew Uncle Bernie as both a student and instructor. I was a Team Chief in the Mountains, but left in March '73, so didn't know Larry. I did get to meet a bunch of Merrill's Marauders when they came up for the ceremony to officially change the name from Mountain Ranger Camp to Camp Merrill.

Once they added Desert Phase, there were live fires, to include day and night out at Dugway, UT, then TX. Desert was the culmination ex phase, then redeploy to Benning for graduation. They dropped Desert Phase in the early/mid 1990s and went back to 3 Phases with Florida as the culminex.

Did they have blank adapters or firing real ammo I didn't see holyshit

Blanks. You could see the black fellow with the M14 at the start had a Stopper on the end of the barrel. It was painted grey instead of the usual red, so it was a little hard to see.
