The Mets bias is unreal. He's super good. I don't think anyone disputes that. He is also maybe the most smoke and mirrors pitcher in the Majors. Consistently some of the best velo, whiff rate, and K rate. However. He has also consistently finished around the 50th percentile in both hard hit% and BB%, and the middle of the pack in these important stats isn't nearly good enough to consider him "the best without a doubt" coming off an entire season where he didn't throw a pitch.

If these rankings are strictly projections for the upcoming year, fine it makes sense and I get it, but would it kill you to give props to the one of the definitive top guys from this past season, considering the projections (and thus the main content of the video) are based on past performance? As a Braves fan I'm really not that upset at the ranking. Atlanta's bullpen is unique in the fact there's no one or two really amazing pitchers, instead it's a bunch of really good guys who'll typically fly under the radar. Sort of a "quality in quantity" approach.

I’ve been so happy with the lack of bias this year, but then you went and put Edwin Diaz at #1. Diaz didn’t pitch last year, so that should immediately DQ him. But fine, there’s some bias, let’s say it doesn’t. Edwin Diaz has had two full seasons where he’s been truly dominant: 2018 and 2022. And you used to say that these were based on like the last three years, so let’s do that. In 2021 he had some bad luck but he had an ERA at 3.45, a solid FIP and WHIP but not best reliever in the game level. In 2022 he was the best reliever in the game, no one is going to argue that. And then in 2023… he contributed nothing, injured all year. I just want to throw in a reminder that back when you’d say the last three years, you’d say last year was the most important. Let’s look at your #2, Josh Hader over the last three years. Yes, his 2022 was really bad. He was surrounded by trade rumors and then traded to a brand new team in a brand new atmosphere, but yeah, 2022 was awful. But in 2021 and 2023 he was the best reliever in baseball, no question. Y’know, like Diaz was in 2022. In both 2021 and 2023 Hader’s ERA was lower than Diaz’s 2022 ERA. In 2021 his WHIP was lower than Diaz’s 2022 WHIP too. Diaz’s 2022 WHIP was better than Hader’s 2023 WHIP, and he had a better FIP in 2022 than Hader has ever had, those would be valid points. And no one is arguing that Diaz isn’t a great pitcher. But Hader is too. His peaks have been at a minimum comparable to Diaz, and again, crucially, HE PLAYED THIS SEASON. I know I’m ranting but honestly I’ve been so happy with the lack of bias and then seeing Diaz at #1 here was just crushing to me
