Lifetime Giants Fan here. That game was incredible, hats off to the Dodgers for a well played game. Literally any other outcome than what happened Thursday night would have left me satisfied. Strike out looking down the middle. Homerun caught at the wall. Literally anything. The Giants by all accounts had a improbable season and I was just enjoying the ride like hell, but for it to be ended by a clear no swing call FOR THE ENTIRE SERIES. That's rough man. The Dodgers earned the W, but the umps gotta let the Giants themselves make the final out.

My favorite thing about the way the NLDS ended, is Dodger fans trying to justify it as "karma" for the July 22nd game. Let's compare the elimination game of a playoff series to the ending of a game from the regular season for two teams that would make the playoff either way.
@markmayate8923

thing is (and im not a dodgers fan) it would have put the dodgers in first place provided everything went the way it did, meaning the dodgers would have had home field advantage and the giants would have had to play in the wild card. it isn't karma but a couple of "checked" swings can change everything.

Of course this is all moot because the Dodgers didn't win that game, and if the balls and strikes had been called correctly in that Ruf at-bat then he would have walked anyway.

The Giants season ended I July when LA got Max and the Giants didn’t add pitching. At the end of the day the Giants lost because they didn’t have the arms to keep up with LA. Even look at Game Three. Yes the Giants won but LA had Max go what 7 or 8 innings meaning the pen was rested for Game s 4 & 5. My fear all year was there just wasn’t enough pitching for us to match up with LA or potentially MIL in October. Turned out to be true.

The strike zone calls are tough. Sometimes you just miss one. A lot of these are terrible. But out of context it’s tough too because the biggest issue with umps is consistency. As long as they aren’t horrible and have a consistent zone, players will adapt and be ok with it. It’s when out of the blue an ump calls pitches they haven’t called all game that causes a problem.

That Padres vs Marlins game had Doug Eddings behind the dish. Same home plate ump in SF LA game 5. I hope he starts getting more flack because anytime you make a reaction to a poor strike call, he expands the zones on hitters. He did that to SD the whole game out of a fractured ego. Did that just recently in the NLDS game with Bryant. MLB is too cowardly to deal with the umpires union. The umpires union has too much of a fragile ego to deal with their own.

I think umps hate the jays because they have to deal with border patrol every week

The fact the Jays one where Gurriel “fouled it off” that lost the Jays the game isn’t here is ridiculous

@@gothard5 true. True. I just think that one that cost the Jays the game was more important than a missed strike call in the 3rd inning

a bad call was made in the Braves - Brewers series where after a deflection the ball barely hits the ground but is ruled caught for an out. Somehow it's not reviewable i have no idea why. Kind of a shame it hit the ground as it would've been a pretty cool play

I forgot about this. Balls fielded in foul territory aren't reviewable, which is absurd, esp in the postseason.

I wonder if the ump in the Giants Dodgers game even saw the check swing. He may have actually just flipped a coin on that one

Great video but 100% not the same umpire as the other Dodgers Giants game that blew the call on the Ruf check swing

Look up the Erick Aybar check swing call in the 2014 ALDS. I definitely broke some things in my house when i saw it live.

Robot umpires. This guy is asking for robots. This is like football (soccer) fans wanting VAR despite the terrible decisions it has made.
