The dark knight is definitely his best film but if you ask me out of the CBM movies No film of his touched me like the way Interstellar did, god knows why critics werent raving a lot about it like his other work. For me its a cinematic masterpiece that blends sci-fi and emotions perfectly.

Nolan deserves every bit of praise for making audience sit up and take notice of a comic book character. Until Dark Knight no one could have thought that a superhero movie would fascinate people for ages to come. Joker and the way Heath Ledger portrayed it changed my perception about how impactful an antagonist can really be! If it would not have been for Joker's unbridled madness that he unleashed on Gotham, we could never have seen Batman's psychological struggles and perhaps never would have empathized with him to the extent we did!!

false. at the time of its release (2006), the prestige did not captivate so many people. it was reviewed positively (but not enthusiastically) by critics and earned just 110 millions (very few for Nolan's standard, and not enough to yield any net income for WB, given that it costed 40 millions). it is a cult movie, which acquired recognition only with time. without doubts, the "breakout movie for nolan captivating everyone around the world" is the dark knight: praised by critics, loved by audiences, endlessly imitated and lauded by other filmakers.

People don't realize what Nolan was able to achieve with Dunkirk. He basically invented a new editing technique where he not only intercuts between different scenes but different timelines of the same place with same characters but at a different time of the day with different perspectives. The fact that he was able to achieve this, which looks impossible on paper, without it feeling jarring is an achievement in itself.

To be really honest, The Prestige isn't appreciated enough! As a matter of fact, Christopher Nolan left Warner Bros because of the difference between them regarding HBO max, shows that how passionate, persistent and stubborn he is to make a cinema that should be enjoyed on big screen rather than just do a project and release it wherever you want. Warners did lose a gem. Their loss is Universal Pictures gain. Atleast they'll have a good credible director to bank on rather than that cash grab "Fast" series.

I think for me Insomnia is an underrated gem. Even after being a remake, it actually takes the stake higher. The way Nolan used the Sunlight as a character in the whole movie was actually jaw dropping. The chemistry between the two cops, the worried Hilary Swank, who idolises Al Pacino, but upon getting to know his deeds, and she falls into a trap of thoughts about good and bad is worth applauding. Also another best part of the film was how, Robin Williams played the negative role. Adding to it was the cinematography. The bridge scene, the boat sequence and the last car ride of Al Pacino were some of the standouts. I think, I saw this film after I saw Memento, so I wanted to see something which had twists, but it gave me something much more. Insomnia is a rare gem for me. ❤

Christopher Nolan's films have always intrigued me with their intricate storytelling and mind-bending concepts. It's interesting to see how some of his works, like 'The Prestige' and 'Insomnia,' have been relatively underrated in discussions about his filmography. These hidden gems offer unique perspectives on obsession, duality, and the human psyche. As a fan, I can't help but wonder what it would be like to witness the collaboration between Nolan and the talented Andrew Garfield. Garfield's versatility as an actor, combined with Nolan's visionary storytelling, could create an extraordinary cinematic experience. Although it's important not to make direct comparisons, just as Nolan revolutionized Hollywood cinema, I believe that directors like Lokesh, with their distinct approach and potential, have the power to transform Indian cinema. It's exciting to think about the impact Lokesh could make, not by competing with Nolan, but by bringing his own unique vision to the table."

For me Interstellar is and will be Nolan's best work to date. Interstellar is cinematic brilliance at its best. Hans Zimmer's genius makes it even more compelling. Dark knight comes very close. If you have witnessed this spectacle in IMAX then you'll know what I'm talking about. Not to mention the space scenes were shot using props and minimal use of CGI will make you wonder how does Nolan do that. And the emotion that the film carries with respect to its characters! Cooper and murph's parenting dilemma, Cooper and Mann's fight for survival, Cooper and Brand's arc and not to mention the scientific accuracy. It just propels the film to such dizzying heights which compels you to think and introspect. What a masterpiece! My favourite Hollywood film of all time.

I still know the feelings when interstellar came out. Before that, my non-STEM friends thought that I was weird, but after that, they could see the beauty of physics in the way that I saw and the only reason for that was that Nolan creates these spectacles, which people talk about not understanding, but the main drawing point is his ability for those who don't understand the movie to be motivated enough to give it a couple of rematches as well.

My fav is The Dark Knight but I feel Memento is the most path-breaking film he has ever made - with a low budget compared to other films. Insomnia is his weakest film - Following has a rich subtext and probably on par with Insomnia. Memento is a mind-boggling achievement - in terms of narrative structure, themes of memory, guilt, and revenge intertwined in such a way that no one could predict what happened. It is one movie that puts the viewer in the position of the amnesiac patient coz even we don't know what's going on. the murder at the start and the denouement at the end is heart-breaking - how the main character's memory makes him go on a revenge spree while other characters use this trait for their selfish benefits. It is the first movie that makes us think about the fallibility of our own memories and how they shape our lives. I can actually point out many aspects of its brilliance in how the screenplay played it out - how he superimposed his own forgetfulness in another character when narrating the story of the fat man and his wife. It is tragic, heart-wrenching, and positively, one of the genre-defining thrillers ever made. Interstellar for all its brilliance is lost in exposition in some parts. The Prestige and The Inception are on par imho. My ranking: The Dark Knight Memento The Prestige Inception The Batman Begins Interstellar The Dark Knight Rises Tenet Dunkirk Following/ Insomnia He has a great short film called Doodlebug which is astounding in itself - starring the same actor who is in Following

I am not sure where I read this Post but there was a theory of comparing Nolans movies to Infinity stones. Actually it is the other way around. Most of his films are about time Momento - Man remember for a short time, as the movie goes forward in time but the story goes backwards in time. Inception - time runs slow in dreams than the reality. Interstellar - man experience ages or run time faster or slower when he nears large objects/gravity Tenet - time can go backwards in reality 😂 Other lesser mentions of time in his movies: Insomnia - irrespective of time sun shines all the time Dunkirk - here story of multiple people going parallel in time The Prestige: Not time related but ability to teleport instantly (time) Batman series is the least affected by time but he tries choppy screenplay & past story has a significant impact on the character.

I kinda disliked how Nolan used to place his shots in th early stages of his career and there used to be a lot of exposition in movies like inception etc which i love by the way. But it was Dunkirk for me which ensured that he's easily one of the greatest of all time where the movie was a great example of visual storytelling.

He revived the superhero genre and DC with the Dark knight trilogy. And his movies are visually stunning & use of practical effects is top notch. Another Great factor in his movie is the soundtrack. Hans Zimmer often gives his best with Nolan and even Ludwig Goransson was superb with Tenet.

Both films became part of my favourites ever, but it never really occured to me who the director of these films were. It was after Inception that brand Nolan really took hold of my mind and I looked what other films he had made beside the Dark Knight trilogy. I was so shocked and felt so stupid that I never checked who the made those films.

Tenet is the classic example of one of those films which are very high concept and the makers were so in awe of that they forget basic things like interesting characters, building stakes, emotional connect etc. RYAN GEORGE’s tenet pitch meeting perfectly sums up that movie.

This.this is why for many it is weak. The concept is brilliant, I found myself watching psychics KZfaq but that was the problem.. the concept on entropy is amazing abut the execution of a human story was weak.. for the reasons you listed. Have a protagonist that is so forgettable and only Rob pat was interesting, but honestly I completely forgot about that movie I was so disappointed. Also the movie itself is very simple, again it’s only execution that makes it convoluted. If you stop seeing it as time travel and see it as a linear story where you hop to the past to go forward it makes it clear.

For me Batman begins is very underrated. Mainly due to the quality and performances in it's sequel, The Dark knight. The origin story of Batman, the most complex of super heroes and how he finds inspiration, chooses his symbol, the motivation behind his choices, struggle with managing his image as Bruce Wayne and his responsibility as Batman, his relationship with Alfred and his evolution into a legendary superhero is unique and riveting. It's a classic and despite so many quality Marvel movies and few DC movies, and local Indian superhero movies like Kkrish and Minnal Murali, Batman Begins is probably the best ever superhero origin movie.

Although the cast and everything makes The Dark Knight most of the crowds favorite and rightly so it is an impeccable movie. But I think Nolan is most comfortable when he gets to play with the elements such as time. Although Tenet was sort of a misfire that required us audience to be prepared with notes and what not. I agree with all of them; I had not seen Batman Begins, and I saw The Dark Knight because we had to kill a few hours before our train to Bangalore for a team project. And we could not fathom what we just saw, it was peak cinema and every dialogue, soundtrack and story line kept us on the toes. Imagine watching this movie without reading any reviews or knowing anything about Nolan, just going in thinking, let's pass time with a good old super hero movie. I can still vividly remember some of those fantastic moments the movie took us through and it gets better when I play "Like a Dog Chasing Cars" by Zimmer. I later saw it in IMAX dome at Wadala when it came out, glad I got to see it before they shut down the dome. Haven't missed any of Nolan's movies ever since.

Agree with your point on Tenet. Dunkirk/Interstellar movies had a complicated story line but at the end of the movie , I had a satisfaction of watching a spectacle eventhough I didnot fully understand some of the science explained but Tenet was painfully tiring to watch. Someone needs a rewind button in the theatres to pause and then go back and understand a scene and move forward. Hopefully oppenheimer is not that complicated that one needs youtube to understand it
