Honestly I feel unleashed is 50% night and 50% day. It just depends on who plays it because night stages take 2-7 minutes to beat for me.

Unleashed was slow at so many points, but honestly it felt so worth it making to the final boss. Then the final boss killed me so many times that I couldn’t finish the game XD Looking back still worth it for those day time stages and bosses before the final boss!

Unleashed is one of those games where it requires you to master the stages in order for it to be fun And this is coming from someone who's had this game since launch, ever since I was a little kid. On a first playthrough, it can be brutal. Especially the werehog and medals. But if you take the time to master the combo list and properly upgrade the Werehog, it's a really fun brawler, and the day stages are so satisfying if you can get a smooth run with an S rank.

Honestly, I really like the treasure hunting levels in SA2. It's not just waiting for your radar to blink, it's memorizing the level elements and using the hints to track down the exact location as fast as possible.

Unleashed is incredibly polished and easily the best game in the series imo

I'm not a sonic fan but sonic unleashed Is a great game overall the levels are pretty fun The music is great.

My main problem with the night stages in unleashed is how it doesn't force you to pull off different combos- which leads to people doing the same move over and over- and then blaming the game for having "boring combat".

Not gonna lie, i actually have a bit of a soft spot for Forces. It's the first Sonic game I ever played, as i didn't really get into the series until quarantine, and because of that i didn't really have any expectations going into it and ended up finding it pretty enjoyable because of it. Of course now, having played many other Sonic games, i know that Forces really doesn't hold up against them. But, since it was my first one, rather than being disappointed by it I just see it as letting me appreciate the other games more. Also, very happy to see that most people agree that Generations is one of the best games in the series. That game is awesome. I just wish the final boss was a bit better

Been a while since I caught one of your videos but congrats on 40k. My best 3D Sonics are a pretty generic answer. Colours and Generations. I like Adventure 1 despite some ageing. The rest I could do without.

Mainly disagreed with Sonic Unleashed but I can agree with the other placements, here’s my list including SD Unleashed and 3DS Lost World: 13: Sonic 06 (Definitely not a shocker) 12: Secret Rings 11: Black Knight 10: Forces 9: 3DS Lost World 8: Wii U Lost World 7: SD Unleashed 6: Colors 5: Heroes 4: Adventure 1 3: Adventure 2 2: HD Unleashed 1: Generations (The top 2 are mainly tied) Also if you included Shadow the Hedgehog as a 3D Sonic game, it would probably be near Forces

The cutscenes in Sonic Adventures are beyond legendary, I mean the amount of KZfaq poops based on them is amazing

Sonic Adventure 2 will probably always be my favorite sonic game. Generations is a very close second. I don’t like the knuckles and rouge stages, but I love the sonic and shadow stages and enjoy the mech stages. What puts SA2 above Generations for me is the story and chao world. Why has the chao world never returned? It’s awesome, and even as an adult, I still love it

I have sonic unleashed since i was a kid for the ps2. It's a great game. I enjoy both the day and night stages. It just feels so damm satisfying when beating up the enemies in the night stages. The music is great. And damm those cinematic are awsome and make the sonic movies look like nothing.

Halfway through and the fact you have Unleashed below Lost World is crazy to me lmao. To each their own tho.

The reason I place SA2 higher than SA1 is because the playable characters, despite only have 3 gameplay styles instead of 6 like in SA1, feel much more fleshed out with far more to do. Sonic Adventure 1 clearly revolved mainly around Sonic with the other characters feeling like an afterthought, with much shorter or fewer levels. The characters get half the amount of game time at most that Sonic gets with characters like Tails, and hardly a quarter of it with characters like Amy. This sucks cause, with the exception of Big (and I really don't like that Big is in this game), these characters are super fun to play with. If SA1 let you play as all the characters in Sonic's stages then that would make up for it, but they don't. You can mod the PC version to do it, and it's a fun time. I consider SA1 a good game that should have been great but they didn't utilize it's full potential when developing it. SA2 is a solid package that both improves and unfortunately worsens a few aspects of SA1 and the treasure hunting took a long time to get used to but I like that game so much more now because it feels so much more complex than SA1. Mad Space is genuinely a terrible level, however.

I might be biased and I respect your opinion, but one thing about Sonic Unleashed I disagree on is the idea that it should have a level select. I personally love the hub world and while I may not talk to the NPCs that much when it isn't necessary, I think giving the players a choice to do that is pretty nice and I don't think the parts where you have to talk to NPCs are that obtrusive or long. I like it for the immersion and story purposes, if that makes sense. It helps you understand the world you are traveling and get attached to it, so you have more of a motivation to save it. Also, I love that the places you travel are based on real life places and I think it's just nice and relaxing to hang out in them before you get to the actual levels. That's just how I see it, though. I understand that if you already don't like stuff in this game, the hub world might make the issues feel worse.

1. I 100% agree with everything you said about Unleashed. I never understood all the hate it got. Sure the Werehog levels felt like they took a long time, but imo, it was an interesting change of pace. Seriously, until Generations came out, I haven't had so much fun playing a Sonic game since Heroes. 2. Speaking of Heroes, while I WILL admit that it's a mess as I'm looking back on it, it was (imo) what I think a Sonic game should be like: Fast paced and quick on your toes. I also liked the idea of having to think of the best and quickest way(s) to beat your enemies and I like games like that. 3. My reasons for preferring SA2 over SA1 is the story and "high speed linear action", but mainly the character development for everyone, especially Shadow. I was 16 when SA2 came and from the moment I saw Shadow, I instantly loved him. Back then, he had such a mysterious vibe and I LOVED it.

Sonic lost world has a 3DS version, it has less stages I think, but you can unlock super sonic through special stages and utilizes wisps

As someone who grew up with the PS2 version of Unleashed, I liked that version and that it excels over the HD in some areas. No forced medal collecting as in the PS2 version it's just for collecting goodies in Gaia Gates. Eggmanland, dreadful and too too long in the HD one, is split into several mini missions. The night levels are basically 3 to 5 mini levels at like 8 min at most from my experience as opposed to like 30 min on the HD version. Graphically the HD one is better but I think both versions are fine. The werehog concept and execution sucked ass tho. I hated that. Who asked for sonic with combat? He's about speed. You can replace the night levels with Knuckles brawler levels and it would be way better. I still think Unleashed is a 50/50 game at best, a game that has more flaws than goods.

You should have tried the PS2/Wii version. I had a lot of fun with it and I honestly think that although it is considered the "secondary" version, it is still the most balanced and I'm not really in the mood to describe more of the game right now, but I can tell you this: none of those problems you mention actually exist in that version, only the graphics are obviously simpler and the game design is more adjusted to the respective consoles aswell (so you may like the day stages less if you compare with the better-console version), but you probably will like the night stages more (I personally do like them much, much more).

Honestly, play the ps2/wii version of Unleashed. It may not be as graphically impressive but gameplay wise it is far more enjoyable due to it being more streamlined and simplified.

I am under the honest to god belief that Secret Rings and even Black Knight could be AWESOME with modern controls. Cut out all the experimental motion BS and you're left with a solid story, great music and possibly awesome movement!

personally i cant agree with unleashed for 2 reasons, 1. it was below sonic lost world, 2. i don't think the levels are too fast. in fact i feel they're perfect speeds because it allows replayability in the sense that you learn the level and then the satisfaction of speeding through these locations without hitting anything to stop you

Love how half the bad stuff about Unleashed is exclusive to the HD version and I completely agree with those problems. The Wii/PS2 version is much superior, trust me. The Night stages tend to be broken up and the longest I remember spending on one is 13 minutes(as opposed to a half hour), the final boss is much more fun to fight, the hub world visits are made much shorter since it's just a menu where you talk to people(and can skip text if you like) then head into the Gaia Temple. Yeah, there is some filler missions in there but I'll take those over the problems in the HD version any day. I highly recommend the SD Version of Sonic Unleashed. Also, Eggmanland is not 50 friggin' minutes on the SD Version. It's several levels like a traditional Sonic game. Also, placing Forces above Black Knight is the highest level of disrespect you can give any game in the series unless it's 06, Rise of Lyric, or Secret Rings. Black Knight has it's issues but at least it's story is entertaining and doesn't have Sonic downplaying "being imprisoned and tortured for months" in Forces. These are just my opinions. Not trying to hate or try to change anyone's mind here I'm just giving my 2 cents on these two. Also... Hmmm, I'd probably swap the placements for Lost World and Heroes purely on the basis that 'uneven difficulty and control quirks' seems way less damning than 'control is wildly imprecice and basic gameplay doesn't fucking work half the time.'

Sonic Adventure 3 could be peak 3D Sonic if it has the linear structure of Sonic Adventure 2 (no hub worlds), but with the character selection of Sonic Adventure 1 where you just play through the entire game as that character with no fluff/filler in between. They could just have Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy as the hero characters, and then have Shadow, Eggman, Rouge, and Omega for the dark characters. And as for playstyles: Sonic and Shadow would have their speed levels. Tails and Omega would have more open levels all about explorations where they can use their flight abilities to get around the place. Knuckles and Rouge would have their treasure hunting levels. Eggman would have the mech shooting, but he would use different machines depending on the level. Amy's levels could be more puzzle focused, and she would use her hammer of course.

Saying a Sonic game is a bit too fast is like saying Dead Space is a bit too scary, or Skyrim is a bit to open world, or Doom is a bit too action packed. It doesn’t make sense. There is a level select in Unleashed when you beat the game.

Most people say Adventure aged poorly because of the fact they grew up with the DX version, which for some reason they based every port from that point on with which is dumb. The game has worse graphics and effects than the original, with stuff like the lighting engine being replaced and textures being replaced with worse versions or new ones that also look bad or boring. Although, there has been an attempt to save the reputation of the game through restoration mods, which make the game look like the Dreamcast version and sometimes even better, with widescreen, optimised 60fps and remaking some of the features DX added into better ones. An example is a HD version of DX's water graphic, which looks better than the original and fits the renders well.
