I have binged every single one of this dude's tier lists. I love the way he expresses certain ideas and concepts. The way this dude's brain works, accented by his vocabulary, just comes off as really hilarious sometimes. Like him going into a passionate rant about the quality of technical writers for barbeque construction had me cracking up so loud.

So if somebody had a stroke and suddenly can’t use the left side of their body, we teach them how to get dressed and washed, brush their teeth, feed themselves again! Photography itself isn't very hard, it's just pressing a button, anyone can do it, but that's also what makes it hard. You need to find a way to stand out. Creating something unique that other people want to look at isn't easy. Just like how anyone can stream on twitch, but being interesting enough for people to care is really hard. I started doing landscape photography as a hobby a few years ago and I have definitely come to appreciate professional photographers. At least for landscape photography, scouting and researching spots, traveling, taking the photo, editing, and networking is all part of the job. I probably wouldn't want to do it full time because it's exhausting and it doesn't pay well unless you're a youtuber. That's why I do comp sci lol

Anyone can be a photographer, but really people should think of it more as a trade. You learn or study, or both. You maybe apprentice / learn from others in the field, you can have a full career with some absurd amount of hours under your belt - and still never be at a "red seal" level. A master is a master. I think NL's POV on it, is actually super on point! It feels like anyone can do it, and they can. Any of us could grab a camera and learn to take a beautiful picture - the technical skill is translatable for mostly anyone with the means, But not everyone has the drive to plan perfect shots or eye of a master - and that's super normal. Same reason IMO, most content creators have a hard time holding a candle to NL's banter. He's just masterful at it.

I think one of the most important things is how happy these careers tend to make people. I’m a retail pharmacist, I see angry people every day argue with me because their insurance company doesn’t cover said medication. If I didn’t spend 8 years to get here I wouldn’t be a pharmacist.

When he started talking about accounting and combing through sheets of information for numbers like we don’t use dext to extract that info almost all the time lol. The job mostly isn’t hard, until it is though. Also it’s constant learning if you want to get good at it and stay good at it.

I wish the list of options wasn't so ass. There's so many things missing. And not even just single jobs but entire fields of work. Like in athletics: pro athlete, pro sport coach, pro trainer, personal trainer for a local gym, physical therapist, athletic trainers (the ones on the field in the game). You could lump half of those in with each other and still have a decent list, but it just doesn't put any of them in. Plus no (small)business owner which could cover for half of the shitty jobs out there. I feel like half the people that watch are just gonna be like "well I guess I'm not on here"

For anyone that listens to NL's take on photography and wants examples of some extremely well done photos (especially ones that are not just a sunset), I higly reccomend checking up the archive collection of World Press Photo. They create contests every year on a variety of subjects, and its a great place to view some great examples of good photography work. As someone that also works with photography, it was funny listening to NL's take on the profession, but it is also nice to get to know more about fields that you are not familiar with.

According to alums from my Software Engineering program from about 20 years ago, most of them rarely code anymore but it's kinda like being a teacher. They still have to help people debug and stuff. So the legwork goes away but you still have to have a good understanding of how to code because you are the fallback person for the rest of your team.

a financial advisor is basically a salesperson for investments. If you don't like selling something to someone you may not like it. A big part of this job is making contacts with other professionals or clients that can refer you business. When you start, you may be doing things like hassling your friends and relatives or doing cold calls on whatever leads you may have.

As a construction worker, it's VERY funny to me that they put "construction" under 1 banner, when in reality it's like 60 different trades, all working together to try and complete one goal. Drywallers, Pipefitters, Plumbers, Electricians, Sheet Metal Workers, Painters, Carpenters, ect. ect. The fact that only like 3 of those were on the list is appalling to me.
