Gyarados is based specifically on the legend of the seiruyuu, a famous and beloved Japanese legend about a carp who scaled a waterfall where all the other carp failed and gave up. The one who made it to the top was rewarded by the gods by being turned into a water dragon. That's where the idea for its line comes from, and why it evolves from Magicarp.

He forgave the ray as soon as the barb pierced him, at 0 point did he get upset and at no point would he had to forgive it, for he never held any ill feeling. Rest In Peace Steve Irwin, you were a hero to conservation efforts every were and your work still helps to this day.

EchoedThunder in gen 3 it gets bite upon evolution, I don’t know for the rest of the generations, but bite is a good move and he sweeps misty (I speak from personal experience on a nuzlocke I did)

Except for the sharks. Sharks and fish are completely separate branches of the evolutionary tree. They only look similar because of convergent evolution.

As far as I know, Magikarp is based on a Japanese legend according to which a Koi jumped up a waterfall and as reward for its perseverance it was turned into, wait for it, a dragon! So while Gyarados is not a dragon type (likely because that would op it), it is still very much based on a dragon and not a fish. It is understandable, though, that you would want it in this list, since it's just too cool to not mention it

It's at the very least a sea serpent with dragon features, like Leviathan, which is still closer to a dragon than a fish, but Gyarados gets fish points for Evolving from a fish, namely Magikarp.

That legend is Chinese, but yes, that is definitely what Gyarados is based on, and therefore it is a dragon, not a fish.

I loved finneon and lumineon's design when they first came out but I was disappointed when they didn't get additional fairy type in gen six. I don't have anything against pure water types, but I tend to go dual water types

Here's something interesting! Remoraid is based off of a revolver. Octillery is a bazooka. Mantine with Remoraid resembles a fighter jet with a machine gun attatched.

the elektrik line is based heavily off the lamprey fish while remoraid is based off the remora fish, which attatches itself to other big fish to remove parasites. This actually explains why remoraid usually stick with mantine. Huntail is based off the gulper/ pelican eel due to its lure tail and larger mouth to body ratio.

6:12 The last time I saw Lumineon was actually today. I caught a Finneon (I have an actual pokemon game now!) and searched "Lumineon" on google because I wanted a refresher on what its evolved form looks like. and the last time before that was years ago when I had this huge book with information on every single pokemon and yeah I was just flippin pages then I saw it lmao Same exact situation with Finneon. As I said, I caught one today and the last time I saw it was in that pokemon book. edit: I'm glad you like the Horsea line! Seahorses are my favorite sea creature of all time and those pokemon are based off of them so it was basically love at first sight! Even though you probably don't love them as much as I do, I'm glad you have a positive opinion towards them :)

I'm glad I'm not the only one who had weird misconceptions about Pokémon's anatomy such as thinking Carvanha's mouth was the star thing. For example, I also thought Diglett's nose was its mouth for the longest time.

My first Pokémon game ever is Pokémon Sword, and a have very good memories of my Gyarados jaws. I fished him up when he was a level 15 magikarp, and my goldeen did enough raids to turn my magikarp into a Gyarados! He was the best Pokémon on my team, and after about half the game I took him off my team for a while, but recently, I decided to get Jaws out of the box (even though I have a shiny Gyarados,) and then reset his ivs, ev trained him in sp. attack and speed, and got him to level 100. That is basically why I love Gyarados.
