OutKast’s catalogue is so good because there are so many possible valid rankings. Honestly, ATLiens, Aquemini, and Stankonia I think could all be their best depending on who you are.

I believe “southernplayalistic” is better than “speaker box love below” It’s way more consistent and just good 90s rap music Atliens is my favourite and their most consistent project Aquemini has some of their most important tracks on it but towards the back end of the album I found it dropped off ever so slightly And stankonia has some of the best production and flows I have ever heard so many bangers and that’s even without “so fresh so clean” and “ms jackson” like you got: gasoline dreams, BOB, humble mumble, ?, red velvet, and my favourite outkast song “explosion”

Agreed with your take on Aquemini. The best songs mostly come in the first half with the exception of Da Art of Storytellin’ Pt. 1 and the quality does dip a bit towards the end. Not a fan of Spottieottiedopaliscious, Liberation and the Mamacita hook.

@@DistantLights I just never got the appeal of Spottieottiedopalicious even though I understand it’s a fan favourite. I don’t get what they were trying to do though…like the beat is great but they aren’t rapping or singing. They’re just talking over the beat. I also like the beat on Liberation but I’m not a fan of the singing on there…plus it’s like 8 mins long.

@@badmeetsevil6163 that's cool. I love the bassline and the horn parts of Spottieottiedopalicious, the atmosphere of the song. Reminds me of Marvin Gaye, imo, it's one of the great neo-soul tracks of that era. As for Liberation, the message and the haunting vocals make it a standout for me.

it's ok, but I always preferred the original version "Combo No. 5" which was released straight to QuickTime video, before Outkast changed the lyrics and tried to pass it off as their own. if u know u know

This is oddly timely for me. Was listening to Sorry Ms Jackson last night thinking i only ever really listened to Stankonia and their other big singles and that i should do a deep dive on their albums. Wanted a starting point so this'll do (although sounds like i cant really go wrong).

Just do them all in order of release even with idle wild people give it too much slack yh the fact it’s more of a soundtrack brings it down a bit but there’s so many song that you will be dancing to on that album

Honestly I love most all of the albums in OutKast’s discog but I think ATLiens is second to last. It has amazing cuts especially in the second half, but I think a couple of the hooks in the first half fall flat on their face (Wheelz of Steel, Elevators, etc)

Idlewild slander is undertsanble, but it's not a bad album. It's just not as good as the others. I love Morris Brown and the Train. Two of my favorite songs of all time

Surprised to see Aquemeni so low. It was one of (if not the) first southern rap albums to get 5 mics from The Source. That was back when they didnt just give that out to anyone either. But it is your list so i cant necessarily say youre wrong. I would just put Aquemini at #1, Stankonia at 2, 3&4 is interchangeable between SPCM & ATLiens, Speakerboxxx/Love Below, Idlewild. Also put that greatest hits album they released in the early 2000s that had "The Whole World" in there above Idlewild. I only say that because, yes it was a "Greatest Hits" album but there were 4 or 5 new/unreleased songs on there that were very good.

I also prefer Aquemini to Stankonia or ATLiens. I’d say Aquemini, Stankonia (was a kid when that was everywhere), ATLiens, Speakerboxx/Love Below, SPCM, and then Idlewild which is just a soundtrack so I don’t hold it in high regard despite some good songs.

Stankonia (many of the duo’s highest highs are on this album, but it’s not as consistent as the above three) 5. Speakerboxx/Love Below (creative as hell & bloated as hell) 6. Idyllwild (duh)

I wish Idlewild got more appreciation, it’s the first album I heard and I still fell in love with the music. For me the worst album is definitely the Love Below, but if I couldn’t split the double album I guess it’d have to be Idlewild.

@@bloodymarshal yeah and i still stand on that, and im a huge outkast fan who listens to them more than ye. kendrick is arguable but ye is a no brainer, even IF you think outkast has higher highs, the sheer amount of classics ye has just straight up outnumbers outkasts. dropout trilogy, 2010's ye (mbdtf, wtt, yeezus, tlop), wyoming era (ye, ksg) even his 2020's albums are a good addition to his discography. southernplayalisticadillacmuzik and atliens are good but are outkasts lows. stankonia and aquemini are peak, cant say much on speakerbox the love below, that album is bloated.

never could really get into outkast. I tried listening to Stankonia because everyone said it's their best, but I was pretty underwhelmed with it. A lot of the tracks were hella mid. If that's their best, what's the point of exploring their other stuff?

For me it's ATLiens > Aquemini > The Love Below > Stankonia > Speakerboxxx > southernplayalisticadillacmuzik > Idlewild

I should probably address some of these placements. I think Stankonia is an even more inconsistent listen than the douple LP Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, with some overly weird low lights such as Toilet Tisha and I'll Call B4 I Cum. I think it has aged worse than the albums before it. Don't get me wrong, still a great album. On the other hand, I find The Love Below to an incredibly heartbreaking and eloquent introspection into the meaning of love in the modern era, executed better than most projects with a similar theme. It is actually LONGER than Stankonia and has perhaps two of Outkast's biggest hits, so I don't think it's an unfair comparison at all.

ATLiens is my #1 Outkast album. Sure it was my first but it's what got me hooked on them.

Love Below is thee best Outkast albums and its not even close. Andre positioning himself somewhere between Shuggie Otis & Todd Rundgren creating idiosyncratic funky quirky powersoulpop, probably too strangely melodic for Antwan which never was his main thrill
