I just found your channel. I love it. Great list here with the rankings. The original RE1 was indeed amaze balls in 1996. There was nothing like it. At the time it was 10/10 in every category. Voice acting was still new for games so it was a treat to just get it instead of text. Was so immersive. The Remake is a much better way to play the first RE for newcomers though.

Totally with you on RE5. Played it many times with my youngest son's mom. Always had a blast. Years later after she wasn't around, I played 6 many times with my kid, so it has a similar nostalgia.

Resi evil 2 would be a solid 10/10 if Leon and Claire’s stories mixed like they did in original

The Original RE1, RE1 remake, and the Original RE2 are my favorites. I haven't played RE2 remake yet but I think I'll enjoy it when I get around to it. RE4 is pretty good too.

I totally share your love of Resident Evil 4. Like you, it was my introduction of the franchise also. Playing it in like 5th/6th grade was the absolute best. I hope your pumped AF about the Remake coming out in less than 2 weeks because I know I am! 😂

Resident evil 4 was my intro to the series so that and 3 always just sit at top of my list. I do stan the baker family so i LOVE 7 as well. Great ranking Cody

Glad that you finally did a definitive ranking of all of the canonical games. This is also my favorite video game series and has been since the original came out in 1996. I kind of began to lose interest around RE5 because of the direction the series was taking but the RE2 Remake revitalized my interest and reminded me why I love this series so much. Subsequently, I've been on a Resident Evil binge since then and it really helped me get through the shutdown of last year. Like you, I hadn't played RE0 or RE Revelations 2 at all so I bought and played through those for the first time as well as revisiting some of the others that I hadn't played in years like Code: Veronica. My ranking from worst to best (including originals and REmakes) would be as follows: 15) Resident Evil 6 -- too focused on action, not scary AT ALL and a ridiculously convoluted plot. I never got into this one. It was the only Resident Evil game that I didn't have the urge to replay over the last year. 14) Resident Evil 5 -- where RE began to feel more like Call Of Duty to me than Resident Evil. I liked the later half of the game but the first half was hard for me to get into. 13) Resident Evil Code: Veronica X: -- hadn't played this one since 2001 but gave it another go on the PS4 port. Decent game but just not very memorable in my book. Everything feels like it had been done better in the previous three RE games (even though technically this was intended to be RE3 and Nemesis was supposed to be a spin-off). Also, this is without a doubt the most frustratingly difficult RE game ever. I thought that back in 2001 and my opinion did not change with my most recent playthrough. 12) Resident Evil Revelations -- After being disappointed with the more action heavy direction of 5 and 6, this was a breath of fresh air for me. It felt more in line with the old school games and I liked that. Other than that, I don't remember a whole lot about this one. 11) Resident Evil 0 -- I thoroughly enjoyed it because of the tank controls (which I kind of miss) and the old school RE feel (back tracking, ammo conservation, puzzles etc.) I miss this style of RE, but this story didn't need to be told. 10) Resident Evil 7: Loved the return to horror in the mainline series as well as the return to a single, streamlined story instead of the convoluted mess of RE6. I'm a bit mixed on the grimy environments. It's arguably the scariest RE game, but it just feels a bit gross. I also really liked the puzzles and pacing of this game. 9) Resident Evil: Revelations 2: Like you, I also liked this one quite a bit more than it's predecessor. Not the most memorable storyline, but I liked the way that it was told with the two scenarios. I really felt like this is what RE5 SHOULD have been. It feels a lot like RE4 with the balance of action and horror and I liked the addition of skill upgrades. 8) Resident Evil 3 Remake -- A mixed bag for me. The cut content is this game's biggest downfall. The clock tower scene is my favorite part in the original RE3 and I was very disappointed it was omitted. Nemesis is also under-utilized. But graphically, this may be the best looking RE game and the boss battles were a blast. 7) Resident Evil 8: Village -- Far too easy and at times too derivative of RE4 and not enough scary moments. But like RE4, I really like the adventure feel of this game and I think that is going to make it very re-playable. I liked the puzzles and enemy variety and the scary parts of the game (Casa Beneviento) were truly unnerving. It plays a lot like a Resident Evil greatest hits package. Maybe not very original but from beginning to end it was a lot of fun. 6) Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (1999) -- Even though this was intended to be a spin-off, I find this to be a much more memorable game than CV and a good end to the original trilogy. Nemesis was terrifying not only for the late 90's, but I still think that he is both better utilized and scarier here than he was in the 2020 remake. 5) Resident Evil 4 -- maybe a tad overrated, but a very ballsy reinvention of the series that is still a blast to play today. A decent mix of horror and action, this was the first time that Resident Evil felt like an adventure. 4) Resident Evil Remake -- an absolutely gorgeous game (even by today's standards) that jumped up quite a few spots on my level of enjoyment after a second playthrough during the shutdown. Technically, it's better on just about every level from the original but it can't quite clear the hurdle of my nostalgia for the original. Some of the additions I really liked (crimson head zombies) and others I was a bit mixed on (Lisa Trevor), but no matter how you slice it this is a great game. For the Resident Evil purist, this is arguably THE game. 3) Resident Evil (1996) -- Nostalgia plays a big part of my love for this one but I will never forget what it felt like to play this for the first time. There is something about the mansion that has never been rivaled for me. It had class and elegance but it was also scary as hell (for the time). 2) Resident Evil 2 (1998) -- took everything that I loved about the original and made it better. The A/B scenarios for both lead characters were genius for it's time and, if I am being perfectly honest, this is the one aspect of the game that was done BETTER in the original over the remake. 1) Resident Evil 2 Remake -- completely revitalized my love for the series. It's the perfect mix of nostalgia and reinvention of what had previously been my favorite RE game for many years.

I also have a very special connection to RE5 because of the co-op. I beat the game with my best friend back in high school and recently nearly beat it again with my soon to be fiancé, until we encountered some bugs during the boulder punching level.

RE7 definitely the scariest but loved RE8 because the whole vampires and werewolves was creative turn for the series. Love to see where 9 goes. Maybe Mummies and Pharaohs?

A very important memory for me centers on RE. Sitting on my floor in my bedroom on xmas eve 1999 playing Nemesis while waiting for my uncles aunts and cousins to come over for a party. Very important.

Fun fact for those that maybe didn’t know. Code Veronica was intended to be Resident Evil 3 but capcom promised Sony one more numbered title on their system and so Nemesis got that even though it was always intended to be a spin-off which is why it’s really short and not much beyond the main game other than the mercenaries mode. Good stuff Cody by the way!

Hey Cody, the PS4 version of Resident Evil: Remake has an alternate control scheme which plays more like Devil May Cry, abandoning the tank controls. Totally feels like a much better game, so you might want to check that out! Great ranking video as always though!

Original Resident Evil 3 my favorite RE game of all time and it's sad 3emake don't live up to the original in my humble opinion.

Personally I like how the last few games are 1st person. It makes it scarier which im a fan of. Personally my favorite is village. I love the setting and the way there are 4 bosses with there own area

Idk, I think Resident Evil 3: Nemesis is superior to its remake, especially due to how much of a threat Nemesis was in the original RE3 than in the remake.

I’m a little late for this one but just found your channel recently with your horror movie reviews- in regard to code Veronica CAPCOM recently stopped a fan remake of it, so expect it to come in the next year or two, and for it to be in every fans’ top 3. It deserves a top spot with the settings, story, villains, etc. The controls hurt it a lot, and the technology of the time. They should have given this one an update before they even thought about touching RE4. Btw, CV was originally resident evil 3, but they wanted a trilogy for the PlayStation so they rushed nemesis.

The problem without not being able to really connect with Ethan is cause it is in 1st person which is why in Village choosing the 3rd person perspective adds so much more for me

I have never really played a resident evil game before. I have a oculus quest 2 and they announced they are making a vr version of resident evil 4. I really can’t wait to play it!

I gotta say Resident Evil 7 made me shit myself plenty of times as I played through. Love that game so much. If it fits in your schedule, you should make a list ranking horror game bosses. There's so many cool, scary bosses, from RE to Silent hill, or even games like Outlast. I would love to see your ranking.

Kind of agree. RE4 is a straight-up action horror masterpiece that's aged very well, and it will be a challenge for the remake to beat it - let's see. The original REmake, however, is the best pure survival horror - restrained yet creepy. The tank controls take getting used to, particularly today, but fixed cameras provide a manipulative, cinematic atmosphere that OTS, 1st person or Codename Veronica-style tracking camera don't quite match. Not a massive fan of RE2 Remake - not the same vibe as the 1998 game.

RE4 on the Wii was a awesome. Aiming with the motion controller took it up 3 notches

Resident Evil 2 Remake was the first resident evil for me. It’s what had me into the resident evil series. I love the part where you have to run from Mr X. It was terrifying.

I played them in order as a kid, my uncle would play through too, some of the better childhood memories I have. But yeah man 1 2 and 3 are the best games I've got the hard nostalgia factor though

My list- Best to worst 1. Resident Evil 7 and the DLCs for it. (The 1st Resident Evil I played, and I got the platinum medal for it.) 2. Resident Evil 8- Village and Shadows of Rose DLC 3. Resident Evil 4- Remastered 4. Resident Evil 4 (2005) 5. Resident Evil 2 Remake 6. Resident Evil 3 Remake Now, I love all of these, but I think RE3 remake was a little short and the number of times you fight Nemesis is annoying. Resident Evil 2 Remake was fantastic with Mr. X chasing you around and you worrying if you have enough ammo to kill enemies or you hope you are accurate enough to take down an enemy before running out. It's satisfying to kill an enemy on your last shot instead of missing and the undead is still roaming around, bites you, or kills you. One thing I didn't like is that the zombies would fall and then get back up again...causing me to use more ammo. I like remastered RE4 better than original RE4 because of the better graphics. However, I do like RE4 (2005) because it has the U3 creature and the laser light room. They are both great in my opinion and could flip flop between the rankings. Resident Evil 8 is very good, but I believe it follows the formula for Resident Evil 4. This one could flip flop with RE4 remastered. Resident Evil 7 is what attracted me into the Resident Evil series. The DLC games like "Ethan Must Die", "21" or blackjack, "bedroom", "End of Zoe", and "Not a Hero" are very good. Ethan Must Die is very difficult, but when you get the game and know where things are, it gets easier. "Bedroom" kind of reminds of that film "Misery" and it's like a puzzle game where you have to figure out how to escape. The card game with Lucas is awesome and it's mostly based on luck of the draw when it comes to cards. The trump cards can help you out a lot though. I know a lot of Resident Evils are missing from the list, but these are all of the ones I have played. Thank you for reading.

My mans doesn't hate RE3 remake??? Subbed instantly. The reason most hate it is the reason I love it. That breakneck pace is phenomenal. This video is excellent too, we have a lot of similar placements!

36:40 - Personal top five ranking: 5) Resident Evil 7 (haven't played 8 yet) 4) Resident Evil Code Veronica X (in spite of how much Steve sucks) 3) Resident Evil 2 Original 2) Resident Evil 4 1) Resident Evil 1 Remake ... RE2 Remake WOULD have likely been the best game in the entire series for me except for one giant flaw I just can't overlook: making the A and B scenarios way too similar as opposed to the original. Doing the same major fights both scenarios no matter which character, taking pretty much entirely the same path throughout the police station and definitely with the sewers and the Umbrella lab albeit with different solutions to the puzzles, and finally: cutting out the streets segment from the A scenario of the original game completely here, to where the B scenario in the remake starts his scenario like 30 minutes after the A character has already been running around a good bit of the police station. Absolutely inexcusable. What was the B guy doing all that time, taking a nap in the streets with all the car fires and zombies around before finally deciding to move it to the station? ... But what good there is about the RE2 remake, they did pretty much all of it even better than the original. Claire, Leon, Sherry, Chief Irons, Robert Kendo, the horror atmosphere, the look of the station, sewers, and lab, all of that. Still a good game overall, and probably would be my number 7 in the ranking. Resident Evil 3 Original would be my number 6. The worst one in my ranking: Resident Evil 6 by a long shot.

Code Veronica was supposed to be the actual 3 but a licensing deal with Playstation they legally had to make a set number of games for PS1. So we got what became Nemesis (and I think the light gun game). Code Veronica was originally a Dreamcast exclusive.

I completely agree with this list, and beyond that, I was thrilled to hear that MGS is his favorite game ever. I had to subscribe!

Now for the next ranking you have to track down the old Gun Survivor games lol.

Ok so… I have never watched a video of you ever, this is my first time coming across you because I’ve been looking up resident evil rankings and my thumb literally accidentally clicked your video instead of scrolling. Within 10 seconds into your video I have decided to subscribe for 3 reasons. Literally within the first ten seconds. 1- you curse. 2- a nasty breakdown for an intro theme. 3- an evil dead logo.

Haven't played the new RE games yet, but your list is good. I still put original RE2 above its remake because the story beats were better and the changes with whom you played first or second was more drastic than the remake. Claire A Leon B is the best. My current list until I play the new games are: 1- RE2 2- RE4 3- RE Remake 4- RE3 Remake (Adding Dodge and perks made the game feel more adventure-like compared to RE2) 5- RE2 Remake (Didn't meet my high expectations) 6- RE Original 7- RE5 8- RE3 (Didn't like running from Nemesis and the character concept) 9- RE: Code Veronica 10- RE: Revelations 2 11- RE: Revelations 12- RE6 (Game gives me motion sickness and feels very generic) 13- RE: Operation Raccoon City

Resident Evil 4 is a prime example of capturing action horror perfectly. Love this game to death. I will forever and get it for every console to come out in the future. I totally agree with you Cody. 👍

Resident evil 5 was the first game in the series I played I would be so excited to go round my friends house straight away after school for like a week straight there's still some I need to fully play through like code Veronica, resident evil 0 and mainly resident evil 4

One day I'll do a proper ranking, but I'm still too new to the series to go there just yet. Good video my man! Really happy to see you include Code Veronica and the Revelations titles as part of the mainline series, which they most certainly are. You start the list off with a controversial bang. I mean, Revelations as your least favorite? Did not see that coming! At least RE6 wasn't at the bottom for once...Also glad to see RE5 get some love. It's such a difficult entry, because on the one hand, it almost completely does away with the survival horror atmosphere. Yet, on the other, it has the whole Wesker and bad girl Jill thing which I totally dig! In regards to your top three, I did not expect Village to be in it. I don't know why, I just didn't. I am still formulating opinions on this game. I am not as impressed with the Lycans and feel they are way too on the nose for the series. However, they are mechanically sound. I really like exploring the Village, which is just beautiful. The mountains and sky mind you, not the crappy shacks...it has some amazing sections like Castle Dimetrescu or the shit yourself area that is house Benevieto. Seriously, I was fortunate enough to have had no idea what was coming for that area, no spoilers. Might well be the single scariest moment in all of RE. I also loved Heisenberg's Factory and Sturm. So yeah, Village is the most un-RE game in the series, but it also has some moments that are so well done....I could see this being the most divisive title of them all. As for RE2 Remake, who couldn't gush over that modern masterpiece? RE4 as your number 1 isn't surprising. While I do prefer the more explorative experience over the linear one, RE4 does plenty of great things. It has the best bosses in the series, overall. It balances the action and survival horror. Leon is a badass. Oh and it is has a great amount of content. My most recent playthrough gave me 15 hours of content, not including Seperate Ways. For an RE game, that's alot. Sure, I took my time and searched every nook and cranny for items, but this is an RE game, that should be factored into the runtime! So yeah, good list my dude!

Awesome video. I really appreciate your viewpoint because I can tell how much these games mean to you. I mostly agree with your ranking but for me I would put RE2 remake as number one, village as 2, RE7 as 3, and RE4 as 4. I know RE4 is everyone's number one but to me it is a glorified escort mission. It does have some of my favorite enemies and bosses but it also feels too long. Some of the later areas are miserable to play through and quick time events are almost always a negative. With that said, it is among the best horror games ever made and I still love it, just not as much as some of the others. In my opinion RE2 remake is the greatest survival horror game ever made. You have to play it on hardcore mode for the best experience though. The inventory management, limited saves, and resilience of the zombies prepel this game into the stratosphere. I love how you can kill a zombie in one shot or in 10. You never know how much of your recourses you will have to use in each encounter.
