Hello everyone. Please excuse me for stating what is no doubt going to be an unpopular opinion here, but I saw this and felt I needed to say something. I note again that this is just how I personally feel. Now, I have to say that I disagree heavily here.i do not believe that a character losing makes them more interesting. in fact, I despise the word interesting when it is used in this way because it implies that watching a character be successful, win, or achieve their dreams is boring. Now I understand that there have to be obstacles to reaching goals, but the word interesting is used in such a way as to say that the character themselves sucks because they win all the time. I would rather argue that rather than making the character more interesting to see them lose, it comes more as a surprise than a character defining or life or death (In terms of whether or not we like the character) moment. This is evidenced by the fact that Yugi has tons of fans and he's almost never lost. We won't hate someone just because their good at something, will we? I will argue instead in the favor of loses making the show itself more interesting, rather than affecting the character at all, because then the question becomes, what will they do now, how will the show proceed (Because technically, if the main character were to lose, the show would be over) I will however, say that a character winning is less boring or "Quit the show" worthy, and more a way for us to see their skills and enjoy the show, as well as get excited watching them come up with ways to win. I propose, instead of wanting the character to lose for the sake of "character development" or "Interest", how about making the duels harder, like they do in Vrains. A character coming out if a hopeless situation, all while growing as a person in the process is much more fun than them losing their will to live because they lost, only to miraculously get pepper up and feel better. It's just watching them suffer at that point. (I apologize if I've gotten off topic, but my mind moves too fast for me to catch up sometimes and I don't know how to get out what I'm saying properly. Thank you for reading this and considering my position.)

That's why yuma is more interesting than the others winning every duel gets boring and the duels become predictable that the MC gonna pull out some plot plays and win.

Exactly! Just because a character has a higher win percentage doesn't mean that they are better characters than others... Granted, ranking the characters based on their characteristics is a bit more subjective...

This is why in analytics you'd apply a 'weighting' system to each duel dependant on circumstances. (Ranking of opposition, ranking of protagonist at the time of duel, length of duel, cards played, total LP taken and lost, extenuating circumstances i.e. Kaiba's castle stunt. etc) Then its a better measure to find the average value per X duels (probably per 10 duels is best) If you want to apply a duel volume point score for the "putting themselves out there" portion thats an option too. Would give a far more rational (in analytics speak) values, likely Yugi would be higher up the list for a start.

Heh, Jaden's decks are far worse than Yusei's. Stardust Dragon was a top tier card, the neospacians and elemental heroes without later support are basically unplayable. Neospacians is pretty much unplayable the whole way through. Just watching his 'comeback' duel against Aster makes it really, really clear how his already bad deck somehow got even worse despite the writers trying so hard to make the cards seem powerful.

I think thats a good point honestly. The quality of opponents/circumstances. Yugi is beating champions, the creator of the game who was also a massive cheater and could see yugi's hand and face downs (well, for some of it thanks to a combination of a clever plan and some BS power of friendship at the end) etc, and, with exceptions, mostly fought in tournaments as essentially a professional even if he always had ulterior mtoives for entering. Jaden is a student who fought very heavily against other students and school staff, and villains who are hard to rank given the situation (like geez, at least Marik entered the tournament and didn't just show up going 'ok, time to duel for the fate of the world'. I mean he did that too, but in a tournament setting! He had standards). I mean they are supposed to be intimidating, dangerous duelists with apparently powerful decks/cards...but its so hard to actually judge that since they have no in universe competition history/clout and, to be fair like everybody else in this universe, use shit cards/archetypes/deck lists

Well Jaden Lost like 3 times in the entire series. Yugi/Atem lost less but he has the millennium puzzle which seems to be able to alter luck. And the effects of the cards in the original yu-gi-oh series are often different then the real cards, while in gen-x they are closer to the originals. Jaden doesn’t even have a god card, while Yugi has 3 in the and of the series. So technically Jaden is better

Not to mention his anime had multiple arcs where his actual dueling was kept to a minimum, if at all. And even more crucial, these statistics overlook a pretty big factor - the caliber of the opponents in these duels. Jaden and Yuma had more duels because they didn't last as many episodes, but that in and of itself can be attributed to a lot of their opponents (especially Jaden's) being chumps, whereas Yugi was almost always up against champion-level duelists during the later arcs.

Counting just statistics, Yugi didn't win this one. However, if we didn't just look at statistics, but the Caliber of duelists involved, Yugi would be the number one spot, most likely.

@@Ebon_Sean Yuma dueled a couple chumps at the start, but around the WDC arc, he only swung against heavyweights (minus those brothers that used Magnet cards). Judai dueled a bunch of losers and randos (like that freaking monkey)

He was attending a normal school, and we see that he was also helping with the game shop, and I might be wrong, but it felt like we had spend more time with the other duelists than in GX.

since yuya series (YGO arc-V), YGO is combining some summoning methods in 1 series.... even in Vrains at the first season, there are just advance and link summon (normal and special summon also counts), but at the next season, the ritual, fusion, synchro and xyz come to the vrains..... so i think...... yugi is the best cuz he left the legecy of the duel. (duel monster) also ritual summon were in this series, but it were never used again until zexal (only kaito use ritual "once") jaden had been improving fusion summoning style. while yusei and yuma introducing the new methods of summoning, (synchro and xyz) yuya, triad to combine all the summoning methods with one new pendulum summon. and the playmaker (yusaku) bring a new era of summoning where ritual, fusion, syncrho, xyz, and link summon mastered by a protagonis character (and he might be the most skill full main character after yuya) but, pendulum summon were never exist in VrainS, because it is hard to do pendulum in new rule of YGO nowaday, also in Speed duel at Vrains.

This is not about the video but I feel like it's a major problem that the words on Yu-Gi-Oh cards hurt my head, at first I thought it was because I am so used to the first generation of the Yu-Gi-Oh series, and my brother was using a deck with a kind of summoning that origined in a future gen, I thought my head was hurting because I was confused, because of the fact that my first headache ended a few minutes after taking a break from the game by watching Spongebob, but than after my brother challenged me again, the headache came RIGHT back, so I started talking to my parents about it, and now I know it's because the words on the cards are so small, because it even hurts my head to build a deck, so I guess it's time to get an eye check???

If you grab every characters last deck and had them fight each other I guarantee Atem isn’t winning nor is Yugi bc they are old school. Jaden number wrong. It was a fact in season 3 in dark world. Duelists was captured by the thousands force to duel jaden he beat them all. So jaden had thousands of duels

@@niladrighosh3269 I think those voice actor duels are scripted to purposefully have a winner that the fans would want more and any fan it seems always wants Yugi to win when lets actually answer from your previous comment "Yugi easily wins with the heart of the cards" aka Yugi/Atem only wins since that Mystical Magical Item around his neck uses ancient magic to Cheat and will the very cards they need to win at the very moment they need it (This is a real fact look it up All Millennium Items do this The Puzzle most of all). But lets strip all that away Just Normal Yugi vs. any of the protags, Yugi would lose due to the fact that other Main Protag's decks work faster and bring out big monsters quicker before Yugi can make a big play but that is simply by era of cards. But my main point here is that Without his "Cheating Millennium Puzzle" Yugi would actually lose to some of the other Protags.

@I cry when People say they haven’t seen jojo Of the top of my head i can't but he definitely did somewhere along the line. Jaden made quite a few misplays too maybe not as badly as Yuma but all protagonists have made some misplays somewhere along the lines.

Momentai Jaden's misplays seemed more like gambles that didn't work out. Yuma's were just... Impulsive shots in the dark

@@macenanoro826 It's been a long time since I've watched Yugioh of any variety, I still haven't watched Vrains and I'm not sure I ever finished Arc-V. I also didn't watch most of Zexal because boy Yuma's voice is hard to deal with. So it's been a minute since I've partook in the yugiohs but yeah, looking back on it Jaden's misplays probably were more him trying to do something he wanted to and it just didn't work out rather than him actually goofing on monster effects, but I definitely think there's a few genuine misplays in there I could be wrong though. That might have been what I was thinking about in Yugi's case as well.

@@WXRST99 Any misplays that Yugi or Jaden made were because their opponent hid a card effect from them, not because of noobishness. Yuma was a little too goofy for me, but I liked the scenes when he would be working on new combos to pull off. Most of the other main characters are just made of plot armor.

Most of those losses were pre-Astral though so...

Of all the main characters Yuma is the only one who is introduced to us as a bonafide loser. Always trying to do things he could never accomplish so it makes sense for him to have the worst record. I however don’t believe he is the weakest out of them. Only him and Jayden seem to have that fun passion for duelling you see that especially shine through in Yuma (Jayden went full psychotic) the other protagonists seem super serious to me.

Once the stakes were raised to that, Yuma rarely lost. It was stated in the show that he lost what was most valuable to him. His love for dueling, that's what he lost by opening the door. He only dueled to survive and win. When he dueled for fun, he didn't really care much whether he lost or not. Which is why later on in the series when he does almost lose to someone like Kite who is a real threat, it breaks his spirit along wirh Astral's.

He didnt lost to dangerous people he did lose to shark in episode 10 but shark didin't had a number card so Astral did'nt disapper but he llost to that fat idot more than 20 times

jovan loncar I came to say this. During the anime he needed a 60% winrate to enter the Junior Arc Tournament and only had 56%. This was after his duel with Yuzu in episode two which he had lost but I believe this was winrate was only counting official games (which this list is not) and his duel vs Yuzu would not count towards the 20 addition losses he had before (this is further backed up by his later duels where he won against Hokuto and Reiji’s surrender not increasing his winrate as they were not official duels.) But this would also mean Yuya had another 26 additional wins along with those 20 losses. Meaning his winrate would be 65.09%. A bit unfair to count considering 46 offscreen duels is a lot but that’s the rules we’re playing by here. Edit: This would also make Yuya have the most total duels, at 106.

Yuya is one of the weakest Duelist ever in Yugioh. Without Action cards He would lose almost all of his Duels...

@@rokocvjetanovic I don't think it's really a negative, it's just his preferred style of dueling, he does it for the theatrical flair and entertainment so he never tries to win one-sided except for whenever he is pissed off because he seems to stomp almost everybody when he is angry.

@@skyrider245 I don't think so. He is still weak im normal Duels without Action cards there is no way for him to win against Aster, Jack, Crow and the others. Yuya's dueling skills are bad, He is not good duelist.

Did he? I honestly don't remember that. Edit: You are absolutely correct, The flashback is shown in Episode 2 and not only does Yusei say he lost before the flashback it outright shows him lose.
