Unohana is a sweetheart for sure, shes so caring and helpful. I quite like that she is the one to talk to Aizen when he reveals all, a calm discussion to balance the rage Histugaya had moments before.

I love Unohana. Always does the right thing and so selfless. I know that archtype comes off as boring, but I appreciate it.

Soifon in a way represents the darker shadow of Yoruichi. Both were trained to be assassins their entire lives yet Soifon really let herself get into the role to the point she's willing kill allies or let them die if they even slightly fail whereas Yoruichi is the opposite. Yoruichi never let her status and skills warp her to that point. One knows only how obey orders and end lives while the other does the right thing while wanting to see a better world beyond her old assassin's life.

4:45 Isn’t it also SO genius that Aizen recruits Tousen, because if he didn’t Tousen is the ONE CAPTAIN who is totally immune to Aizen’s hypnosis since he can’t see it. And being able to see the shikai release at least once is a requirement to have the hypnosis work.

It’s interesting to see the perspective of a Captain ranking from an SS Arc perspective. Kubo has so many side characters that have so much depth and story that he explores and its great. Honestly at the end of the series (or hell even after each arc) I’d love to see this get updated

Seeing a Soul Society Arc Captain ranking from a new, fresh perspective is utterly fascinating to me, and I can't wait to see how this list may change in the future.

Yamamoto is personally in my top five mainly because of the fact that he does get a lot more depth and for what he represents in the story. Sui Feng is also really high on my personal list mainly because her story is a lot more personal which I find pretty ironic considering the fact that she's a very hard to like character and that's the intention but to me her being so sheltered and closed off around other people and very abrasive and very hard stuck to the rules is a result of how she feels deeply betrayed by someone who she was very close to being Yoruichi so I can't help but appreciate her character for those reasons. Good list all in all and again really love your content man can't wait for your thoughts on these guys down the line ❤ ☺️ Edit: Grammar fixes

I think it is very likely that Mayuri and Kenny will be able to keep their spots in the top 2. Both are fantastic characters, and they only get better as the series goes on! I am excited to see your thoughts on Komamura, Tosen and Gin as the series continues. All three are really well written.

This is almost a initiation ritual for a Bleach youtuber to make a Captain ranking video, either by fav or power (though that's a very much a having finished series thing since you need certain context info to get accurate rankings). Solid ranking. I knew Mayuri was gonna be either really low or really high on the list. Kenny NEVER disappoints. Personally I would have put Hitsugaya lower and Byakuya maybe a little higher. I think you are going to be very happy with these characters moving forward. Totally do a new ranking each arc.

Been loving this series! Followed Bleach ever since it originally aired so it's been fun to see someone starting the series completely fresh and doing very interesting breakdowns to go along with it. Really excited to see how you feel about some of the major moments in the upcoming arc.

tbh - it's gonna be a very different story for me ranking the soul society 13 squad captains because there's so much you get to know about some of these characters that's just near impossible to ignore when ranking them imo can't wait to see how this list changes with time :D so please do another one later down the line! Wonderful list, seems about where I was when I started but I grew to live Mayuri and I was a fan old Grandpa, Genryūsai, Genocide. Also would be nice if you did this after every arc.

9:03 Mayuri will have a chance to show up in next few manga arcs. Especialy during battles vs Aizen's minions, but also later, where Mayuri shines (those, who have already read/watched TYBW, will get the joke)

Interesting list, understandable on most of them. I'm sure when you get further in some of them will move most of them up or down, because in the soul society arc most of them didn't get to shine.

my list after seeing all of bleach 1. Gin ichimaru - my fav as I loved soul society arc and he was like the mc of that arc in my eyes 2. shunsui (already liked him as a laid back, smart captain but *SPOILER* in TYBW he got higher in my list after becoming head captain and showing his cold blooded side 3. kenpachi 4. mayuri 5. unohana - very nice :) 6. aizen (debatable as (slight spoiler: I liked him a lot in TYBW but earlier not really)) 7. byakuya (alright character but IMO very boring abilities. shikai: petals, bankai: more petals, sometimes uses other abilities but I've forgot about them) 8. toshiro (same as byakuya but *spoiler* in adult form he was cool) 9. tosen (has drip and cool bankai) 10. yamamoto 11/12. komomura/ukitake - both not really memorable 13. soi fon - annoying, I love the thought of stealth squad but she isn't too stealthy, I would've loved it if the stealth squad weren't introduced quickly and were more mysterious. might be harsh but I wish she died to show the strength of the enemies kind of thing (also I clicked on this video thinking u were going to judge them off of strength which would be interesting to watch even if it does start arguments in the comments, I spoiled myself early on to see how strong they all are so I didn't get to judge them on my own like e.g *BIG SPOILERS* shunsui doesn't seem too strong in ss arc but turns out to be the strongest captain after yammas death. not including CFYOW kenny

...errrr...damn, I'm REALLY looking forwards to seeing how this list changes once you get to the Blood War arc.

10:08 Zaraki is a beast, and stays that way for whole series... but that doesn't mean we don't see development of him- in SS we see him mainly as beserker, who loves to fight... you shall see other sides of Zaraki personality, but all sum up to the point where he is a great warrior and commander(!)... lots of these captains get development in future arcs... we learn about their Shikai (like Kyoraku's and Ukitake's)/Bankai (almost every single captain is forced by Kubo, to show theirs) abilities... few of them have interesting backstories, as well :) Final though - don't underestimate Yamamoto... once old man gets into business, you'll know things are serious... he's one of my favorite Bleach characters- he doesn't show up to often and has more to do in anime fillers, than in manga, but whenever he shows up, it's EPIC

The thing about Old Man Yama is that he's so old and experienced that he can't act on his feelings. He's seen too much, made so many mistakes, corrected so many other mistakes, and probably killed so many old friends and students for justice that he's locked in to The Law. The man could have--and probably wanted to--stop the execution and defy Central 46 the whole time, but his Code and Oath held him to it. He's kinda like Abraham in the Bible. God tells him to kill his son, he'll do it, but the second God says "Whoa! Whoa! Okay! Don't do that!" he'll stop. He's very much a "if I act on my emotions and defy the law, my subordinates will, too" guy.

7:48 some time ago one of popular KZfaqrs made a popularity contest... Aizen scored #2, beating Main Character Ichigo Kurosaki, who ended on #3 spot ;) So yes, Aizen is definately well written villain :)

I do love Mayuri. He's got that queer coded Disney villain aura to him. It's immaculate, honestly.

you should remember that these characters are part of what is essentially a military organization... so yamamoto was actually pretty soft on the ones that went against their orders and soi fon is actually spot on in her actions taken.

About Yamamoto. He wasn't wrong during Soul Society though, he was lied to. If for example, it wasn't all Aizen plot, I'd say I'm siding with laws side. He is the head of military organization, no matter if they're his kids any high ranking officer of this caliber going south should be eliminated not reasoned with. With military organizations that are responsible for survival of the universe you can't just go and have your little personal justice acts. If you betrayed all of this because your personal morale how can anyone count on you to not betray them again?

Byakuya has some of the greatest growth in the entire series.

Gin was like my 2nd aizen my favourite and kenpachi my 3rd shunsui 4th and either yammato or komura 5th at this point in the story but if we dont count aizen mayuri is my favourite

buddy the thing that should stand out bout ukitake is his wisdom he shared with rukia which should intrigue like why is he saying that where did he learn that from. and also how caring he is about ppl esp his subordinates. calling the gorgeous n godly ukitake a package deal w that womanizer is wild.

Based top 3. In my case,swap 1st and 3rd, and would be the same. Toshiro Hitsugaya with Hyozimaru as his Zanpatou is my favorite Captain at this point in the series. The cool head, calm and collected demeanor, taking none of Aizen's shit at the end and going STRAIGHT to his Bankai, which has an awesome design. Kurotsuchi, everything you said. Sadly Kenny as a result of my love for Ice and Water based powers and circumstances winds up at number 3. Although it is nearly a 3 way tie. Really think you should do another ranking before the end. Each arc would be a good idea.

Yamamoto is definitely among my least liked Captains. He's too rigid and unforgiving. I like his powers and narrative purpose more than I like him as a person. Especially if we're just talking SS at this point.
