I don't go for a lot of reaction or rating videos but I'm glad I watched this. Insightful. I wouldn't be able to do it because I'd put them all in the top category! I have no objectivity when it comes to Rodney. Dude could do a left turn and I would think it was the greatest thing I ever saw.

Round 1 changed my life. Legit. I got it as soon as it came out and before that i was riding an 8.5 planet earth with 56mm wheels cause everybody I knew was riding wide boards and big wheels...on a recommendation from a friend, I bought this video and it literally changed everything for me, Forever. The next day I sold my board and bought some of the first A-team boards, Rodney Mullen Rabbit with the A logo and some 50mm world industries wheels. This was right before DarkStar wheels came out. Same year, with this set up, I improved faster than ever and I never looked back.

Awesome tier list! I am also a big fan of Rodney, and you forgot about ubf piece where he did switch flip one foot nose wheelie You can also find some unused footage of him in the video that was selling with his limited pro shoes, and in a video called Rodney Mullen timeline there's also some rare footage 15:15 he actually did it 4 times! You can find another angle in documentary "from the ground up" and another one he did in round 3 if I'm not mistaken! Love to watch your videos, keep it up!

As Rodney seems to be in other dimension for me (my favorite, but I just started this whole topic a few years ago) sometimes I think that maybe he have Asperger based on how deeply he can focus on the skateboarding

I agree with most of your rankings. My fav part would be second hand smoke. I still remember borrowing it from a buddy in the 8th grade. I was blown away by Rodneys part. The song flows perfectly with it as well. That part still gets me hyped

Enjoyed this video a lot. Weird that the reaction to Rodney's part in Questionable was so underwhelming at the time. I suspect this might not even have had to do with the skating so much as the out with the old (guys) mentality prevalent at the time in skateboarding. He definitely took it to a whole other level in the Almost videos, but those early Plan B videos were straight magic (especially with the Jim Groce song)

Round 2 at time is S tier. Round 2 is best blend of his creative ability, done with good street style Imo. In late 90s part was absolutely insane.

Love this idea, please do some other skaters, like Jerry Hsu, Chris Cole, and P-Rod just to name the ones I would love to see the most. TBH no matter who you rank, I’m watching it regardless so please make more of these😁

Nothing to be proud of, it was an act of spite, towards 80s skaters. You lot have a hide to be proud of what you all did to skating... pigeonholed it for 30 years. FINALLY its back. Skaters are shredding again, not just flat ground circus spins, but everything. It never should have went into that clicky hole that these guys all made. Its skatings worst era. At least Grosso fixed it before he moved on. What a legend. Now skating is better than its ever been. Early 90s was only Gonz. Everyone else who tried to be Mullen are gone and cant keep up.

i would watch the few skate videos i owned every day too. my friends would make fun of me for it, but i would also dub them to vhs and sell them to my friends, and after highschool i would sell bootleged dvd's to people in the community, i made alot of money doing that and its funny that dubing skate videos as a kid started my bootleging career.

Questionable and Virtual Reality will always be my favorites. He did a nollie back 3 front foot flip on a board with almost no nose over 30 years ago.

I like this idea, would love to see more rankings of pro's parts. Another idea could be if you ever thought a video had the parts in the wrong order and you thought somebody who may have had first or second to last part should have had the last part, or maybe somebody in the middle should have had first part or something like that.

Solid list. Rodney is the Goat! Rodney vs Daewon was my 1st time seeing Mullen street skate. Skateboarding fell off in 1992 and I quit as well, and he was still doing freestyle and stunt work in Gleaming the Cube

I think there was a one wheel spin in this Christian slater movie gleaming the cube. When he blows off some steam in an abandoned warehouse. Freestyle montage. Hi def 80s one wheel spin.

@@incapabledub i meant just regular freestyle run, not in a movie. i guess just freestyle competition footage that didn't end up in any video parts. i searched 'rodney mullen freestyle' and the first video had a one-wheel 360. rodney mullen - freestyle contest oceanside 1986. i believe i've seen several other examples over the years

Me and my friends in Arkansas pooled our money to order the Questionable Video on VHS and Rodney's part was well received at the time. Duffy was the mind blower for us and Colin and Danny were best overall imo.

why is it a helapop and not a nollie front 360? Is helapop another name for it (like fakie bs 360 -> fullcab) or is it a (dubious) different trick? I think if someone told me a nollie front 3 is actually a helapop I would ignore them, very 80s name :_)

This is interesting I totally get rating the video in terms of watchability however the rating system does not appear to take in the significance of the technical progression in relation to where skateboarding was at. While I agree that watchability is important I don't think the rating system is accurate. It's a fallacy to compare past video parts to present level skateboarding in terms of whether or not it's a good part. Just my two cents I'm trying to agreeably disagree.

Rodney is basically the core of the 30 year pigeonholed era. Flat ground circus tricks more akin to gymnastics or some sport like that. 30 years of skaters doing tiny circles around each other while mocking shaped decks, handplants, boneless, big air, grab rail, laybacks and all the BEST stuff. Doing flip tricks and box rails is really only 5% of skating. It was never that amazing. Im so glad skating has finally pulled itself out of that hole and is full of shredders like Winkowski, Jaime Mateu, Chris Russel, Andy Anderson, .. REAL skaters who can flip, spin, flat, transition, footplant and bust grab rails all day long. Remember when you lot started calling our style mongo? Haven't the tables turned now? Haha. I bet shaped decks are selling more than popsicles now. Certainly worth more, like it always should've been. It was terrible the way you lot treated us old school skaters early 90s. Shame on you all for that disrespect. If Grosso didnt snap everyone out of it with love letters, we would still be trapped with you lot going nowhere. 30+ years of the same boring stuff. Wow. Guess who are the mongo now? Flip trick crew. Everyone who loved Mullen. Isnt that funny. Mullen was ALWAYS just a gimmick. Gonz is the real skater, not Mullen. Gonz can STILL bust the best FS handplants. Flipping the deck was a side quest. Not the whole story.
