Totally agree that West Side Story and Dune are interchangeable for the top spot. Was so disappointed to see how poorly it was received by the public-both are artistic masterpieces. Loved Drive My Car too and Licorice Pizza was just a huge chaotic mess that had me grinning from ear to ear the whole time.

This is one of those years in which my personal favourites are probably not in the fight for the win, but that's ok. Power of the Dog and Coda are really good movies in my opinion, but there are some I just like much more. Nomadland was my favourite last year, so I'm fine with one year off. My personal winner would be one of these three: 1. Drive my Car 2. Dune 3. West Side Story

The Power of The Dog is really a masterpiece and really hope could still win Oscar Best Picture on Sunday.

This is the first time in a long time where at least all of the nominated movies were among the 21 best of the year... but I think it's just because there weren't a lot of great movies in the Oscar qualifying window of 2021. I watched most of them twice (I still need to rewatch CODA and Drive My Car... about king richard, formulaic was what I felt when I watched this as well. Leo is exceptional in DLU but I felt the movie was too long, like I don't really think the last scene with them on a new planet adds anything??

Honestly, I really don't like this line up in general. Nothing's exciting.

1. Drive My Car (an absolute masterpiece. I’m so glad this got nominated for Best Picture) 2. Licorice Pizza (PTA is the greatest and this film delivers so much of what he’s good at) 3. CODA (hits in the feels) 4. Power of the Dog (such an interesting slow-burn with an incredible ending) 5. Nightmare Alley (really liked this film, doesn’t deserve the hate it’s getting) 6. King Richard (There were a lot of great moments in the film, the entire thing may not have fit together perfectly but it’s enjoyable) 7. Don’t Look Up (Performances were decent and some of the comedy even hit, but it screams in your face too much and is pretty inconsistent in it’s direction) 8. I just can’t get behind Licorice pizza. I don’t think it’s very good. PTA has had much better films than this. A lot of scenes add nothing and whole sequences gave nothing and only made me want to skip it. The Sean Penn part, even the Bradley cooper part was dragged on and useless, and then the WHOLE politician stuff added nothing? I like some of PTAs films, but this shit was boring.

With a few exceptions, I found this year's Best Picture nominees quite disappointingly mediocre (or actively bad like the last two on my list). Last year's were much better in my opinion. 1. I don’t really understand why people like West Side Story, all of the relationships felt so fake, and the actual music and dancing didn’t impress me at all either. The cinematography is pretty great tho, but ya that movie is pretty bland in my opinion.
