i think ur (kinda) missing the point on the hurt cover; i could see the idea that people get caught up in the story of it and that's why it's so highly regarded beyond it's actual quality as a cover, but it's also not hard to see why, i don't think it's just because critics hype it up. i mean it's one of the greatest american singers ever at the absolute tail end of his career doing a deeply reflective cover of an otherwise dark, angry, misanthropic song. yeah they're both slow but cash transforms it to a more sombre, bittersweet song so naturally, and his old man voice helps sell it so well. he takes a song initially about a deeply broken man committing suicide and puts it in the shoes of an old man at the natural end of his life (which he was in real life) it's really great hearing rick rubin talking about why he did the whole american recordings thing with cash, and i do really think the context of his late career revival makes the cover better. just how, in the last ten years of his career, he went from a deeply washed-up, irrelevant legacy singer to deeply respected in the eyes of the new generation and more critically successful than ever by just.. singing old songs he loved, ones he wrote, and newer ones rubin presented to him (like hurt, but also "the mercy seat" or "i see a darkness", two covers i think are nearly as good), in a really pure, raw way. i think hurt was the most beautiful way to cap that off, and it's crazy to think about what it would've been like if he never got that chance

When I saw Bowie on the front cover I was actually surprised you went with his God Only Knows cover! His cover of Let’s Spend the Night Together from Aladdin Sane is very respectable imo, but I agree with you on God Only Knows it’s not great. I also remember reading that there is a cover on MWStW or Hunky Dory buuuuuut I do not remember, might’ve been Fill Your Heart, regardless he’s an artist with many covers. Also I very much recommend the Cranberries cover of They Long to be Close to You. It’s on the complete sessions for No Need to Argue and I think it’s fantastic!

very fun list. and i agree im not huge into the red hot chilli peppers but their cover was solid. wow i never knew Train covered Led Zeplin II thats crazy but from the sample shown it did not sound bad so kudos to them. one band that has done some covers albums that i really like is Axel Rudi Pell. their cover of warrior original from Riot is a really cool one and their cover of like a child again originally from the mission i like better then the original its a very nice soft ballad track. also another interesting group that does covers is Vitamin String Quartet. they will turn many variety of different genres into instrumental classical music and a lot of it is very cool they even did through the fire and the flames from dragonforce which was insane

I was also one of the assholes that was complaining that you ranked The Who as a B tier classic rock band. But I gotta say I just cannot agree that Limp Bizkit’s Cover is better than the original the original recording and Roger Daltrey is the vocals are the definitive version and nothing will ever change that. And personally I can’t stand Limp Bizkit they do have a few songs I do enjoy but overall I can’t stand them or Fred Durst but I will say it is a good cover and it is incredibly sincere and faithful to the original.

"No one knows what it's like to be the Batman." BTW, Rollin is my favorite Limp Bizkit song) In terms of Beatles covers, one of my favorites is Sarah MacClachlan's version of Blackbird. It's so so beautiful when she does that song. But Helter, Skelter, The Beatles went full on heavy metal because Paul McCartney wanted to outshine the Who. Fortunate Son by CCR is one of my favorite anti-war songs. But in terms of U2, the 80s was them at their best. They lose me at Vertigo. But yeah, I love Fortunate Son, the CCR version better. I love RHCP, but Stevie Wonder does Higher Ground so much better. But, what's wrong with RHCP? I love them. I love Californication, I love Dani California, I love Under the Bridge, and a lot of their music. These Boots Are Made for Walkin'-That's all Nancy Sinatra. No one can outperform her in that song. Smooth Criminal-AAF (One of my least favorite covers of all time. You can't just take an amazing Michael Jackson song and heavy metalize it! I agree on F tier.) If there's one song I know Sheryl Crow does a great cover of it's The First Cut is the Deepest, but Rod Stewart does it better. And yeah, one can do Sweet Child O'Mine better than Guns N Roses I love Led Zeppelin so so much, I don't think Tool does a great version of No Quarter. I love Train, but still no one can do Led Zeppelin covers better I'm not a big fan of Weezer's cover songs, though their version of Africa is alright. I love Taylor Swift, but leave that song to Earth Wind and Fire. No one can do that song better than John Denver Tainted Love-Soft Cell rocks on that song, but Where Did Our Love Go, that's all Supremes. I Love Rock N Roll-Joan Jett rocks, but another song that was actually a cover is Cum On Feel the Noize, which was originally by Slade Aerosmith's version is pretty good, but leave it to the Beatles. The U2 cover of Everlasting Love is very good, and I’m not a U2 fan, but I am an Everlasting Love fan. Also Muse’s Feeling Good is a personal top 5 for me.
