In terms of musicianship, taste and overall tightness and professionalism of their sound, their best lineup consisted of Eric Singer on drums and Bruce Kulick on lead guitar. They had the chops, but they had the restraint too to realize what was important for the song, and they wrote / performed some great material.

I totally agree about Vinnie - He is a "mindless shredder". My personal favourite lineup is Carr-Culick - all my favourite albums - I'm a big fan of 80-s "Gllam Metal". If I would rate them, off course the classic one would be the first, but Carr/Culick would be close second!

There was a Kiss Story that happend this year but everytime I've forgot to tell you: Somewhen this year I've checked ebay for Sonic Boom LP's....because I want to have every Kiss Album as an Vinyl, but Sonic Boom is pretty Rare. Especially in Europe. Most times those are sold at around 200€....but I've found one fucker that sold me the Red Vinyl for only 25€....lol. 3 or 4 weeks later I've went to an Vinyl exchange. (those happen pretty often in Germany...its basiclly like a flea marked but only with vinyls)....and what did I saw there? The Sonic Boom LP in Blue Vinyl. And this fucker sold it for only 20€....I was like "wtf is happening in my life?"...and of cause I've bought that too and gifted it to my best friend. Sometimes pretty weird stuff is happening in life.

they did play other non make up songs. crazy, crazy nights and tears are falling are the only other they played live with make up. heaven on fire and lick it up was played with the original line up I believe during the psycho circus tour or the farewell tour but they expanded it bit when Eric and Tommy was in the group.

What a wonderful and conscientious video. My ranking is a bit different although I agree with everything you've said. I don't acknowledge the last line up and am a big fan of the eric ace gene paul line up based on the heavy sound seen on the Australian tour bootleg. Also I love the revenge line up. They would be my top 3 followed by the lick it up line up then 1985 to 1989 line up. I rate the mark st john line up last.

Bruce was a classy guy. I never heard any one (like Ace or Peter) say anything bad about Bruce. Tommy was in an impossible situation no matter what he did and is extremely talented. Vinnie was no Joe Satriani and was too much of an a-hole. I don't think Ace would have stayed on even if he had played on Creatures. He wanted out and his own addiction issues were wearing thin on Gene & Paul. It would have been interesting to see Eddie Van Halen in the band. He once begged Gene to be in the band when Van Halen was having issues with Diamond dave Roth. Slash was another one who audtioned back before Guns and would have been interesting to see with KISS.

Very well said. I agree with 90% completely. Although I feel you were a little hard on Vinnie. I'm aware he's completely insane 😀 2000 was my last kiss show. I personally wouldn't pay anything to see Tommy in the band (and I haven't) Regardless of the Ace makeup. Which of course I don't agree with whatsoever. I don't like Tommy as a musician. His playing seems very stilted and stiff to me. Regardless of if most of the notes are correct he plays. Thanks for the video and the opinions! We don't completely agree but I certainly can't argue with your logic 👍

The best line up and the only one that matters is the original line up which made the classic "KISS" albums. Every other line up was just a altered variation of "KISS" where in my opinion replacing band members alters the chemistry therefore making it a different band altogether & imo it was no longer "KISS" regardless if they kept the name. If anything it became a tribute band. Without the "KISS" name Gene & Paul would've been unemployed from 1982 to 1996. If you want to know who & what Gene & Paul were without Ace & Peter just listen to songs from thetre "Wicked Lester" days.

First cool video idea Dan The Man. So Dave I agree with you and have no problem with your ranking at all. Loved your analogy of Vinnie Vincent for sure. Now while I don’t have the “hate”you do with Sonic Boom, and Monster. For me Sonic is ok but Monster is quite good. I even like quite a bit Tommy’s songs on both albums. Don’t like either of Eric’s tho. Sounded like he was trying to be Bob Seger. Who I actually like but not on a KISS album. My only problem with your rant shall we say is that the Rock The Nation Tour (when Paul still could sing) was so good. The band sounded great (although you wouldn’t know it from that crappy off the soundboard release) but the show was great and they did songs that never were played with ANY other lineup. So because of that I’m glad they continued. Tho as we know that was pretty much the last time they sounded good 😞 At the time you could go online and they had ALL of the shows available to purchase. I liked those so much I bought 4 others besides the St. Louis show I was at. Including the KC show because your show they did Tears Are Falling. They mixed up the sets so I tried to buy so I got a copy of all the “odd” songs you rarely if ever heard

The last lineup with Tom Foolery and Cheater Criss was by far the worst. I saw it once in 2010 and I wish I could totally erase the memory from my brain!!!

I agree whole heartedly with the Revenge line up being number two... It's definitely my favorite non-make up album, followed by Lick it up. Also, This was probably the best live line up musically speaking... The first time I saw Kiss was on the Revenge tour, and I'm almost ashamed to admit, it was my favorite Kiss show I ever saw, even over the 96 reunion tour, which was my second favorite Kiss show I saw. Hell, I'd even go as far as to say Revenge was better than about half the Make up era albums.

I would’ve placed the lineup of Paul, Gene, Eric Singer, Bruce Kulick at number one BECAUSE they could play all eras of KISS and not miss a beat. KISS was a better band without the makeup.

I think that Tommy plays as ace, not that he looks like ace, that they have him playing in Ace's style, A fellow Kiss nut at church (yes, at church, lol) stated that Tommy does a better Ace than Ace does...what ???? I've seen people say, "i can play this, or I can play that." I think thats fantastic, but can you write like this or write like that, and be an icon per your style? Thats the key, that I think is overlooked. Bruce Kulick got a raw deal, he should have been brought back as Ace when Ace left, but he had his own style, I don't think Gene and Paul wanted that, they wanted an Ace impersonator. Tommy in Black N Blue is not a an Ace impersonator, he has his own style. IMO...

Great categories and channel. The best lineup for me, although short lived, was Ace, Eric Carr Paul and Gene. As we all know, finally, is Anton Fig played on all but 1 Dynasty track. Has anyone else wondered - What the dynamic of KISS would have been had Anton joined permanently after Peter? 🤯🤯🤯🤯🥴🤔🤔🤔🙄😱 I absolutely wish that Modern Day Delilah, off Sonic Boom, would have been included on the tour. To me that is the shining moment for Tommy. His solo on that is phenomenal and it is shameful that KISS excluded it for Say Yeah. That song is as boring as f---😮. I agree. I rewatch the video of the massive show the group did in Rio. One of the first tours Vinnie did. He attempted to play the solo from the clinic Calling Dr. Love. He absolutely butchered it and had this weird ass contorted look on his face like he was playing the greatest solo on the planet. 😮😅😢

asylum was a strong album. i always cringe when i hear it lumped in with crazy nights and hot in the shade. good evaluation here. but the bruce, eric (carr), gene, & paul lineup would have been in the #2 slot in my ranking.

No offense but early Kiss had Bob Kulick on recordings where Ace couldn’t or wouldn’t perform! Secondly Ace and we love him is not Ace of 1977, so Tommy is doing his best to honor him right now and Ace is friends with him. Thirdly you are right Paul’s voice is shredded but he in the last two years has put on great shows for the money. Also, Rock and Roll over and Destroyer are their peak as a band. Ace’s first solo album is his BEST ALBUM also because of Eddie Kramer!

Vinnie saved a failing KISS! give him some props! When Vinnie left so did the success! thus the reunion tour 1996.

How can you consider the Mark St. John lineup as superior to Tommy and Eric? Madness. And you clearly haven't been paying close attention to the live sets over the years. Tommy and Eric have played Hide Your Heart, God Gave Rock N' Roll To You, Unholy, even All American Man. Not to speak of the gems they busted out on all the Kruises. Listen to official soundboard recordings they put out the past few years from 1984 and 2004 and you tell me who's better then.

Did know that Vinnie played and toured with and sang with Felix Cavaliere of the Young Rascals and Dan Hartman of the Edgar Winter Group and wrote songs for a ton of signed bands? I get it! he's an asshole. Vinnie is a true talent. Don't be dis tasteful! because please allow me....

Got to agree with most of this. I feel Vinnie was a better fit as a songwriter with KISS than as an active member. I never thought he looked the part & his style was all shred. I adore Eric Carr & wish that he & Ace had a longer time together. Revenge along with Creatures of the Night are the only 2 albums that come close to anything & might even surpass the albums made by the original line-up.

KISS was done after they put out a disco song. Everything after eventually turned into a 90's throwback glam band. They shoulda toned down the costumes, with the make up fading until they eventually became human. But that would've required Ace and Peter keeping it together, which they obviously didn't do. That 1975 photo is the one and only KISS with the exception of Eric Carr. He was the only legitimate replacement.

The best KISS line up will always be the original four when their music had balls. The first seven albums and Creatures were all quality albums but it started to go all downhill from there.

Your lack of appreciation for Vinnie’s contributions to KISS is ridiculous. Vinnie saved Chaim and Stanley’s ass. You believe Chaim’s and Stanley’s lies about Vinnie and Ace and Peter and Mark and Eric but even you had to admit that in the last 15 years they ( Gene & Paul) have cheated the fans. Your lack of consistency damages your credibility. It’s obvious you just hate Vinnie because you’ve swallowed all of the lies about him. They have made personal attacks on the others too but according to these two schmucks, they are perfect and never do anything wrong. I disagree. I didn't and still don't like any album after Lick It Up until Revenge. I actually like Sonic Turd and Monster better than those mid to late 80s albums. But Bruce's live playing is better than everyone except Ace.
